7-Jan-2014 - Player-Owned Ports - The Next Journey
I haven't done the total math yet, but hopefully I will get everything. I didn't fail as many voyages as some did, and I don't think I ever lost any Cotta on repairs, and the adventurers were pretty generous, and I have had the bonus statues since the start almost. I should either get everything or be very close.

I have the ideal crew that was discussed earlier in the thread -- all except one last combat guy. Hopefully I can reroll that today. Then onto the rest of those ship upgrades.

I had only intended to stay for the Hilt, but my OCD got the best of me and I ended up staying for at least one of everything (ending up getting loads of Murmurs and Whispers, and even 2 Crossbows):

Very smart of you to get scrolls out of the way before The Loop. That is what I did as well (I succeeded as well). I definitely learned my lesson about scrolls from Ports V1.

What about the Armadyl crossbow? I don't really want it/care for it (besides I already got one a long time ago on the day of release). However, I have decided to do a few more trips, so I might end up getting it. Already got another Warpriest piece from KC, so who knows how much longer I will be there for.

Well this didn't take long at all: Also managed to get 2 Warpriest pieces. Was disappointed that I got it so early, perhaps I will stick around for full Warpriest. I already have the 3 necklaces (bought) and the SS so I wasn't really aiming for those as drops, but whatever.

Well, I was probably very lucky (I did bring ROW switch though - not sure what it does anymore, it's been changed so many times). As for whirlwinds/teleports, if you stand at a corner, they won't move you. Neat little trick if you didn't already know.

Legacy Mode
Except they never made any concessions at the start (and not any of the numerous ones that were reasonable). In the start, they just went "Nah, not listening, my way or the highway" and ignored dozens of suggestions and obvious things that could have greatly improved it and made it a lot more enjoyable and coherent. They did that for a whole year, and when the numbers didn't go as they expected, they went into the other extreme direction, which is "we will give all the people who didn't like EoC whatever they want", which is where we are now. If they have just listened from the start, we wouldn't be at this step, plenty of people wouldn't be alienated, and we would be much better off. I mean the whole point of EoC was to balance the triangle, and how long did we have drygore-scape for? Seismic-scape? Concentrated blast OP? Range being completely overwhelming. No Meta (then Sunshine) for Rangers. All perfectly obvious things which they waited MONTHS on before even acknowledging there was a problem -- some of them were only fixed quite literally a few weeks ago. Basically they were far too lazy, and incompetent and stubborn and it led to completely unbalanced combat, a lot less fun combat, and the markets being completely haywire as they would break things, let them stay broken for months, then fix them way after they had already conditioned the players to accept the broken state of gameplay (the best example of this is what happened to Seismics -- they were OP and 3B for how long? Something like 7 months, during which all the J Mods were basically in unison with th HLF and accused anyone who asked for a reasonable or balanced triangle that they were lazy Marxists who didn't want to "earn" their stuff. Then, BAM!, they decide in 2014 that they would completely flip the script, fix up range, nerf Mage, nerf Conc blast, and the markets are still recovering from this). Just complete sillyness and lazyness. It was a decent concept (not the best, but decent) that was ruined by sheering ineptitude.

Legacy Mode
Calling it 'pretty successful' from an 'objective point of view' is a pretty suspect thing to do. I like it, and it has made quite a few improvements, but financially it has not been successful, it has failed to generate a new player base or increase RS's popularity, it was criminally neglected by Jagex for quite a while (and a lot of suggestions were delayed or ignored), and several of its core aims (the primary one being to balance the triangle) were not achieved or were dramatic failures. Far from a 'success'.

Well I used to do God Wars hardcore back in the day when it was high-tier stuff (I believe I have gotten everything from there quite a few times, but it was so long ago, and rates have possibly changed since then); I hadn't really touched it since EoC came out (and even before that I had sort of shifted to Nex), so it was fun to sort of revisit this content. The only items that I actually remember vividly getting form minions is at Bandos (armour pieces) and Sara (sword from one of them), I think.

They have definitely been very neglectful of all the people who didn't like EoC (if they had accommodated them from the start, this wouldn't have been happening). Over all, though, it's not necessarily them regretting, as evidenced by how many RS3 players are against this, likely because they have grown to like EoC and don't want to see it undone -- so it's not regret. Rather, they are just trying to accommodate and reintegrate all the players they pissed off into the game. EoC did change the game, in some ways (particularly high level PVM) for the better, and I doubt Jagex regrets that (nor should they).

Nothing major, but after they announced the Combat Beta for special attacks, I decided it would be fun to solo all or rather most of the God Wars drops (the ones I didn't have; I sold/lost all of mine ages ago and never really bothered getting them back). Yes I am absolutely aware (and have been from the start) that the special attacks are worse than thresholds and the accuracy on these weapons is horrible, so I don't actually intend to use them; it's just something to do to break up the monotony of Voragoing and ROTS all day long. So I started with Armadyl; finally finished that: It took about 800 Armadyl boss kills to get one of each at least; none of the non-shards were from the minions (I guess they really are rare). I kept a log of all the notable drops just for fun. I did get multiples of quite a few drops (mostly boots), but I sold the excess copies, and the Elite Clues/Hard Clues were definitely fun to do even if the rewards were crap. Onwards to Sara!

