[hide=All I managed to get before the things today's update broke were fixed][/hide] Blah @ tf2 being broken for half an hour :/

I love mine. Installed ubuntu netbook remix on it, and with curlftpfs to mount an ftp connection to my webserver and my phone being able to work as a wireless access point it is absolutely awesome. And tiny :D

It's more than likely a problem with one of your extensions. I would disable them all and then re-enable them one at a time until you find the problematic one. Probably not anything to worry about, but you're not going to be getting fully functionality out of whatever extension is causing the problem.

Is it just for certain windows or anything in that area of your screen? Does it happen when using other gtk themes? What are your settings for visual effects (Compiz? The standard ubuntu ones?) Reinstall any third party graphics drivers?

The Sun is a tabloid paper... (also, lulz at how this was dismissed as BS on reddit last night, and it's top on digg right now [/flamebait]) -
No, but scout updates should be soon. :P

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/?page=3 I found this pretty cool, it'll be interesting to look at it again in a year or two. Edit: another reddit link, http://www.davidbergman.net/blog/2009/01/22/how-i-made-a-1474-megapixel-photo-during-president-obamas-inaugural-address/, absolutely amazing shot.

[bleep] yes :D That totally just made my night.

I use Azureas (windows) and kTorrent (linux). Rather fond of both of them, never particularly like uTorrent. And most torrent clients have options for encrypting traffic. :P

I can't get sound output through headphones.

This isn't the place to learn. Your first two comments were fine, but when you tell people to do things like "return it" when you're "learning" and you haven't even gotten a second opinion, or even waited for someone else to post is really not a good thing. I can't stand telling people they're going to have to buy a new part or reformat their computer (even when I'm able to work with the computer myself), just because it's a last resort, even though sometimes it's the only thing left to do. (Though, tbh, I wouldn't have replied to this thread at all if you hadn't posted that.) -

-.- OP: What OS? 1) Control Panel -> Sounds, [XP] See what shows up, make sure the one you want is set as default [Vista] 2) Right click on 'My Computer' or 'Computer', click properties, [XP] then click device manager. Expand the sound tab and see if there's an exclamation point or anything on one of the devices listed. 3) Click on the volume manager icon in the taskbar, [Vista] [XP: Options -> Properties, and make sure Mixer Device is the correct one. 4) When starting the computer, go into the BIOS and make sure onboard sound is enabled. Can't really give specifics for this, but it should be in the options somewhere. -

Honestly, do you have any idea what you're talking about (no) or did you just wiki T1 and look for a number? T1 is used for servers and offices and such because it has symmetrical up and down speeds, as opposed to residential cable or whatever where the upload speed is almost always going to be significantly less than the download speed. T1 lines also connect directly into the ISP's "hub" (there's a technical term, presence point or something like that), as opposed to a residential connection, which can be routed through several "sub-hubs" (again, there's a technical term and a bit more to it, but I can't find the source I remember right now) before connecting to the ISP's main one. I'd never recommend one for residential use because it's just stupid to pay that much, but saying the connection is garbage is equally stupid.

Aww, my dreams seem so generic now :| Replace molecular biologist with with biochemist or cognitive neuroscientist (undecided on that one) and that's mine :P and then I really want to _do_ something, though. I don't want to sit around working at a desk my whole life.

These two are fixed in what will be the next release. We're currently working on somehow fitting an IRC client in it, but other than that, everything else is done. :|

I've never heard that about the dock before o.o I know several people who do design professionally, some use Macs, some use Windows, and tbh, "other people use them" is a stupid reason to use them yourself :/ And with your picture: being a bit of a motorhead, and a complete tinkerer when it comes to computers, I wouldn't want a car that "just worked." One of the comments I remember from when that picture was posted on digg/reddit/one-of-those-sites went something like "Yes, but the mac car can only run on mac gas, can only drive on mac approved roads, and to change the oil you have to ship it off to a shop" :P Honestly, they look like sex, but I'd never buy one solely because of the sheer price of the thing and it not being able to play games.

You're fine :)

Stock heatsink typically has thermal paste on it already. You're probably fine.

Aww, but I took a screenshot. (for Windows 7) [hide=It's not going to waste][/hide]

When you install the OS you're going to have the option to format it. If you're going to install windows 7 you're going to have to format the drive as NTFS, if you're installing linux you're going to have to have a swap partition that's about 1gb (for the bootloader), and then the rest is going to go ext3. I would leave the partition unallocated until you're installing the new OS.

I've never understood this one. I run the entire Adobe CS4 Master Collection on Windows and it's no different than on the Macs I use in my design class at school. You can run OS X on a traditional "PC" too, for a helluva lot cheaper. Agreed. Macs are PC's, same hardware architecture. Macs = overpriced to hell, no customization, no tinkering, no upgrades, no games Windows/"PC" = can do everything a mac can, endless possibility for upgrades, games, significantly cheaper than a Mac [hide=I have visual aids too
