  1. Snow leopard won't work, but leopard will? Yes, though I didn't read into it enough to find out why.
  2. GIMP for Snow Leopard will not work with Lion, download the Leopard version and use that instead.
  3. My dad does that all the time, he puts it on lightly enough to activate the lights but without putting pressure on the disc. Good fun is had by all who aren't tailgating. I hope you don't mean he drives around with his left foot on the breake as a full time thing. That is super [bleep]ing annoying to drive behind, no matter how far back you are. It also means if you ever do actually hit the breaks, the person behind you is going to ram you even if they were like 100m back because they can't see your brake lights change. This. Tapping your brakes is fine by me, but riding on them is stupid and dangerous.
  4. Yep, passed two cars upside down on the way home today. If the snow keeps up, I'm looking forward to taking my car up the mountain to go skiing on Friday. :D
  5. Agree with this. I've been driving for just over two years now, and just got my own car (2000 Subaru Legacy) a month ago. The only scary experience I've had was in that car the first time it snowed this year; I was still on well-worn summer tires (not even all-seasons), so I expected the hill I live on to be a bit slick going down... but dear god I nearly went off twice. First one going around a downhill blind corner, the back started to come around and I was doing the whole correct-straight-correct-straight thing all the way into the other lane, lucky there was no car. Then when I got to the bottom, the car of course wouldn't stop, so I used engine braking (new idea at the time, only been driving stick for two days) to get it stopped. I'm quite certain that if I was in a automatic the car wouldn't have stopped. Now I have a nice set of studded tires, boy does that make a difference. Either way I still love driving in the snow, the studded tires allow a little fun without it being dangerous like it was with the summer tires.
  6. And depending on what you use Photoshop for, Photoshop Elements (~$70) would also work.
  7. This has been a long time coming... it's been such a long time since I saw the images, very nice to actually see it up and working. A huge congratulations and thank you to all involved.

    Cars

Just got my first car: 2000 Subaru Legacy L Wagon, 5 speed manual. Certainly not my first choice, but considering how difficult it is to find a half decent low mileage used Subaru here... it's wonderful.
  9. So for those of you who are anti-piracy, what do you think about this situation: Someone wants to buy a 10 year old computer game, but the company that made it went out of business and the only way to buy it now is secondhand. Because the game is still popular, it's value has almost tripled from it's original cost. Is it "ok" to download (pirate?) the game, because the company wouldn't be getting your money anyway? Or should that person spend $80+ to buy the game from some random guy on the internet? Regarding DRM: What do you think about activation only versus full-blown DRM? (for those of you who are anti-DRM)
  10. I don't get why people keep saying this. It's not like he took Apple down with him, and he resigned from being the CEO a couple of months ago. Jobs had a level of personal involvement in each product released by Apple in a way that no other CEO of a large company ever has. We'll see how much his input really meant to Apple's products in a couple of years I suspect... until then, each new product likely will have had his input on some level.
  11. If specs were everything, I wouldn't be using my Mac right now. Specs are not everything, as you said. Brand also has something to do. If you had a Dell or emachines, it's normal that you're having better experience with a Mac, but if you had an Asus, you'd regret buying a mac. I buy a Mac 25% for the hardware+computer, 75% for the OS. I love my homebuilt computer- it's fast, cheap, and easy to upgrade. But it can't (legally) run OSX. ------------------------------------------------------------- The base MBP that you're looking at will serve your sister fine.
  12. If specs were everything, I wouldn't be using my Mac right now.
  13. It should probably be noted that there is a new mobile skin in the next version of IPB- I don't believe it has a report function, but you might want to hold off on any additions until you update to the new version of IPB.
  14. Damn this sucks bad. Much less Tip.it for me now I guess. :(
  15. "That looks neat" is certainly a great place to start. But then you have to look at this neat thing from many angles and directions. (would that sunrise look better if I put that tree in front of it?) Think about what your subject would look like under different lighting conditions. (direct sun, shade, flash). That will also lead you to think about time of day, which is when photography really gets fun. (I need to be there at 6am to get the lighting right) Have fun and don't be afraid to experiment!
  16. Protip: if you don't want comments on an already posted photo, remove it.
  17. Stuck with Leopard until I get a new MBP in a year. :(
  18. I started with Safari when it came out (Netscape before that) so I've just stuck with it- it may crash a little more or be a tad slower, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for what I think is a better user experience. Try a few browsers for a week and see which you like best. Yes, give it a try. You will be able to buy it very soon for $30 from the Mac App Store (should be an application on your computer I think). I'd recommend waiting a couple minor versions (10.7.1, 10.7.2) before buying to let some bugs get sorted out.
  19. Holy. That's easily one of my favorite pictures ever.
  20. I've played trumpet for 6 years in concert band, jazz band, and pep band. Next year I'll be leading my school's pep band, which I'm really excited for. I approach my playing with the goal to go out on stage and put on a good show, because that's what I get enjoyment from. It means a little less practice time, but the other trumpet players in my section are really good about understanding when we need to have an extra sectional to get something down, and it seems easier to keep them motivated with that goal. The way my schedule is looking for next year I think I'll have to end up choosing between jazz band and wind ensemble, which really sucks. I'm leaning towards jazz band but I think scheduling may end up choosing for me. :(
  21. I have a Nikon Coolpix S6000 (point and shoot). It's turning out to be a great camera for only $150.
  22. I followed this guy around for a few minutes, tearing up my knees and nearly whacking my camera on a rock a couple of times. I really wish it would have been sunny to bring out the colors better, but oh well. Comments/suggestions please! :)
