  1. I'm not saying everyone will ignore the update. Some of us will enjoy it and some will continue to use the old high scores. But those who want to use the new ones shouldn't be disallowed because those on the current high scores want all attention on them. Its a new "option". If everyone goes to the new high scores then its a good update. If they don't then you've lost nothing. If its as popular in 2 years as you claim it will be then why try to get it cancelled? If people will use it and enjoy it then yes its selfish for you to try to veto it when your high scores will remain and you can still use them. Its like if a person said that runescape 2 should never be released because then classic will become obsolete. I never claimed that yes is conservative. Its neutral. Its saying that people shouldn't be denied this update just because its something that you personally won't use and that you won't have to use. The neutral option is to not vote ???
  2. Well, you see, your entire point hinges on the gods not playing Sliske's game. If you would like the see the error in your logic, here is an experiment you can do in real life: Get 4 or more people and sit them down at a table Place a ten dollar bill in the center of the table Tell them that if no one touches the money for two minutes, everyone gets $3. However, until the two minutes elapse, anyone can grab the money and have it all to themselves If you'd like, you can use an object redeemable for the $10 to add an element of trust to the experiment.
  3. If the prestige update is released, the current hiscores won't be relevant in two years. Therefore, in order for the update to be truly optional, I would have to quit before the current ones go out of style. If that doesn't happen, and people choose to ignore the update collectively, then the update shouldn't be released. That's common sense. Why release something that everyone will ignore because it is so bad? Please don't say that the effect is minimal at best. It sabotages virtually everything I've worked to achieve since I maxed. No one will be worse off if the update doesn't pass. In short, stop pretending that voting yes is the conservative option.
  4. I agree that it will pass if Jagex wants it to pass; their polling methods are anything but fair and honest. As to whether there needs to be a poll, I find your position to be extremely baffling. This is an update which completely breaks years of Runescape precedent, and is groundbreaking; the customer base has made it clear that they perceive it this way, and they have voiced their discontent with it. Even Jagex has acknowledged that the response to it as pretty bad -- the customer base making their voice clear on an update they feel to adversely affect them, and forcing Jagex, the business, to acknowledge their demands and accommodate them -- this seems to be the most benign thing ever. Isn't that what's supposed to happen? The runescape fanbase (myself included at times) is one of the most reactionary fan bases I have ever seen. Any change is perceived as a change that completely breaks years of precedence. This update is completely optional, and if that many people hated it then it doesn't matter which high scores Jagex says is the main one anyway, player could still just use the old one. Well I mean, it isn't really that optional It's only optional if all of the following are true: You don't care about ranksYou don't associate with anyone who participates in the update (if I still have to hear about people getting levels, I'm still experiencing the update)You never look at the hiscoresYou don't plan to play the game in 2 yearsJust because I don't have to reset my stats doesn't mean the update won't negatively affect me.
  5. If Sliske ascends using the power of the Stone and Staff, he will defeat Saradomin, I think. If he confronts Saradomin as Mahjarrat, using Staff and Stone, he won't win, just like Zamorak almost didn't. Sliske currently has the momentum and element of surprise, plus that the Shadow Realm is almost exclusively his domain - apparently even the Dragonkin are not so powerful there. In addition, Sliske is far more ruthless - he kidnaps Death, even - and far more flexible - he claims and releases the Citadel as the situation demands - which make him harder to fight. I think this is like many of the wars we've seen in the past fifty to sixty years, e.g. USA in Vietnam, USSR in Afghanistan, USA in Iraq - a superpower enters an area unfamiliar to them, fights a bloody war versus an intangible enemy - with increasing desperation - and is eventually driven off with loss of strength and face. This time, the guerillas have a nuke or two, hidden in the jungle. Small wonder that the gods are unwilling to charge in. @Ruinous Edge: That's always a possibility. Zaros' powers and methods are defined in such a way that he could always be pulling the strings on anything :P. Even if he ascends, it is indeterminate what Tier of Godhood he will find himself in. It is certainly not clear or obvious to me that he would find himself immediately on a Tier 3 level right after ascending -- that to me seems highly unlikely, if anything. Sliske is ruthless, but so is Zamorak (who is on equal footing, or was pre-BoL, with Saradomin), in fact Zamorak seems to thrive in struggle - his motto is "strength through chaos [struggle]" after all. Similarly, Saradomin is also ruthless; he basically genocides the Naragi all because they refuse to worship him. He also creates the three Saradomin necklaces in order to slyly manipulate and control the thoughts of his enemies -- seems like brilliant strategy to me. He's also not extremely inflexible. He's arrogant and self-righteous, but he seems to have adopted to various situations quite well (Zaros, fall of Zaros/rise of Zammy, God Wars, etc.) Also, Saradomin has the Crown, which would let him locate Sliske no matter where he goes (because has 2 Elder items). So, all I am saying is, if a confrontation were to occur, it is not certain at all who would win, and it's a bit presumptious to assume that Sliske would easily outmatch Saradomin. In fact, experience suggests that Saradomin would have the edge, in that he actually engaged in direct confrontations with extremely powerful Gods (Zamorak, BoL) in the past and managed to hold his own. Something Sliske has never really been able to do. It doesn't matter what tier of godhood he would be. Right now he is the most powerful being in existence because he can effectively control everyone else's actions. He doesn't need to confront any god individually; it'd be stupid for another god to fight him. Also Saradomin would only be able to tell if Sliske's artefacts are in the shadow realm or Gielinor, and they're quite obviously in the shadow realm.
