What increases your security is being smart in your browsing habits. I agree with this sentiment largely. I do have cookies globally disabled, but I have a firefox add on to quickly and easily allow cookies for a specific domain permanently or for a session. Any site I use semi-regularly I allow in, any site that I stray too tht needs cookies I let in for the session. I have this setup because I have a habit of drifting a bit on the web and end up with a ton of basic tracking cookies, whihc makes my virus scans take yonks. And because it works well for me. I tweaked a lot of bits n bobs on my pc to make it perform better, but 1 side effect (that i culdnt track down) was insane amounts of fragmentation happening on cookies that were over a week or 2 old (eg sites i hardly visit) that was causing lag. 1) How in the hell do you "agree with this sentiment largely" when you're saying the exact opposite of what I am? 2) As for the last paragraph of your post... thinking back on the DDOS thread, I'm just not going to say anything and will bang my head against the wall instead, to save Tip.It's disk space and its administration headaches.

You are both correct. A simple way to tell which is lagging: if the screen is FROZEN, your CPU/GPU is lagging. If nothing is moving but you can still see the animations moving and such (like your character 'vibrating' slowly or whatever you want to call it), it's network lag.

Try playing a few different videos on Windows Media Player. If the same thing occurs, it's a problem with your computer and will need further investigation (unlikely). If the same thing does not occur, it's a problem with that particular video and there's not much you can do about it, unless you want to rotate your entire computer screen 180 degrees (some video card drivers allow this).

This is good. I don't care if people use IE, as long as they use the latest one. Microsoft is working on the standards support, give them credit. Although IE isn't currently at a respectable level of web standards compliance and support, future versions will improve on this. The only thing that matters with a browser is what score it gets on the Acid tests, in my opinion. :) That is why Opera 10 owns you all. 100% perfection. Microsoft hasn't put much thought into the programs that come with the operating system in the past, although they are starting to change this. Look at Paint, Calculator and IE on Windows XP. They are not very good programs. Now look at them on Windows 7. Paint has slightly improved (they really should REPLACE it with Paint.NET and hire the guy who writes it), Calculator has taken an incredible jump, and IE8 is much better than IE6. If you notice the products that Microsoft *doesn't* include with the OS and sells separately, like Visual Studio and Office, those excel and are quite good. Microsoft focuses most of its resources into designing frameworks - basically providing YOU the tools to make good programs, rather than making the programs themselves. This philosophy works quite well, and is one of the main reasons Microsoft is so successful - developers, developers, developers! Anyone who hates Microsoft is immature and I can tell you that a lot of Apple users only use Macs because they think it makes them hip and cool. And anyone who has the audacity to call me a Microsoft fan-boy is also immature. Microsoft is a great company, and I recognize that, but I recognize their faults too. No company is perfect, Microsoft included, but you cannot deny the positive things that do come out of the company.

By the way, you don't call it "memory", you call it "space". Memory is something entirely different. Memory is a circuit-based volatile short-term storage mechanism which loses all its data when you turn off your computer. Hard drives are a magnetic-based persistent long-term storage mechanism which does not lose its data without power and is very reliable. Hard drives store all your data, memory stores all the data your computer is currently using to run all your programs, and any unsaved work. Although memory can really be thought of as merely a performance optimization for hard drives when we get into virtual memory and page files and all that... well, we won't. ;)

People have other things they'd rather do then find out about that until it becomes relevant. Well, it's one of the most misconceived facts in the RuneScape community...

Killing explorer[Caution: Executable File] fixes similar problems on XP. :P Let's hope Windows 7 doesn't have these sorts of issues.

You won't lag any more on HD than you would on SD. All the data for the HD graphics is cached (stored) on your computer, there is no extra network activity involved with HD versus SD. I really can't fathom that this isn't common knowledge.

Chrome is useless, it has no unique features and we already have enough web browsers.
