I think there tends to be a bit of a correlation between one's lack of social skills and one's interest in programming, gaming, and stuff like that. And I also think people tend to blame the world around them for their shortcomings as a gut reaction, rather than looking for reasons why their own decisions and beliefs might be the problem. So when people have bad social skills and bad experiences with the opposite sex, combined with their initial tendencies to blame everyone but themselves for their circumstances, it's easy to see how some people can gravitate to certain political movements which center around blaming some external group of people for their problems Not really. Maybe a little more than other occupations, but all of the people I've worked with and met at conferences have been perfectly normal. There's just a selection bias because the anti-social, neckbeardy types don't get good job offers and they don't network with other programmers outside of online communities. So it stands to reason that they seem a little more common online since the real world pushes them away, which feeds back into their bitter attitudes.

Pretty much every programming community sucks. Like, usually programmers in real life are cool, but the online communities seem to attract the lonely neckbeard type of programmers. It's always alt-right bullshit, women suck, not-so-casual racism in every off topic conversation.

they're writing gui's to track a killers IP address  to the peeps in here who javascript but like typed languages how do you feel about typescript? ie: https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScriptSamples/blob/master/raytracer/raytracer.ts TS is a nice improvement to JS, but if you're using a compile to JS language, TS is pretty far down the list in my opinion. Types are nice and all, but TS doesn't really make development that much better, other than solving a handful of common bugs and adding a couple of features. Elm & ClojureScript really do a great job of making frontend development a lot easier and more fun for developers, so I'll always choose them over TS if I'm committing to a compile to JS language. Elm in particular is really, really nice to work with. At work we just use Babel to keep up with the ES spec though. & of course using something like TS on the server (and 90% of the code I write is meant to run on the server) is kinda pointless. We'd just use one of the billion other type safe languages if type safety was important to us.

Vezon did you see the tarantula hawk video? Pretty sick
  10. This is honestly not a bad album, but I'm so, so, so close to giving up on this band. They clearly have the talent to produce amazing albums, but they just can't get there. They're just so frustrating and it's not even worth it. Like this is seriously a legit song, but even it falls flat at times, and that's the closest they've gotten to holding it together for one damn song.

It takes like 3 weeks to get pokemon that can beat level 2.5k pokes though cuz of the soft cap & how biased gyms are towards attackers. Dragonites are a little tough until you get a good lapras or wigglytuff, but lapras & snorlax can both be taken down pretty easily once you start getting 1.5k cp pokemon, especially lapras

Dudes. I am so bored. Nobody wants to hang out cuz they'd have to drive home in the storm. But it's not even rainy or windy right now and I'm just sitting around watching a shitty football game.

Things are very different once you max your account in rs. Up until then, you can make excuses to get cheap xp, because at least there's a reward for it. Not everyone enjoys training magic, so if fire blasting rats overnight lets you do Barrows, then go for it. But after you've achieved everything there is to achieve, I think that the goal is to become better at the game. For me, that meant spending hours studying how runespan worked in order to achieve 130k xp/hour or figuring out how draconic jadinkos worked and averaging 350k xp/hour. If you're just sitting around at crystal trees until you have 200m woodcutting, then what even is the point? What are you trying to prove? Are you better off in any way because you had runescape up in another window every day for 6 months?
