  1. The brand doesn't matter that much. Cooling, oc, warranty etc can differ... But it's cheap and it's a good brand, that's why i recommend it. MSI is probably not a brand i'd buy from, since their capacitors&etc can vary in quality. Really, Asus/Sapphire/Powercolor/HIS etc... All make good stuff. I said the OCZ one because it got a very good price, the Sigma one is probably good, but it's more expensive and you don't need 635w for your build (if you're wondering why i recommended a Corsair 650w one to jearkdood, it's because it had a very nice price). The OCZ psu don't got 4 cables. "1 x 20+4-pin ATX 1 x 4-pin CPU 1 x 6-pin PCI-E 2 x SATA 4 x Peripheral 1 x Floppy" More cables doesn't mean more fun! Take a look at my psu in the "computer picture thread" and you'll see more cables isn't always better (ok, i got a bad case but anyways), a big reason to buy a modular psu. I can't say if the OCZ is good or bad, because i haven't owned one, but it's brother, the 600w one has gotten good reviews. SATA is the name of the bus that transfers data between the motherboard - harddrive/optical drive... Here's an optical drive for you... http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827151179 I've already listed a harddrive for you... I don't really understand why you gotta make so many pages of this, i made a complete computer on the first page. Sure, you can change whatever you want but i don't understand the idea of going piece by piece. If someone mentions another hardware option, you can check out that and compare them in a review and make up your mind which ones the best.
  2. 1000th post lol! No, your uncle is dead wrong. Custom built pc's ARE cheaper! No doubt. Get me a pc from hp or dell with a quad, 9800gt and 4gb ram and then compare the price on such a build with one on a custom computer. Custom pc's have all the advantages, you get to know how the pc works (if you build it yourself), you save alot of money, you get better performance for your cash, more reliable hardware... etc etc. Even if you pay a computer shop to build it for you, you'll still end up saving alot of money compared to buying such a build prebuilt.
  3. With reliable brands such as Corsair, FSP, Enermax, SeaSonic etc... You can't go wrong. They all differ, but read reviews (once again....). The OCZ one then, dunno if the 600 and 500 differs in quality, but the 600 has gotten good reviews so you should be fine with it. Pretty nice price on it too. There's no point in getting that one with 635w. I listed the memories because they are good and cheap. As i don't think you'll be overclocking you won't need any faster. I will take my time and list some video cards with price/performance, then i'll get back to cleaning my room. Sub 100$ you have 4670, but i think you want more juice (atleast that's how i've understood). Then for 122 you have.4830, which perform a tiny bit better than 9/8800gt http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814102803 For 170$ you have 4850 (HIS and Powercolor, both good) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814161259 I'm not trying to push ATI product onto you, but the fact is that on the canadian newegg they are the most priceworthy. If you want Nvidia you'll have to pay more for the same performance. Really, if you don't know what to get: Read reviews!!
  4. Yes, that's what i meant. You need to register to get the 1 year license. A bit annoying, but it's free!
  5. Powercolor. 4870 is the next card after 4850, it all depends on how much you're gaming, what resolution and how much eye-candy you want. Read a review or two about the cards. ATI designed the cards to run on low fan noise (the stock fan speed is around 30%) so it doesn't sound like a jumbo-jet. They get hot, yes, but they won't break on full load, you can easily fix this by turning the fan speed up in Catalyst or Rivatuner. If it would die because of you using it properly and you got you warranty period left, you'll get it replaced.
  6. I usually download the new av first, disable the internet connection (yes a bit paranoid by that bit), uninstall the current program, reboot, install the new av (reboot if necessary), enable internet again, update the av and then run a scan. Avast offers both pro and free version, but either way you choose you gotta register and then you can continue using it after the 60 days.
  7. How you might have gotten infected: http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/ ... rticulares AVG has gotten bad reviews during the last 12 months, try another av, such as Avast or Avira. You can also check with Panda online scanner (perhaps other companies offers online scanners also?) if you don't want to pick up a new av.
  8. Yes, HD4850 is much better than 9800GT (which is basically 8800gt which was launched 14 months ago). It depends on how much you are gaming, 4850 and 9800gtx perform the same, but 9800gtx is usually higher priced. I understand getting a high clocked dual core for gaming, but if you are gonna use it as a all-around computer, a quad is much better. It all depends on the programmers (and they are going to have to program for several cores as the number of cores and threads will rise). Check a hardware site for a review on 4850. ATI's next serie is gonna be HD5xxx and Nvidia (with their naming cirkus) will launch their cards with GT1/2/3xx. New serie, higher numbers. But you can't just look on a number from ATI and Nvidia and the one that has the highest number would be the best. Read reviews!
