  1. high intensity interval training. 4 mins at 90% or more of your max puls, 2 mins at about 70% max puls. do 4 sets. Push upwards of your max puls in the last 15 seconds of each interval. Don't run HIIT 2 days in a row, but if you can, do it every two days. that is the most efficient way of training any aerob capacity, which is what all running, and other high intensity sports requires. I think you know the actual running strategies, so it's all about the actual fitness. good luck :) Thanks, I'll try it this Friday or so since I won't have practice then.
  2. So I posted on this blog to say that I'm 5 seconds away from running a 5 Minute mile. Also, I'm getting rich again.
  3. 5-6 Seconds off from going under 5 Minutes for the 1600M. At 5:05 right now with a full 2 weeks of training before our next meet... Spring break also so I only have 2 practices this week. Any ideas on how to train for running under 5:00 for the 1600?
  4. Shoes may be the problem if you just start. Also, I know your feeling of having your knees blown out. Walking was a challenge for me when it happened for me.
  5. Started Running again? Or is that you have been running then the sore feeling comes back? I had the most brutal workout today. 5x5:00, running hard for 5 minutes, taking a short break (30 Seconds to a minute), then running hard for another 5 minutes.
  6. 5:09 in the mile, better by at least a second. 16'2'' in Long Jump, 8 inches of PR. Going to try and get sub 5 minutes at a meet in SF at another meet.
  7. That's a good 2 mile pace for a person that hasn't trained. The best way to improve that would go on longer runs. Then doing speed work outs (400m, 800m etc)
  8. basketball? all you need is a ball, and you can get together whenever. Just be sure to always play full-court and have fair teams. 5 on 5 full-court can be quite a work-out. To be challanged mentally, chose any sport. Do it properly, and be a little competitive amongst yourselves, and the mental and tactical component always starts. Many sports (tennis, squash, handball, water polo, martial arts sparring, volley ball) requires so much practice with technique before you get a real tough workout that it might be a good idea to start with something where you can get exhaused right off the bat :D what're you interested in? that's what really matters. Track and Field is all a mind race. Knowing when to pass an opponent up and when to start the kick at the end is all mental. Its all tactics. If you have speed after a long race, use it. I would suggest jogging, once you get into better shape you can try going at a tempo pace (30 seconds hard jogging, 30 seconds light jogging).
  9. Running will help you with your abs and arms if you have a good style. So it would help you get a stronger core if you do run. There's also a pretty good core workout that I know of. Off the top of my head its pretty much this: *40 Meter Sprint between every drill, all drills are 30 seconds* Start with 40 meter sprint Plank Hold (Elbows and Toes only touch the ground, keep back straight) Left side Plank Right Side Plank Plank, Right leg off the ground Plank, Left leg off the Ground Push ups Push ups Crunches Crunches Leg Raises (Back on the ground at all times) That's pretty much what I can remember. I would only suggest doing this once a week, because the ground can do some damage to your elbows during the plank. On a track, your elbows may sting for a while, I suggest a soft surface that won't scrap your elbows up or make them sting (Grass for instance).
  10. Started my season to a good rhythm. Last Year I finished: 5:13 for a 1600 11:25 for the 3200 15' For Long Jump This year I started at... 5:10 for the 1600 11:23 for the 3200 15'6'' for LJ Hopefully trying out Triple Jump (~30'-~35' would be nice)
  11. Did 35 laps on the track in an hour. Just after finishing, I could hardly walk without staggering...
  12. I am the happiest I can possibly be so far in my life. Ran a 4:53 1500 Meter race. Best day of my LIFE
  13. Completed a goal that I've wanted to get done for a long time. I finally ran the 1500M race in under 5 minutes. 4:53 1500, I'm really happy that I finally borke that mental and physical barrier that as annoyed me. Now I have to do that for the 1600M
  14. Any other games getting it? If so, your Xbox may have problems with its DVD Drive.
  15. Mass Effect 2. Last Game I bought and Played.
  16. YOU CAN KILL PEOPLE WITH THE POWER TOOL!@!>>!?!@? *runs to xbox* And I thought killing with the defib was funny... Drilled to death  Oh the humiliation..... I remember doing that in the first one...Oh the fun times :XD:
  17. Bought a pair of Brand new LJ Spikes for 20 bucks. Best deal of my life.
  18. I Lol'd at that. I will have to try that. It sounds to funny not too :XD:
  19. I hope I can get my Xbox DVD drive repaired before the games come out. I might stretch it close though...

No need to post my picture now. I'll keep my end of the bet. Even though I was rooting for the Colts, I'm happy for the Saints. If anyone needed a Super Bowl win, it was them. As for the halftime show, I wasn't expecting any more than they gave. They're old, but they still rock as much as they can. No smashing of the guitar. Although they did get the "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" in during the last song with the windmill guitar move. However, no guitar smashing...mad the halftime show half pointless... They probably didn't want to pick up guitar shards from the field. True, but he could have done it in towards the stage. Either way, he might have hurt himself doing that since he's not in the shape he was when he did that.
  21. Track season started. Looking forward to going to Sectionals and hopefully State. Hopefully going to get Under 4:30 for the mile and 9:30 for the 2 mile. Also getting 17-18 feet for long jump. Not forgetting the awesome things that our coach said that will happen. CAN NOT FREAKING WAIT TILL THE SANCTIONED MEETS START!!!!@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
  22. You always include the bar. You are lifting the bar are you not? So why wouldn't you include it? And I've never talked to anyone who thought it was a good idea working out 6 times a week  But if you're getting results, you're getting results Working out that much is just the heighten risk for injury. The way to do it would be training Monday, Tuesday, Recovery/Very Easy Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Recovery Sunday. Working hard constantly over 6 days without rest is too much work on the muscles, which may lead to injuries. A reason why its always best to take 2 days rest if you plan on doing the two days of really hard work. If you want to have just 1 day, make sure half way through is something where it isn't working a sweat. Rest is probably the key most important factor in any training. If you don't rest, you get injured and your out for a while not doing much.
