. Guide to Efficiency Some notes before the bulk of the guide: 1: This guide has no pictures. Everything is self-explanatory. No hide tags either. 2: I will try to be as unbiased as possible. 3: This guide is focused on the most money/exp. You might not be after money, but money buys everything. Plus it will give you an idea of what you need to do. 4: A lot of examples are given. Be smart. Figure it out. Table of Contents: 1. Introduction 2. What is efficiency? 3. What is self sufficient 4. Some common mistakes 1. Introduction You are probably in this guide to find out what is mathematically the most efficient way to do something. Weather it is making money, skills, or both, you will find this in this guide. Some of this stuff may seem like common sense, but most people need reminding. 2: What is efficiency? The definition is competency in performance. The most effective way of doing something. In the guide, we are focusing on the most money and EXP. The first step in understanding efficiency is the saying time is money. Time is the BIGGEST factor in efficiency. Another is your level in skills, money, and combat level/stats. Another thing you must overcome is to ALLOW spending. Sometimes, you will make back even more money. Something that is efficient for one person MAY not be efficient for everybody. It depends on the account. Thanks for the formula. Easier to understand then mine. THE THREE FACTORS OF EFFICIENCY ARE :::TIME:::INCOME:::STATS::: A simple example: You are a lvl 133. You decide to get a nice cool house, you have hundreds of millions, and a very reliable money source. To get 99 construction, the person can either a) chop trees, turn into planks, build larders to 99 B) buy logs, turn into planks, build larders to 99 c) buy planks, build larders to 99. The answer here is c, buy the planks an build larders. Why? Well, in the time you save from a or b, you could have made even more money in that time. It would have taken MUCH more time chopping and planking yourself even though you saved money. Remember, you are a lvl 133. You have a very high money source. Another example: You are a level 25. You are f2p, and are just starting out, with not much income. You want some food to train with. After calculating the most efficient food, you decide to go for salmon. You can either a) fish and cook B) buy fish and cook In this example, the answer is a, fish and cook. Sure, you would save time buying the fish, but you will spend more money then the money you could have made with the time saved. This way, you get more exp and save more cash. 3: What is self sufficient Self-sufficiency is just what it sounds like. Being completely self-sufficient. Someone who is self-sufficient would do EVERYTHING for themselves, and not spending any money. Now, this sounds like a good idea. You are making money and not spending. obviously the way to goright? WRONG. Look at the first example. You are making money, and saving money, but you use more of TIME. Time=Money. In the time you wasted, you could have made more money. Example #1 You are a lvl 91 Rcer. SAY you can mine 1k pure essence a hour. SAY you can craft 1k nature runes a hour. SAY the price of Natures:300 P Ess: 100 Would you: a) Mine ess, craft natures B) Buy ess, craft natures The answer is b, buy the ess and craft natures. Why? Ess is worth less than nature runes. So every hour, you spend 1k*(price of pure essence). For the natures you craft, subtract the cost of pure essence from them. You still make a profit! And one thats bigger than the price of pure essence. Doing this, in two hours, you would make 400k. You make 600k worth of natures, but spend 200k worth of pure essence. Now, what if you mined and then crafted: In two hours, you would make 300k. But wait! Why not 400k. You mined the ess yourself. That is 100k right there!! Wrong. You USED the essence to make the nature runes. They are gone. So by mining, you get half the RC experience, and make less money. You be the judge. So is self-sufficiency stupid and useless? No. Say you wanted to get 99 fletch and prove you are a no-lifer. You could either a) cut logs, pick flax, spin flax, make bows, string bows B) buy logs, pick lax, spin flax, make bows, string bws c) buy log, buy flax, spin flax, make bows, string bows d) buy logs, buy bow string, make bows, string bows Because you loose money(logs are worth more than bows), you might not have enough money to buy the logs, and cannot make much money. IF you cant make more money normally then the time it takes to gather all the supplies, then go right ahead. In this case, get some of all of the materials yourself. Calculate what you can and cannot afford depending on your income. 4: Common mistakes There are many mistakes people can make while calculating efficiency. Here are just a few. 1: Math error. Did you multiply, divide, add, subtract, or something wrong? Be SURE to double check. It could hurt you in the future. A calculator to check helps. 2: Deciding your income could be a hard thing. You might make 400k an hour, then make 100k the next. You must find the average. Average is total profit/ total time. Consider if what you are doing can be kept up CONSTANTLY. You cant be constantly at Arma getting hilts every hour. 3: Prices. Prices WILL fluctuate. Always check them, as something efficient to you one day might not be the next. Be especially careful to those near your efficiency line. 4: Demand and production. If you are buying something, make sure you can easily buy it. Dont calculate something at middle price then find out you can only buy it at max. For cheaper items, go to the Grand Exchange, and put a offer in at minimum, middle, and max. See how long it takes to get the buy. That should tell you about how much you should estimate it to be. 5: Grand Exchange. Having an offer in the in game queue to buy is good. When an offer is posted, you will be ahead. Buy items a few percent of GP ahead of what you are buying at. A single GP could be the difference between getting it instantly and a week later. 6: Buyablility. Can you buy that item at middle or less GE prices? Don't spent 10 min calculating then realize you have to buy at max. Buy a couple(1-3) and see if you can actually buy at the price you think. That is all I can think of at the moment. Pease leave CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I probably need it. Pointing out mistakes helps as well. If you want to talk to me, PM me in game pantim. My PM is usually on. I also AM a nerd who plays chess, so dont be surprised to see that as my world. I kindly ask you NOT to PM me if I am playing chess. I will not answer, as I am concentrating on the game. Any flame will be reported.[/size] BTW: If you are using terrorbird, and want to use a scroll while running, click the button to activate the scroll, THEN click on "call pet". Guarenteed to work unless the bird gets trapped or you are too slow. Kinda off topic, but I am bothered by the people that have to stop, call pet, and scroll.
