Actually to be perfectly correct, there are lots of people who know the plot. British editor, American editor, the guy who does the audio book reading, JK's husband, and a few others. But in essence your point is still valid. Please stop speculating.

What I find funny is everyone is up in arms that Scooter Libby got his prison sentence commuted, but no one cares that we never even tried the guy who actually leaked her identity(they know who it is with 100% certainty). Also she was supposed to be an undercover agent, but from what I hear she really sucked at that anyway and there were lots of people close to finding out about her anyway.

The smoking ban in England, 1st July, Bye bye cancer-sticks.
Nitramosma replied to ThoseTheBrokes's topic in Off-Topic
Ohio recently passed a smoking ban too. It's been so great since that happened. Mainly where I was working at the time. The break room was always filled with 3-4 people smoking so I couldn't even go in there without choking. -
To start let me say that I haven't seen the video (grrrrr Dial-up). Anyway I think from what I've seen (which is mainly that one picture) and heard, the manner of the arrest was probably unnecessary given the age/sex/size of the offenders, but I do believe that the police officer was perfectly within his rights to arrest them in the first place. Skateboarding in that place was illegal and whether laws are justified or not we are still obliged to follow them. My guess would be that the police department decided to take a zero-tolerance policy on skateboarding for that day because they heard of a skate day being planned. The kids should not have run from/resisted the officer. The officer didn't handle the situation in the best possible manner. Final point: When you break laws, you can be arrested.

1) Infinite, permanent wisdom/knowledge. 2) The ability to change my physical form at will with no effect on the wisdom /knowledge obtained from wish one. 3) Immortality I've thought about these for a long time despite the fact that I will never get 3 wishes.

So doesn't this contradict your view that humans aren't causing global warming? We apparently have insignificant data to say that we are, but you reckon it's ok to say that we're not. Choose who's side you're on mate. I've been saying all along that catastrophic global climate not only isn't human influenced, but doesn't exist. Even the data that we have doesn't support the theory of human influenced global warming. But even if it did there's a problem on both sides. The amount of data we have is miniscule in proportion to the amount we'd need to be sure of anything. I can safely say that something doesn't exist isn't influenced by humans. Btw Your logic doesn't make sense in the first place. I have insignificant data to say that unicorn aren't going to trample me to death, but its a pretty safe bet that won't happen.

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-age-of-earth.html http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/geotime/age.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_the_Earth The generally accepted scientific age of the Earth is indeed 4.5-4.6 Billion years.

Happy Birthday dude. Any cool Presents?

I bet if you look in your student handbook there will be something to the extent of this: "The administration has the right to make the final call on all matters which ultimately affect the learning environment or the school mission." Its called the elastic clause and it gives the school the right to do pretty much whatever they want as long as they believe it is in the school as a whole's best interest. Get over it. Besides, its not like they gave him detention or suspension. They just told him to go home on his last day. Most people would be happy to start summer vacation one day early.

I don't believe humans are the main cause of global warming. I hate how we have a few years (4-6 thousand) of accurate climate data and people assume that we know everything about global climate. Here's a hint. Earth is about 4.6 billion years old. That means we have about .00013% of the climate data from the Earth's existence. Seems insignificant doesn't it? Because it is.

Actually they tested that one on Mythbusters. They put Adam's arm in a tube full of them. Their fangs are long enough to puncture human skin. He had bites all over his arm. But more importantly, he didn't die or get sick or anything, so no on the venom as well.

It all comes down to what is socially acceptable. Girls are allowed to pierced ears, but in some places guys aren't. The one thing that does bother me is the implications in sports teams. If a girl wants to play football and there is no girls football team she has to be allowed onto the guys team (assuming she is good enough that she doesn't get cut), but if a guy wants to play volleyball and there is no guys volleyball team he is not allowed on the girls team. I understand there are differences in strength, height, etc, but there is definitely a double standard in not only our schools, but society in general. Maybe society believes that by letting women be treated more like men they are allowing them to become more "equal" as a person. Thus, the reason women are allowed to join male sports teams. Nobody wants to be sexist to somebody who didn't have those rights before. Judging by the way you put equal in quotation marks you probably agree with my stance on this. There are certain physical differences between men and women that will always prevent them from being completely "equal." One quick one of the top of my head is that women have children. I know not all women and I'm not saying that we should discriminate against mothers, but realistically in the workplace if one person is there for 12 months in a year and one is gone for 2-4 months (I don't really now how long women miss for being pregnant) who do you think will get an available promotion. And then all the Femi-nazi women complain that the woman with the baby was treated unfairly. Went off on a tangent there. Sorry. My point being that there are certain differences that mean women can do some things that men can and vice versa and people need to learn to accept that.

