Wow, I posted this study as a joke and to point out that global climate is just so complex that there is no way we could possibly predict what will happen unless we had about a million more years of climate data. I agree that cutting carbon emissions (especially CFC's) is a good idea, but people like Al Gore with his "An Inconvenient Truth" piss me off. Just about ever scientist you will find believes in global warming. Without it we would never have gotten out of any of the ice ages. But to say that we are causing massive global warming that will result in the complete destructing of the polar ice caps and flood a third of out land mass is just moronic. There was even one period in time in which global average temperature rose about 6̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâúC in a decade. That 100 times faster than the rate today. And look outside, the world is still here and we are still alive. Big surprise. The Earth has away of balancing itself out. Admittedly we are screwing up with all of our emissions, but to make all of the changes that the environmentalists want would cost approximately $300 billion in the United States alone. I'm all for using compact flourescent bulbs rather than incandescent, but not all of us can afford to own a car run on old fry oil from McDonalds. All I wanted to say is that many of the offered solutions are impractical to the average person today.

I heard on the radio today that there was a climate study done by extracting mud from a lake in western Canada. The evidence shows that approximately every 200 years the sun goes through a weak period resulting in cooler temperatures here on Earth. You know what this means don't you? All of us not car pooling and driving hummers aren't contributing to global warming. We're fighting global cooling. You can thank me later. EDIT: Just for reference here is a link to a news release talking about it: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1854952/posts

I believe in God, but don't use the "He can't be disproven either" reason. Under that logic, these people are justified. http://www.venganza.org/

To start, sorry for pointing you out Satenza, you were just the first person I saw talking about life's purpose. And now onto my point. For starters, none of us know what the point of life is(unless we have achieved nirvana, but that whould make that person the buddah and unless I'm mistaken, s/he is not an active member of these forums.) As far as I'm concerned you are correct about the point of life. Make things as good as you can while you are alive. But maybe the point of life is to glorify God. Maybe the point is to eat as much cottage cheese as possible. Maybe there isn't a point. I personally think we should just do the best we can. Notice I said think not believe. I didn't generally like the movie Dogma, but one thing I did enjoy is that it advocated having ideas rather than beliefs. Its easier to change an idea than a belief. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I think the point is to be as good a person as possible, but if I'm wrong I'll probably never know. Just the same as most of us will never know if what we think/believe is correct. May as well be the best person you can, not for fear of the afterlife, but because you can help make someone's day/week/life better. Even if everything else in the entire Bible is wrong I know in my heart, mind, and soul that this much should be followed: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you I don't really see the point in arguing. All it does is gets us upset at each other. We should all think what we want and follow our own morals and values rather than trying to force our own on others.

I told my crappy guidance councilor that I was gay when I was in the middle of a mental breakdown. She threatened to tell my parents cause she thought I was suicidal (wtf gay does not = suicidal). Anyway, I told that she should "stop trying to ruin my [bleep]ing life" I then proceeded to inform her that it was illegal for her to tell my parents information that I told her in confidence and if she did happen to tell them I'd have her job. She asked me the next morning in homeroom if she could talk to me. I told her told she couldn't. I haven't spoken to her since. I found out the password to bypass our school's filtering and proceeded to spread it to all of my friends. They changed it because they found out that we knew the pass, but it never got traced back to me. I hung out on the roof with a few friends and their paintball guns when we found out that a rival school was gonna trash ours before a soccer game. That was fun. I broke into these underground tunnels we have in our school and found out that they lead into the jr high across the street. We annoyed a teacher so much that she had to quit mid-year due to "stress related disorders" And yet in my entire school career I've only ever had one detention cause I refused to get my hair cut 3 days before I finished 8th grade.

New crystal bow/shield prices! (Not with seeds)
Nitramosma replied to Tomth3bom's topic in Help and Advice
Actually you can only sell the new ones that you buy for 900k. You cannot sell ones that you recharge to other players. The Elf who recharges says something like once she recharges it, it is tuned to your song so only you can use it until it becomes a seed again. -
I actually agree with the idea of a gun to every person. Some here claim that if guns were banned and people had to resort to knives and bats and other such objects then they would only be able to take out one or two people. Well isn't that the same as if everyone had a gun? Guy shoots two people, then gets shot by a third. Shooter dead, Problem solved. I understand that it isn't that simple and that a loss a life is never a desirable situation, but I think more guns would actually reduce crime as in Switzerland and that city and Georgia. Also I know its easy to say a kid snaps from being bullied and goes home and grabs a gun to shoot his tormentors, but the real problems here seem to be the large number of bullies and the lack of gun security. The main issue I have here is the bullies. Everyone in a school knows who the bullies are and who gets bullied frequently, but no one does anything. I've even heard many cases of adults or teachers knowing about this and not doing. I think fixing society's problems is the permanent solution to the temporary fix of banning guns. For every person that shoots someone in a rage, there are probably tens of thousands or even more people who use firearms completely responsibly and they do not deserve to lose that right.
-
I don't think guns should be banned, but your are all right in that there needs to be much tighter regulation on them. I would hazard a guess that the main problem with banning guns isn't actually the 2nd amendment like most would believe, but groups like the NRA which have billions of dollars at their disposal, and if anyone tries to get harsher regulations they will just come up with some bogus study saying that guns themselves are not a contributing factor in the violent mindset. I'm not saying we shouldn't try to regulate them, but there will be major roadblocks in any regulations designed to restrict gun sales/use. On the topic of the shooting itself, this is a terrible tragedy and I hope that we won't see any more like it for a long time. I'm very glad that you are safe mage.

