  1. You do know Windows XP won't be supported by Microsoft in 2009, correct? It's just something to consider. OH snap.. forgot that.. guess that's another 100$ down the drain for the vista :? No need for you to get Vista, as you get XP with this. Just get Win7 when it comes out in about a year.
  2. And since it's a laptop he can't change it. Could throw in another stick of ram... But won't do much for the gaming part. Needs a whole new computer...
  3. Why has no one said that the biggest problem of them all on his computer for this game is the gpu....?
  4. I know more or less what they all do, but don't never talked to anyone (except a few pm's). They all do a good job tho.
  5. [hide=quotes] It's Windows XP Professional. Which means it does include all the Microsoft stuff, though not sure if it'll be the 2007 Microsoft Bundle, or not. Even if it doesn't, OpenOffice is your best friend, free, and works similar to the Microsoft Bundle. Still, that computer is only going to get you 30 FPS on Crysis. Two-Four years from now, I can see Crysis either getting upgraded further so that it is still a 'FPS Tester', or newer games are putting Crysis to shame with the enhancement of gfx cards, CPU's...etc. That is the bare minimum though, so expect it to be out-dated within that 2-4 years from now. It'll still work, but I don't know if you'll want to play Crysis for the next 10 years only, and not get into any other games that demand more RAM, Video Memory, and higher CPU processing speeds (it will happen). It's kind of 'dumb' in a sense to just buy something that will barely play Crysis on 'good' settings. Like Vista 64bit, or waiting until what Windows 7 brings to the table would be a good idea. My main point is you're buying out-dated technology that will play a game that has been the 'ultimate frames per second' game and is starting to fall down in terms of difficulty of achieving good FPS, and with the new technologies out this year, and the next year, Crysis won't be a game that is hard to get 80FPS with on high settings, soon, and even 50FPS at an affordable price. I don't know, it'll probably do you good, but expect to be looking for another one soon if you plan on playing anything more in the coming years, as quad core technology gets integrated, or used more maturely in games (or just look at the i7s), and dual core dwindles away. A lot will change in 4-5 years, and I don't know what you're going to Uni for, but that's about the time span most spend at uni anyways. It is a good computer right now, but look into the future. I'm not saying to spend like $2000 or anything, but spending say $500 more on top of $700 will allow you to keep the laptop and keep up with developing technology/games for a longer period of time, and will probably save you money. I don't know, it's just something to think about, not meaning to scare you from buying it, as it is a good computer for $700, but thats for the standards that are right now, and not the standards that will develop in April 09, or August 09, or August 010. I don't know, perhaps it's just the nagging of buying something that is designed to play a game, specifically, and might perform well in other tasks, but things were probably ignored in the process of the development of it, but I just had to say this. [/hide] It was Nadril that brought up Crysis, and i guess, to show what the computer is capable of running. DX11 which comes next year will be able to run on 9/10 cards, but alot of new things in it will require an upgrade in the hardware (DX11 comes to Vista/7), so i don't see why this computer would be bad. Just change the gpu when it is released. The cpu in that computer is easily overclocked to 3ghz, and in that case (and in most) the gpu is the bottleneck. I mean, look at the people that bought a C2 and 8800gtx in 06, it still performs really well, and no need for such a system to be upgraded until next year if you feel it's not enough (which would be a system that been there for about 2&½ years). I do think this computer is extremly price-worthy.
  6. This. It's rather clear that you've already put the essential information in while at your apartment, and it's rather clear that machines can connect to it just fine. If you don't know the credentials, but your parents' house has a modem with an Ethernet plug, you could daisy-chain the Internet connection to the Linksys router. I read the post as if he tested the router at his home first with his settings, and then went over to his parents house and kept the changes instead of entering the things his parents were given by their ISP.
  7. You need to put in the information given by your ISP to the router before you can access the internet.
  8. Budget, purpose of the computer (document writing/surfing/gaming), where do you live and do you want a ready-made computer or put it together yourself?

  10. OK drunk when answering, ,and i hope my spelling is good. going to sleep after this. Yes, i think parents and adults are more ok with violent movies while sex and porn movies are not ok. because i think maybe violence is something most kids have experienced already, dunno your age, but sex is something different, it's something that you actually (don't reply, damn you, stop acting so parenting) wait with until you meet the one that you really like and care about. My parents didn't let me see violent movies until i was 14 or so (still watched jurassic park and some other movies when i was younger. i remember i watched *don't remember name* (move about ome girl getting possed with satan and some guys is trying to get rid of satan in her body, from the 70's), and it was actually good that they didn't allow me to watch such movies. Because i remember this horror movie i saw (the one im trying to describe above) when i was 12 and in the middle of the night, i was [cabbage] scared after watching it for a couple of weeks. I think it's good with certain age limits, when the brain is yong it's not really good to make it experience horror movies or drunkness when it's young (i think the brain isn't "adult" unltil the age of 25, correct me if i'm wrong), most laws are there to protect us. gonna sleep now, sorry for this reply.

Yes! Really worth the money to go see them live. They are pretty funny guys, i've seen them live two times in Stockholm, they shook hands with the fans after the gig and were in good spirits. Oh also, I remember when i saw Opeth in 2005 (Stockholm too), Micke said something like this: "Hey guys! My mom is here tonight *points to where she is*, but don't ask her out, my dad is here too!". (Listening to d'n'b while answering a question about AA muhaha)

  13. With those specs, yes. Crysis (Warhead also) i get better fps on XP than Vista. And something that you don't need to mention.