I seem to defy all the normal fears. I love snakes. I love spiders. I actually plan on getting a pet tarantula once I'm not living in a college dorm. But I think fear of them generally is a combination of societal portrayal and size. Most people I know who dislike spiders dislike them because they are all over the place, but you don't notice them most of the time, so they can get very close to you with out your knowledge.

What it comes down to is that school administrators can do pretty much whatever they want regarding dress code and as long as they can reasonable justify that it is a safety hazard or that it interferes with the learning environment they are in the right. People claim that since it is a public institution that we are required to attend that we should have all of our rights intact, but the reality of it is that there is a significant interest on that part of school officials in keeping a healthy environment. I agree with the officials who made your friend change. It was a stunt that probably detracted from others ability to learn.

I've never gotten the results in number form (they don't tell you from the Mensa test) but I did get into Mensa, which means its in the top 2%. I haven't done it yet, but next year I plan on taking the test for the triple 9 association to see it I could get in. I doubt I will though.

I'm with all the others who say that it would make for a distracting learning environment. Just be glad you don't go to a school with a uniform like I did.

Who are your favorite and least favorite US president(s)?
Nitramosma replied to FrancisRune83's topic in Off-Topic
Teddy Roosevelt is probably my favorite. Probably almost solely for the Great White Fleet. I have a few that I dislike. but I'm not prone to passing judgment on others in situations that I couldn't possibly imagine handling. -
Yes. Carbon levels have been rising. Yes. Average global temperature has been rising. But there are two things that are often neglected. One: Is there a causal link? Check out this shocking bit of evidence. Oh my gosh....WE ALL NEED TO BECOME PIRATES TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING. Or....it could be that there is no link, just as there isn't one with carbon emissions and global average temp. The other thing that people seem to assume is that we have a significant effect on the carbon in the atmosphere in the first place. Generally there are large ammounts of carbon in the atmosphere shortly after an ice age and in the grand scale of the earth the last ice age was fairly recent. Frankly, I've never seen anything that proves to me that there are two things: 1)SIGNIFICANT global climate change and 2) Human influence in the climate change that has been seen.

I'm partial to Lewis Black. Most of his stuff is amaznig, but highly inappropriate for younger audiences. :shame:

I think my Harry Potter book has JK ROWLING'S SIGNATURE(pic)

I wasn't saying its impossible...just unlikely. Either way I wouldn't sell it. Its still a cool piece of Potter history. -
I think my Harry Potter book has JK ROWLING'S SIGNATURE(pic)
Nitramosma replied to Abelmisi's topic in Off-Topic
The fact that the book is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban most likely points to the signature being fake. JKR only signed books for charity and a few other very rare cases up until the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. So unless someone got it signed in the last few years and then gave it to the library, then they in turn sold it in a rollout sale, then it is unlikely. The sad fact is that probably somewhere around 90-95% of the "signed" Harry Potter books are fakes from people on eBay wanting to make a quick buck off of people who are excited by these amazing stories. -
The main thing that scares me about Hilary is that I'm going to Rochester, New York for college this fall. She is going to be one of my senators :x There is no way in hell that that crazy woman would get elected for president. I'd be quite shocked if she even got the Democratic party's nomination. I think the democrats will pick someone more sensible. As far as Republicans go, I think either Guiliani (sp) or McCain will be the nominee. Personally, I want Guiliani for president.

You're also forgetting the being Jewish is not only a religion, but also a nationality. It's perfectly possible that the Nazi's hated Jews as race rather than a religion.