One of my TC Merchants has the 'feeble' trait. I have 4 lifeboats; should I be worried? Are lifeboats consumed if they save someone?

Crashing fast! Of course. This was predicted and foreseen by everyone. No slayer drop, unless it has some obscene drop rate, will EVER be worthwhile in terms of its prices for very long because everyone and their mothers have 99 Slayer (well, not everyone, but a lot of people). It also doesn't help that everyone has a Mask of the Abyss.

Definitely looks like a delay. Especially with the suggestion that he is *now* just getting to it. Probably late March (translation: April).

Will they ever learn? :wall: If they ever really learned, we wouldn't be having a bonus weekend. Again what's the point of this? So in September Jagex can come back and say they have magically realized how worthless skills are, how devalued accomplishments have become, and then have another poll on prestige or some prestige-like system? Here's an idea: don't devalue skills/accomplishments in the first place, and then you won't have a messed up economy, community, and a need to make some sort of late fix!

Yep. I'm substituting a seafaring one for a wisp. Another good thing about the wisp is that it helps to train other crew. I haven't studied *all* the potential voyages yet, but I would thought replacing Morale would have been better as you still have the merchants, and (I think) there's still some sort of SF imbalance, though if there aren't as many good voyages for SF I guess that doesn't matter.

Yeah, it doesn't seem impossible I suppose. I was never one of the "send out empty scrolls, or whatever, kind of guy anyways". What about the ideal crew at end of Loop? I know there was discussion about it earlier but that was before we figured out the rate of increase in Terracotta.
-
7-Jan-2014 - Player-Owned Ports - The Next Journey
Hmm, so it might be worth it to pick up just one? What's the ideal crew at the end of Loop looking like now? --- Also, I know a lot of people already complained about this, but anyone else get annoyed the arbitrary level of difficulty added with the reduction in Terracotta? The barmaid voyage for example is less than may of the other regions, when before this, there was a clear increase for each region over the past one.

A lot of people, in game, seem to be buying Wisps. I thought they were pretty bad for Loop/Shield (and I thought this was established in this thread). Am I missing anything or is there any reason to get them? What are the useful triple voyages for Loop/Shield? I presume for double voyagoes, Wisps aren't really all that good?

I have personally spoken to mods on the ninja team and they can certainly be stubborn at times. That's really the only explanation.

That was the original plan, but I fear it might get delayed. And I would blame Legacy... Probably. Though they were way behind on quests even before Legacy and this Power to the Player stuff. Not only did 2013 only feature 5 quests (at least two of which were a major disappointment or not serious). According to Mod Mark we were supposed to get at least another 2 quests for the remainder of 2013 but that never happened.

What happened to the quest about Armadyl (Rite of Passage or whatever), and the one about the world gate, both of which were supposed to released last or by January by the latest? Not that a GM quest about Hannibus isn't interesting, I am quite excited for it, in fact. Does seem odd though. We are also supposed to get a Zaros GM quest next month, hopefully, they won't use this GM quest as an excuse to bump that one.

Tip.It Times - 2nd February 2014
You may be an older player, but you certainly don't seem to represent their interests well. A few points: -When I said it "won't work", I was trying imply it won't work as Jagex intends it to. That doesn't mean it won't accomplish anything. EoC doesn't 'work' as it was intended to either (the combat triangle, which EoC was supposed to balance, is still hideously broken), and yet I don't see you calling for it to be scrapped. -Your attitude that "people should adapt" is absurd. Not every change is positive, so not every change should be adapted to. Your argument presupposes that every change is good and should simply be accepted - that's a very odd argument to say the least. There are a lot of people that don't like the changes, and I don't see why they should simply accept these changes just because "change is always good". -The complaint that EoC killed PVP is absolutely and unequivocally true. At least if you are playing EoC, that is. PvP in EoC is universally regarded to be dead (just go and see the wildness, the state of PvP clans, minigames, wars, etc. all of which were very lively before EoC). It's regarded to be needlessly complicated, the global cooldown has killed hybriding, there are no good welfare weapons/armour anymore, almost no one does it, devotion is hideously overpowered in PVP, stuns are very annoying. Everyone know this. I don't see how you could possibly dispute this. These are all uncontroversial facts that you cannot deny. -As for polls being fake, that's ridiculous. Just because we all know in advance which option will win in a week does not mean the poll is fake. All it means is that one option is massively popular. Sometimes in a poll or a choice, one option is just massively more popular than the other, that's just how it rolls. It has nothing to do with fakeness. The community, wrongly or rightly, has spoken on this issue and spoken pretty clearly. And maybe this is how Jagex was hoping we would vote, so what? That doesn't make the poll fake, it just means that Jagex happens to agree with the player-base on the direction of the poll. Calling it fake just because the option you don't favour is winning, and winning handedly, is a pretty sour attitude to take. -Well, Jagex already stated that not everything, specifically the SOF, would be put up for a vote. (Though, somewhat amusingly, they also said that about EoC but seem to have changed their tune).