    Iron Maiden - 2000, 03, 05, 06, 07 (Germany). Opeth - 2005, 06. In Flames - 2005, 07. Entombed - 2005 (i think). BB King - 2006. Amon Amarth - 2005, 06. Dismember - 2006. Satyricon - 2006. Bolt Thrower - 2006. Katatonia - 2006. Mastodon - 2005 (i think). Those are the ones i can remember while writing this. Should go to some gigs next year i think.

  17. It is not monopolizing the market? What the hell is it then? If you're using your muscles to pay computer makers to only use Intel, and giving them a discount at the same time - How is that not freezing out the other chip maker?! It's never a good thing that one company owns so much of a market, in the end, development will come off and prices rise. No, AMD is not trying to sell overpriced chips to companies. Intel can do this, because they earn so bloody much money anyways. And if they give discount to companies to only sell Intel chips, they are practizing their monopoly and the market would slowly but steady, a one company market. AMD has the fastest graphics card on the market today, i don't know what options there's at ready-built computer companies because i never buy products from them.
  18. What? I don't understand what you are trying to say. Explain? Oh wait, hmm... you mean Q66 vs 920? It depends in what you are doing, mostly gaming and not converting/rendering etc much? Q66. Altho, for gaming a high clocked duo is often better. Q66 is still great value for it's money and a really good chip for overclocking. As i stated above, the new 1366 socket is aimed at overclockers and enthusiasts. Here's some results (not including q66, but q9450 which is 267mhz faster, 4mb more cache and a higher bus speed (300): http://sweclockers.com/articles_show.php?id=6125&page=7 http://sweclockers.com/articles_show.php?id=6125&page=8
  19. George: Do you use the latest drivers? Because their drivers are working really well now. I have systems with both Nvidia and ATI, and i don't find one driver being better than the other one, but i prefer the utility's from ATI - more settings. Knight: You should clean your computer, wheter it's a desktop or a laptop, a couple of times per year atleast. They collect a big amount of dust. I don't know if you're using the 90nm or 65nm chip, but if you're using the 90nm chip it will quite obviously not be as cool as the c2d which are in 65/45. One core usually gets more workload than the other(s), even if it's coded for multi-cores. I really start disliking all the negativity against AMD on this forum. Things like "amd chips breaks easier" "don't go with amd, intel ftw!" etc etc. In the European Union court, AMD has filed a case against Intel (which is currently being processed, but will take a huge amount of time due to the amount of documents), on the grounds that Intel has foul-played. In the documents they have given the court, there are claims which state that Intel has used their massive monopoly on the cpu market to pay manufacturers to ONLY use Intel chips. And i don't think a company that has 18-20% of the cpu market goes up against a company with the remaning percentage without having the supports of documents. Nvidia has also had/have a big problem with their circuits for their graphics card in the 8-9serie, both in the mobile and desktop version. And this isn't something i'm pulling out of my [wagon], search and you'll see. Companies like Apple, Acer, Dell and Packard Bell have reported that a higher amount than normal on Nvidias circuits have gone kaputt, and Nvidia also reservred 200$ million for warranty repairs this summer. Of course, AMD isn't a clean sheep either, but since so many here are complaining on this company i felt the need to write. And now you think i'm a troll writing this on a AMD computer, but i'm actually using Intel/Nvidia when writing this.
  20. I'd say yes. Don't know if you usually log your temps... But when you get back to your overclock it would be good. There's also cooling for hd's (guess you know that) if it would get too hot.
  21. I would recommend you to -log- your tempratures. For the cpu, core-temp is great for that (settings, enable logging). For the harddrive, i suppose you could do with speedfan (don't know any other programs for the hd than sandra lite and speedfan), altho speedfan sometimes displays the temp a bit off sometimes. For gpu i guess rivatuner would be the best, target adapter, hardware monitoring, log to file. Fire up a demanding game you have, enable logging play for 5min or so with stock clocks. Open up the the logs and check the temps. Go back, overclock your cpu to maybe 2ghz (and gpu if you overclock that too) and run it again, check the logs, raise your cpu again... play... check logs and continue so until you start seeing too high temps. Also, to see your bsod: Right click your computer, advanced, start&restart, settings, unclick "reboot automatically". Bad grammar post@Joe!

  23. Yes, i tried to shrink a Vista partition myself from Vista a while back, but it didn't want to do it. And did a quick search, it's not possible (don't remember the exact answer). But you can download Gparted and burn the iso onto a disc and partition with it (there's a how-to on it's page (i think)), it worked without a problem. You can try that. Or wait for another one to give a more clear answer. Remember to make the backup disc for Vista (if you haven't already) before you start.
  24. It should drop after i while (don't know how many months, maybe 6+?), it's targeted for overclockers and enthusiasts. It will remain high-end thru it's life-cykle. I don't think you will be using all it's power... Unless you are working with rendering and other heavy programs. It's better if you plan on getting a computer, to create a build-thread. The Q66 will (i assume) be more than enough for you. I'm gonna support AMD next year and buy one of the Denebs lol.
