My thoughts in bulk: - I think governments have to understand that even if something is wrong, sometimes prohibiting its use doesn't necessarily solve the problem. This applies to drugs and piracy, perhaps amongst other things. - Perhaps if people in Asia had access to legal and fairly priced means of buying music, piracy wouldn't be as much of a problem. iTunes only serves about 15% of the world's population, as of May 5, 2010, and that's counting anyone in a country where it's available. Cut out the ones who are "struggling to make ends meet" and you're left with about 8% of the world*. There's a huge untapped market in the East. - Megaupload users should have been given fair warning. - Remember the whole "Home taping is killing music" thing, and how that coincided with an economic crisis? And how the radio was the bane of the music industry in the late 1920s/early 1930s? And how we're currently in the same kind of financial quagmire? And how the dip in music sales start before Napster did? Because music is not really a necessary purchase, it's the first thing to go when people don't have any money. - Speaking of that "Home taping is killing music" thing, turns out home tapers were actually the people who bought the most music, as reported by court-ordered research. The same thing applies to downloaders. This is anecdotal, but I download a heck of a lot of music, hadn't I had that chance, I actually wouldn't be into music and I wouldn't have bought anything at all or gone to any shows. When I come across quality, I recognize it, and I try to pay for it, or at least to turn other people onto it. - If the music industry wants to protect artists, why does this happen? - If Bandcamp's doing very well while taking only 10-15% of all artists' revenue (compare to figures at the end of the last article), why can't record companies? I could go on for 15 pages, since that's approximately the length of the paper I handed in last year, and I realized I've digressed quite a bit already. You get my point though--the MPAA, RIAA, et al are untrustworthy, and the way they act doesn't jive with the way they speak. Piracy is inevitable; they should focus on what they can change. *I know, this article is a pain to read through.

FL has a really quick learning curve. Its piano roll is especially good, so if you can't play the keys or aren't comfortable with a staff, riff input is easy. Its defaults synths aren't particularly good, but that's where you come in; its time signature support is no good, but you probably won't be doing anything too complicated on that front. You'll also want to check out Ableton. Your best bet is to get all three and give each of them a shot. You can run FL as an instrument inside Ableton and Reason, so if you do go down that route I would suggest working with FL first so that you can keep working on something you started in either Ableton or Reason, since the files won't be compatible otherwise. If you go for FL and you have any questions, shoot me a PM.

There's surely less wrong with taking it slow than with rushing it, and if this is truly because this isn't the kind of "later" that means "never", then it's not a commitment issue; in fact, it sounds a lot more like a good way to prevent one.

It started in mines near Manchester, where girls were forced to put on pants in order to work. This was still considered a scandal. During World War One, women worked at factories and found pants more practical and durable than skirts. Same thing happened during World War Two. Also, women's fashion is constantly taking ideas from menswear and adapting them, but the opposite doesn't really happen (there was/is a skirt thing going on not long ago, though). I'm seeing a lot of shrunken elbow patches and penny loafer/flat hybrids on girls, at the moment, and same trends cropped up not long ago amongst men (except the elbow patches were big and thick and the penny loafers wre penny loafers). Not long ago, tiny wingtips were all over the place. YSL created a tuxedo for women. Marilyn wore jeans... the list goes on. Women wearing pants

I agree, I'm not sure what to make of the new Justice album. I'm listening to it again, and I'm at Civilization right now. The production is what bothers me most about the whole thing, I think. I don't like the flanged drone things on this song at all, sounds too muddy. I like Ohio, wish there was a little less sidechain to it, and less hiss to the vocals... neat drums. Canon (Primo) reminds me of that interlude track on Master of Reality by Black Sabbath, but even more baroque/medieval. Canon isn't what I wanted it to be at all (I wanted it to be like Canon (Primo)), it's quite noisy. On'n'on is nice, the recorded drums are cool here, Gaspard's flute is sweet too (it sounds almost like a synth actually, but really what would be the point of using a synth). Great kick on Brianvision. Reminescent of Planisphere, except it's even more dissonant. Probably not going to listen to this much.

Drink more and then write your paper. Writing things while drunk works out great in the end. I wrote that love letter to my girlfriend when I was really drunk, and it was so good it made her cry. Write something so good that it'll bring your teacher to tears. :shades: Got my best grade in English class on something I wrote drunk. It probably didn't make my teacher cry because she was as dry as a dead dingo's donger, as they say, but it was still the equivalent of a 114%, when I averaged somewhere around 86%.

Tail smacks the ground, launching the board vertically and causing it to rotate (this is also what happens when you pop your tail while standing behind your board in order to catch it). In order to flatten out the board, your front foot slides up on the grip (with your small toe, as your sole wouldn't slide easily enough). Originally, you didn't need to pop, and pretty much relied on your back foot to raise the nose a bit, then on your front foot to raise the tail while your nose is still in mid-air. Now, people pop because the first part of the trick already launches you up. Also, you don't want to get in the way of your skateboard. Suck your knees up to let the board go as high as it can.

Every guru was once a newb, Tim. Don't be embarrassed to ask. I was at the skatepark with a friend a few years ago (must have been 13 at the time). This 30 year-old ex-skater showed up and asked the kids half his age to help him learn to ollie again, and learn to ollie again he did. As long as you're friendly, modest about your present abilities and positive about your development, in whatever you do, people won't refuse to help you.
