  1. Ooooooh.... gonna stamp your feet and hold your breath too? :P The point is - Jagex isn't beholden to bend over to every little virtual riot. You don't avoid unpopular changes just because "someone might leave." Sometimes you have to amputate a leg in order to save the body. The rest is just rehashed argumentum ad populum with a heavy dose of argumentum ad hominem.
  2. Following that logic, Jagex should never do anything to reduce the numbers - and that includes banning people for any offense. It's not just about inflating numbers. This is just a variant of argumentum ad populum - and a not well thought out one at that.
  3. I can add limpwurt seed (1) to this list. And a Mod post on the Jagex forums (in the sticky on the new shield) confirms that wyverns drop visages.
  4. I just noticed the rack of horseshoes on the wall of Horvik's anvil house. Except they aren't called horseshoes, they are called "metal pieces." When you examine them, they say "These would make fine shoes for... um... unicorns."
  5. I don't play any other MMOs. And free players have no economic leverage. I'd wager the biggest part of free players have adblocking software that nerfs the banners. So really, I think a mass exodus of players is just an empty threat.
  6. Sorry, I have to debunk you here... The special case is during a solar eclipse, and even then only the brightest of stars might be seen. I have seen Venus in broad daylight before, as have many people.
  7. Argumentum ad populum. I have no problem with a level 3 skiller, though I question the motivations for making such an account. My problem is with people keeping level 3 accounts and using them as revenue streams for their other characters. The purpose of F2P is to give you a lengthy trial of the game before you commit to paying more money. Some in the thread think that entitles them to a first-class revenue stream. I do not. Real skillers know that willows are the faster wc experience. The macroers and skillers at yews are only in it for the money. I have no sympathy for that. The gold farmers would not move to willows if yews became unavailable - there isn't enough money to justify it - risk vs.reward. The true skillers probably would move back to willows, and I see no harm in that.
  8. As I have stated earlier in the thread, Jagex and the P2P community do a good job of removing bots in P2P. And once again, an objection centers on bots and not on people who drop trade from level-3 special accounts to their mains. It's not just about bots, people.
  9. Well, I will keep it alive. You all keep harping on the bots and improved bot detection. But, as I keep repeating: it's not just bots. It's also about all the people with low-level side characters who do all the wc on some level-3 and then drop trade to their mains. It's easy to sit around and blame the bots - but that's just dishonest. How many of you keep side characters to do the work of gathering raw materials? And how will removing the bots fix that side of the problem? The answer: it won't. But so many players are in denial. Those evil autoing bots or the sweatshop players overseas are the problem. But you are blind to your own roles in the problem. There is no legit reason for F2P to have access to yew trees. Jagex should change it so that when you try to cut a yew on F2P, you get the message "You need to be on a member's server to cut yew trees." Simple fix. You will never be able to outsmart human players or bot writers with any other strategy.
  10. Sorry, no support. F2P should be scaled back, not amped up. Adding more bank space just makes it easier for the bots and mules to set up and operate free of charge. No support at all.
  11. I tried a dragon wc axe, but it made me so tense... I was always panicking that that flying axe head was mine. Life is so stress free with a rune wc axe. If you lose the head, it's no big deal.
  12. I really don't care if a moderator likes it or not. I can put it on the web or any number of places. And you guys can just keep hiding your heads in the sand. ;-) Muling and bots are destroying this game. The status quo doesn't work. Get over it. My proposal takes the incentives for muling and botting out of the game, and still allows a trial of the game for an indefinite period. You get to learn how to do all the the skills, you just don't get to make a ton of money at it.
  13. It's not a stupid suggestion at all - it just rubs some of you the wrong way and you choose to demonize it. F2P is supposed to be a trial of the main game. A trial version of RuneScape doesn't need higher level means of making money. Willows are high enough for you to decide if you want to pursue woodcutting more seriously; trout and salmon are enough for you to decide if fishing is your bag and bronze bars are enough for you to get the finer points of smithing. Allowing yew cutting on F2P just encourages the use of bots and low-level side characters to do the actual muling for the high level kingpins. Some of you state that there are already bots on P2P and that is true to a certain extent. But Jagex does police P2P more and to some extent, the P2P user base does a decent job of self-policing ("reporting") bad apples. There is no such community on F2P, nor is there a Jagex presence of any significance. Bots and level-3s run wild. Since the F2P community can't be counted on to police itself, and Jagex won't police it, it's time for Jagex to just go "scorched earth" and take the profit out of F2P. The profit in willows or wooden shields does not balance out the effort, so bots will not migrate to those items. Likewise for trout, salmon, low ores. The status quo doesn't work. It's time to stop defending it and start taking the profit out of F2P.