  9. I don't know, never heard of that brand. I guess it depends on what "style" you like, i personally don't like such glowing cases. But by the looks of it it seems to be quite price-worthy. It comes with a psu, but don't use it for this sort of build. Google the name of it and check if there's a review of it. Ask someone else about the mouse/keyboard.
  10. Yes, you still need a granny-board to hook it all up. Those memories are for apple notebooks. 4gb ocz 1066 ones (37$ after rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227289 gigabyte p45 mobo (105) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128368 samsung optical drive (26$) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827151171 The psu is a bit overstated, but it's a real nice price. Edit: Get a drive with liteon... lightscribe... whatever the name is, too many names to remember!, seems like the one i picked don't have it.
  11. Im too lazy to make sexy links. antec 300 - 74 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... ntec%20300 corsair 450w - 98 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6817139003 intel q66 - 230 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819115017 hitaci 500gb - 74 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822145215 ati 4850 - 171 - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814131125 corsair 4gb - 67 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6820145184 gigabyte p45 mobo - 117 - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813128345 (no onboard video) Edit: forgot optical drive: Samsung sata - 35 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827151173 =866 (then you got all your rebates so you could probably cut off 100)
  12. You need a socket 775 motherboard, get DDR2 instead of 3, the difference in speed is not worth the price. And why such a big case? Are you planning on putting 500 hd's in it? Antec 300 is a good alternative, extremely price-worthy. You can also get a 4830 for a lower price than that 9800gt, and performs a little bit better. For 144$ you can get a 4850 (125 after rebate)... You can get a 650w corsair psu for the same price if you plan on getting a stronger card later on and more hd's...
  13. Nein, 500/550w 80+ (good brand) and 4870/260 is perfect. 650w and cf/sli perhaps...
  14. Then uninstall the current driver and download the latest driver if you haven't done that.
  15. Newer sockets, but the same principal. http://www.nordichardware.com/Guides/?skrivelse=432
  16. I understand people who just want a ready-made pc instead of fiddeling with the hardware for a while, even if you know how to install. I advice you to see if one of the online-component sites will be able to build you a computer of the parts you choose. Even if you pay a company to build a computer based on components you've chosen, you still get a big advantage in price/performance compared to buying from HP or Dell. If you like to build it yourself, ask a relative to come over and help you or check alot of guides (both picture and videos).
  17. I like both, but i have to say Perfect Dark... Really fun to play when you are a few!
  18. Yes yes, but since he says 1024 it's kinda hard to promote a card better than 9800gt. I mean, i've played on 1024 and 1280 with my crappy 8600gt on high settings (even on Far Cry 2) and gotten good fps. I think 4830 or 9800gt would be best honestly... (depends on if he has thought of a new screen tho) and also since DX11 cards will come out later next year. But let's see if we got pci-e or agp to deal with...
  19. Just download cpu-z (or gpu-z) and check if it says pci-e x16 (or 2.0 x16). Pryo, it's the blue and black ones =)
  20. .us or .com? The .com isn't very safe according to WOT. I used the .us a while ago, worked without a problem.

It's not possible. Stalin tried this, mixing apes and humans. But it failed. Perhaps if we move back a couple of million of years, yes, but not now.
  22. 4870 uses gddr5... That's why it has it's insane speed. 128bit bus, yes, but it still performs the same as the 3850 which has 256bit... It's pretty amazing that it has it's performance but with just a 128bit bus and it also makes it much more cheaper for us consumers. You could also go on about the 4870's 256 bus, but since it uses gddr5 it doesn't need a 512 bus, take a look at GT200 which uses gddr3 and it's bus is 448 and 512 (if remember correct)... Which makes it more expensive to produce. As i said, it depends on what resolution you play on, the budget and how often you play games. For me, playing a bit then and now with a 19" widescreen... It's the perfect card. Performance/price ratio is very good (as with all the 48xx series cards). And since that dude only plays on 1024x768 he doesn't need a 4850/9800gtx+ to play with high settings for a good frame rate.
  23. I've always written: Band - song. Kotiteollisuus=Home industry/home made... (hard to translate). Kuolemajärvi=Deathlake. Anyways... Pink Floyd - Julia Dream (Judas Priest has a song that sounds like this, i don't remember which one it is... Some passages is similar!!)
  24. You can get a 4670 for 70$, which performs the same as the 3850 but with just a 128bit bus... Pretty amazing. Yum yum, veggie-burgers and some fries for dinner... Now a coffee!
  25. Kotiteollisuus - Kuolemajärvi
