Since I think you're quoting me I shall try to explain and answer your questions. The top clans did sign up mostly (my guess you would have to ask them to be sure) to continue their rivalries and get a chance to one up each other. They probably don't believe many other people can compete with them but that's what makes it fun, you never know what will happen. I expect this to be a lot of fun, pretty sure this is one of the largest tournaments ever (maybe the largest excluding the Jagex Cup but I am probably bias #). Who wins, well that's up to fortune and fate now isn't it? :)

Sounds kind of... plastic to me. More like a half hearted attempt rather than any real sort of effort. People have been going on for the longest time what they want not sure what this is other than a publicity stunt.

I remember when display names were first released many people posted saying this would be a "NH tactic" now many clans are shifting toward this. This is really more effective the more people you have, ie. when a clan with 100+ people does it vs 10 people doing it.

Flaming, I've had quite a colorful shall we say history in my time with WG. :P I would change it from the flaming to a respect for the dedication and loyalty and that I flame because I lack the words to convey my meaning any other way.

CWA rivalries in my experience can sometimes be even more heated as the only thing at stake is reputation and the "well we gained more than you did" is lost. In PVP, it's a matter of who has lost more pixels and either loses or attains a moral victory depending on the situation.