  14. Ah yes, the thriving wooden shield market. Do you really think the bots would still be running for willow logs that sell for 20-30gp? I don't, and we covered this in an earlier post. Others here concur with me. I doubt the bots would migrate to P2P. The membership fee would deter most of them and the higher level of policing that Jagex does on P2P would take care of the rest. Exactly. But some here think yew bots would move to swordies if they couldn't cut yews on F2P. Once again, I strike a nerve. \ The "economy" isn't some sacred status quo that must be protected at all costs. The economy exists to serve the game, not vice versa.
  15. Well, I am watching Jay Leno's monologue right now... let's just say that Jay, Dave, Conan and Jimmy will have monologue material for weeks now. Such is the Cult of Celebrity. The girl has a cell to herself. It's not like she is in danger. She just needs to put her big girl britches on and get it over with.
  16. And as I have said before in this thread, you neuter the other skills too. I don't personally see a lot of trade in swordies or tuna on P2P, but you could easily neuter those on F2P if you think autoers would go there. Coal is the real problem. It's used in almost everything that is smithed. For that I don't have an answer. But that doesn't mean we can't fix the yew problem. I must really be hitting on a nerve here...
  17. Let's see ...a few ad hominems, and a few pleas that it will hurt P2P, because the P2P players apparently can't be bothered to cut their own wood for fletching. Why do you think bots would move to willows in lieu of yews? At some point, it's just not rewarding enough to auto. Yews are 300 each, right? Suppose we make the F2P yews decorative and the bots all move to willows @ 30. In one swoop, we have cut the bot's slice of the economy to 10% of what it is with yews. Do you really think the sweatshops and bots would move to willows? I think most would not. The reward wouldn't be worth it. The bots aren't playing to powerlevel, they are in the game to make real-world money or to drop trade their gains to a main account player who didn't want to do his own woodcutting. And I think a similar approach to the other raw materials would get rid of much of the rest of the bot population. At some point, we are going to have to stop looking at F2P as a cheap source for raw materials.
  18. All very good suggestions. If you can't fence out the wolves, poison the well. "Scorched earth" all the way.
  19. Walk around any F2P world and check out the yews. There's a plague of green & tan level-3s running back and forth. We all know these are either (1) sweatshop bots or (2) ancillary characters who will drop trade their goods to a main account. Jagex needs to cowboy up and admit that their bot-sniffing technology can never keep up with bot writers. F2P yew trees need to be replaced with maples or perhaps even less. Or leave them as yews, but make them decorative and uncuttable.
  20. I just run down the west wall of Varrock to that mine by the Champion's Guild. Clay respawns quickly - you only really need 1 rock.
  21. I am sorry, but if an item is readily available or makeable in-game, then it is not rare. Almost everyone can create bronze items at the drop of a hat. The best definition of rare, as regarding to RuneScape items: 2 a : marked by unusual quality, merit, or appeal : DISTINCTIVE b : superlative or extreme of its kind From Merriam-Webster.
  22. The Dwarven Helmet is what the Granite Helm should have looked like all along. FWIW, the general store offers me 24000 for the Dwarven Helmet and 20000 for the helm of Neitiznot. The Experiment No. 2s under the witch's house occasionally drop mystic earth staffs and clues. I have not determined the level, but it's one of those horrid Uri emote things and it warns me about double agents.
  23. And you thought people who stole bronze, iron and steel arrows were annoying... just you wait. :wall:
  24. Is it possible to flatpack a marble cape rack and trade to other players?
  25. You might find the Dagonnhai book in your POH bookshelf rather than the Library. That's where I had stashed mine.
