Your local public school budgets are being cut
Then I ask again: how do you keep track of how well a teacher teaches in comparison to their coworkers?

Your local public school budgets are being cut
How do we monitor how well a teacher teaches? Cut athletics or field trips, support the arts. This depends largely on the school of course; some are very strong in one area and very weak in others.

TIF is bit over-moderated
It's not at all the same. E-mails are generally private between just a couple people, while forums are very public.

Get the new Firefox 4 today
^ This. I've been working with both HTML 5, and CSS 3. So far only Firefox supports them. Maybe Safari does too now, but I'm not sure. I believe Safari was actually the first major browser to support HTML 5.

Revision of Policy
Is it just me, or do these statements seem to conflict each other? I was told from an Admin that some trolling is acceptable when it's appropriate, and now I'm being told from a Mod that no trolling is allowed. Just my opinion, but I think you guys should discuss it between yourselves, before telling the public multiple different things. It's just you.

Real life pictures - 4
Have any side effects from it? I had horrible acne and it killed it pretty well, however it didn't really treat the rest of my skin too well. At one point it gave me Dermatographic urticaria, which still comes back very slightly every now and then (not bad enough to need medicine anymore). While taking it my skin was so dry my lips were cracked throughout the whole treatment. It was pretty bad, in the end though all that was temporary. I just finished about 3 months ago, it worked wonderfully and I very rarely have any on my face. I am noticing a lot more on my scalp than I used to have, which is a little odd. No other side effects post-treatment though. It can be a very difficult treatment, especially if you live in a dry climate, but it is absolutely worth it, as far as I'm concerned.

Mac or PC?
But you still end up paying double the money you need to... Exactly. I look at it this way, I could not live without my Mac, and life without my windows computer would be much more expensive.

Starting over with my Macbook
Yep, that "small external disk" was just big enough to hold my entire hard drive. Thanks for the reminder, it would not be fun to forget to back something up and then find out you needed it after you deleted it.

I'm not sure reformatting will do much apart from save a couple gigs, and give you a headache. And eww, x-plane on windows :P FSX all the way, and MS Fly or whatever it's called looks promising, too. 100GB is rather a lot, I thought the 40GB I had in my FSX folder was a lot o.O The idea behind reformatting would be to delete everything, then only put the files I absolutely need back on my computer. Much easier than going through and trying to delete everything I don't use. The X-Plane default install is 70GB, the rest is made of of planes and custom scenery.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the OS X install process, but I do have a few suggestions for freeing disk space. Running Disk Inventory X or similar may be worthwhile if you haven't already. It might save some time tracking down large (sets of) files you might have missed. I assume you've been through the trash, but are you keeping backup archives which could be removed? I've used programs like DIX before (Daisy Disk) before. DIX tells me I have 7.3GB of plain text, 7.1GB of documents, and 6.6GB of "iTunes documents" when my music folder is only 3.1GB. It's stuff like that that I'd be trying to clean, I guess. 3.1GB of iPhone backups. I'll only have this computer another year and a half or so, I don't want to invest any more in it. So I just did the math: 2GB of pictures, 3GB of music, 7GB flightsim installation, and 6GB of other files. System info says I should have 55GB of useable space (I assume this is with the OS installed) but I really only have less than 20GB of stuff that I'd save. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136391 $40 If you aren't geting another laptop, you could use it in a desktop, or even in a laptop with 2 harddrive bays. Out of curiosity, what FS are you running? I assume x-plane, seeing as FSX won't run on OSX..? Ok, $40 is awful convincing. Will seriously consider that, but I'd still like to do a reformat beforehand. Yeah, X-Plane. I keep a small install on my Mac for testing and repaints, and the full 100GB+ install on my Windows machine.

Awards
Having an AOW award would also (theoretically) encourage users to make more good guides. Something that I've seen happen on other forums is when a person gets lots of these awards, their post space is stretched out taller than it needs to be because so much information is in that box on the left-side of the page. Looking at Dan's post above this, for example, his profile information is already stretching his post out more than his signature. If he was to have a line or two of these awards, it could be stretched out significantly.