Windows XP to be discontinued in early 2008
Nitramosma replied to Talal28's topic in Tech and Computers
Everything I've seen from Vista simple doesn't justify upgrading at this time. I plan on switching to Mac with my next computer unless I see something spectacular from Vista in the next 6 months or so (when I say spectacular I mean a few great features that weren't already incorporated into the last release of OS X). I've wanted to switch for ages and this is just the final display of Microsoft's arrogance to their customers' needs that pushed me over the edge. -
My gaydar is actually 5/6. I think the one I missed was just sending mixed signals. That only includes guys that I've attempted to hit on in some way or another.

I hope they don't get arrested. Then they'll start blaming homosexuals for the loss of free speech (even though hate speech isn't covered by free speech)

So homosexuals are morally bad now eh? I wasn't talking about homosexuality being bad assassin said harmful things in the media, and my point is homosexuality can be harmful. Howso? Because hardcore Christians persecute them for it? No not only Christians nearly all religions oppose it, and ever heard of homophobes, and if you read this thread there are people here saying they would happily beat one up just because of who they are and their sexual orientation.. You do realize that under your logic I could say there shouldn't be any Jews because of antisemitism? Or that all black people should bleach their skin like Michael Jackson because there is racism. You don't hide from what you are and you shouldn't be ashamed of it. And to your example of bad role models look at people like Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears. I think before we persecute homosexuals for destroying moral standards, maybe we should go after the people who go out and have rampant sexual encounters with numerous people. I personally think Ellen DeGeneres is a much better role model than Paris Hilton, but which one is gay?

I heard they drive atop the hopes and dreams of small American children. True story? Nope, they just drive atop the corpses of those who oppose the president.

In venezuela gas cost only like $.25-.30 / gallon because they have so much of their own oil. Unfortunately they have almost no road system.
-
I suppose I could, but do you find the thought of having a sexual relationship with a male physically repulsive? If not, then how can your rant so loudly againly homosexuality. If yes, then you realize how I feel about haveing a sexual relationship with a woman. It is unnatural to me. I could just go sleep with hot chicks, but seeing as you are arguing the Christian perspective, that is immoral as well as sex before marriage is also a sin.

When you say we have a messed up world view, how do you mean? Is it any more messed up than people who would rather that we die and burn eternally in hell rather than mess up their perfect world? I would love to be heterosexual, but I can't. That doesn't mean I have a messed up worldview. It just means that I am who I am. I think you might me refering to those homosexuals who force their choice on everyone and tell them that they have to be ok with it, but I am not like that. If someone hates me for who I am thats fine. Please don't make blanket generalizations about a specific group of people. It isn't very Christian.

I plotted with a friend of mine the most painful/damaging way possible to kill our A.P. Chem teacher. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr........

One poll I read (can't remember where) claimed that 1.8% of men claim to be completely homosexual (not bisexual) and 2.6% of women. I didn't really have a response to your comment, I just wanted to get those numbers out there.
-
To get an answer to this you would have to ask one of those people that isn't homosexual anymore and ask them if they are happy about it or if it causes them pain. I think saying they *might* become rapists while having no facts to prove such is kind of using scare tactics to further your side. You gave a mature and respectful response otherwise so you probably didn't realize what you were conveying with that comment. I guess what I would say in response to your post would be to find some hard data to support your position instead of just throwing out a lot of "what if's". I think the studies just haven't been done to support my position. It's very possible, that every ex-gay goes on to become a wonderful contribution to the community, but I don't believe its true mainly because in the cases in which it is genetic (there is very strong evidence in favor of this, so I'll assume just for this situation that its true) and someone is changed that would be the equivalent of a heterosexual person living life as a homosexual. They will not be happy and they will not lead a fulfilling life. True they may not become rapists or they may not even have any problems whatsoever, but to me it seems like unless the person is genuinely unhappy with their current lifestyle and they are not harming anyone, then there is no immediate need for change so why risk the possibility that it could cause long-term psyoilogical damage? I think that if it is a voluntary program, then people may do as they please. The main ones I have problems with is the camps that parents of gay children are strongly encouraged to send their kids to. Forcing a sexual identity on someone is the same as any other kind of abuse to a person's mind, only this time it can be "justified" by the owners of these camps because it is a religious practice.

This statement has nothing to do with the discussion. You cannot turn a black man white, you cannot turn a guy into a girl. What you can do is disguise them as such but genetically they are still a black man and a guy. I also fail to see the relevance a kidney transplant has on the topic. Saying a person should be praised for something you say they have no control over is a funny thing to me. I always thought praise should be reserved for something that at least took a LITTLE effort... :P Oddly enough, most studies suggest that homosexual tendencies are mostly biological. And on the praise thing, I think when people say that homosexuals should be praised, they don't mean just for being gay, but for being able to face all the negative light on homosexuality from fundamentalist Christians and the far right (odd for a conservative to say this). I personally don't want any praise just because I have the courage to openly say that I'm gay. (Gifts and donations will suffice in place of praise. :D )
