I'm so glad I don't DM/GM anymore. Shit was stressful. I ran Storm Kings Thunder[5e] for about 18 months after my OC campaign[also 5e] fell apart after 6 months. Playing with the wrong people can be rough, you gotta feel out what works. Talking out of game to a player can ruin a whole game, but using the game to manipulate the situation is exactly what your duty is as DM. At some point you may have to slightly adjust the game you're running to accommodate the players so that they all enjoy their time playing