The problem is that I've basically done that, but I'm still stuck with a full hard drive even when I only have ~20GB of files I need to keep. As I see it, starting over would be the simplest way to get rid of the stuff I don't really want to take the time to find and delete.

Starting over with my Macbook
Specs: 1st Gen Macbook (late 2006) Mac OSX 10.5.8 Intel Core Duo 2GHz 64 GB Hard drive 2 GB RAM Intel GMA 950 64 MB VRAM Simply put, I'm out of space on it's hard drive. I haven't had more than 5GB of empty space for over a year, and I've at less than 2GB for about 4 months. While an external drive is on my list, I'd also like to try and regain some of the space on the computer's drive. I've deleted just about everything I can, so I figure reformatting (or whatever the process is called) would be a good option. Basically I'd like back up my pictures, documents, and music to a small external drive I have now, wipe the computer's hard drive, and re-install using the OSX 10.5 disks I have. Have any Mac users here done that or something similar, or have a guide outlining the process? Any possible issues that may arise? Thanks. :)

What do you call these images?
The roundabouts are something I very clearly remember from the two times I've stayed in Carmel- we only have one here and it's only a few years old. There was a section in the newspaper for a couple months after its construction showing how to use it. Quite funny.

Laptop Problem
Completely false. If you have an older computer, it is good to restart it once in a while to clear the memory though. Right, but that has nothing to do with the longevity of the computer. According to iStat, I haven't shutdown in 22 days; everything works fine. It depends on a lot of things, but 22 days is nothing at all, with any OS. He was talking about the number of year/months the computer will work, not days. I know. Having your computer sleep for 6+ hours a day isn't going to slowly kill it. Exactly. I let mine sleep 8 hours+ twice daily, with a full restart monthly, for the past 4 years and it hasn't had anything go wrong.

Syncing multiple (4) iPhones to one iTunes account
One month follow-up: everything works perfectly. As we're all on separate computers, iTunes continues to act like we're using three different accounts, and we've had no issues with contacts, apps, music, etc. If I want to use an app my brother bought on his computer, I just get him to e-mail it to me, then I can use it too. Thanks everyone.

Frosty Hemlock
Autofocus is a bit tricky on the camera, trying to get it to focus where you want it to. Regardless, the frost was where I wanted the focus, but I was also surprised by how blurry the bud was. Would this have anything to do with holding the camera father away from the subject and zooming in slightly compared to getting really close and using no zoom? No manual mode. Decided to go for a cheaper ($150USD) camera and see if my photography hobby continues to develop, then go DSLR at a later point. Not in a situation to spend the kind of money I'd want to spend to do it right. Thanks guys, much appreciated as always.

Frosty Hemlock
I got a Nikon Coolpix S6000 for Christmas, which while not a DSLR, is still a large step forward from my old Olympus Camedia C-3020. So far I've only taken it out around the yard, so no long-range pictures... but I did discover a nice macro mode: Looking specifically for comments on composition, color, use of the rule of thirds, sharpness, and focus point... though of course anything else would be wonderful. :)

Syncing multiple (4) iPhones to one iTunes account
So the whole family just got new iPhones for Christmas... Dad already had a iPhone 3G, so therefore he already has some apps. We've all been using the same iTunes account (one e-mail) for our computers, iPods, and his iPhone for many years now, and have built up a large collection of files. We'd like to continue to all share the same account and therefore be able to have access to the same apps. What I don't want is to have to have all the phones sync the same items, I'd like to be able to pick and choose what music and what apps to have on each phone. I've also read that having different contacts on each phone my be an issue. As a note, I'll be leaving in just over a year for college and would consider starting my own account at that point. Are there any college students here who are using a parent's account? Is there any way to keep the music I bought on our current account and transfer it to my new one, if I decided to do so? And keep it all legal, please. ;)

Winter Photography
I love the composition on all three, but I find the first one a bit too dark, the white string in the second is distracting, and the third is too light.