  6. That's a really good idea
  7. Yea, but he could be trying to divide and conquer even more than usual. Prevent any sort of alliances like Sara-Arma before by planting suspicion in their minds. I can promise you that there won't be any alliances :p
  8. If his plan is to keep the Stone of Jas, he doesn't have to win the contest. That said, it would be funny if he won the contest.
  9. If they attacked him then and there none of them could take possession of the stone. Except maybe Saradomin with his crown, none of them know where the stone is. Sliske didn't have it with him. Saradomin can only tell what plane artefacts are on, and there are only two possibilities: the shadow realm and Gielinor. It probably isn't on Gielinor.
  10. I guess I missed that :/ Does anyone have a picture?
  11. Yeah, Sliske was quite friendly to me cuz I chose to follow him He called his emissary needy L
  12. Making the current hiscores the default only hides the update. If hiding an update improves it, then it shouldn't be released in the first place.
  13. I don't like suggesting things that will screw someone over in the long run
  14. The same sort of people who can afford to play Runescape all day without having to go to school or have a job, or doing anything else in life. It seems some of the top players are financially secure enough that they can just afford to do that all day. In the 200M thread, I did the math for the first 39 days of Divination, and using extremely conservative estimates, it turned out that Drumgum was able to get 60M Divination experience by playing something like 16-17 hours a day. Allegedly, Suomi, similarly, didn't need a job, and nor did Jake, to support himself. So there's quite a few people that can afford it. Woah now, not having to work to support yourself and having cash to spend on spins are two completely different things. Being financially or otherwise secure to be able to play 16+ hours a day is reasonable for some people (basically all of the 200m all thread mancrushes). Having the financial resources to do that AND generate $200/day to spend on spins is another matter entirely. There's a limit of $500/week
  15. Not really. The main source of smithing xp needs to leave the game at the rate that it enters it.
  16. 2/3 yes unless Pips decided to phrase his statement incorrectly.
  17. If they truly did not want woodcutting xp, then it wouldn't be worth it, but we aren't talking about someone with 200m, or even 99, woodcutting.
  18. Consider making a second account or subjecting yourself to the limitations that the prestige system would present. You aren't losing anything except for the possibility for a good rank in a hiscore table that very few people care about. If that is what you enjoy about the prestige system, consider competing in a seasonal hiscore.
  19. Smithing needs a consumable product, so repair kits would be a good addition, as long as they're balanced correctly (and you know they won't be).
  20. I think they need to adjust the combat system to be more engaging and rewarding at low levels, so that people can create a good pvp account in < 1 week. This would allow people to come over from other games and do pvp casually. I also think it'd be cool to allow console gamers to play pvp minigames on a dummy account, but that's a little beyond the scope of this thread.

  22. Only one top player has any intention of spending significant amounts of money on 200m in all skills, though, and that's only under a specific set of circumstances and most likely won't happen. Besides, if a player did spend a ton of money on a goal, they are removed from the competition, so it doesn't matter at all. The real problem is with fair methods of abuse, such as warbands. Everyone can do them so the effects are magnified. Warbands alone bring in 75-100 times more xp per day than buyable spins for less effort/xp.
  23. How is the game going to break and you get more xp than possible with all 99s? Sure, there will be exploits discovered that let you get xp fast at X level than a brand new account, but at the end of the day the fastest way to level is going to be giving Squeell some spins... so who cares? Why do people keep bringing up spins Do you honestly expect a lot of people to buy a ton of xp?
