  5. Ultimate AVG Anti-Virus Guide Firstly AVG Is a free and grate anti virus for new and old computers. Anti-Virus Software is a must have to protect your passwords and other information you have on your computer. This guide is going to tell you how to download and use AVG Anti-Virus 1. Downloading The Software. 2. Installing The Software. 3. Scaning your computer and downloads. 4. Updates. 5. Congrats you now know how to use avg and your computer is protected. Start. Step 1. You must download AVG Anti-Virus Via This Link: Avg Link Step 2 How to install the software. After You downloaded avg from the link above you will have the avg installer in the file you saved it too go to there and open it. When you opend the link click run this will start the install. Go thro the installer fill in and do what it asks then avg will be fully installed after this prosses. step 3. How to scan your computer and downloads for virus Go to the avg icon and click it. Click "Control Centre" This is the main bit to scan your computer click scan. If you do get any virus it will be automaticly moved to the virus volt and locked away so its not in your computer. Thats how you scan your computer I suggest do this once a week to be safe. When you download somthing of the web e.g Pking Video after its hit 100% Dont click Open click cancel. Then go to were the file would of saved right click it scan it to see if it has any virus step 4. How to keep updated. To update AVG, once you have it installed, is very easy. Look at the system tray (next to the Clock) and you will see the AVG icon which is either Gray or in Colour. A gray AVG icon means AVG has not been updated for a while and is really in need of an update, whereas a colour AVG icon normally means AVG is either up-to-date as of now or has not been updated within the last couple of days or so. Right click on the AVG icon and a menu will appear With the mouse pointer highlight the Check For Updates menu-item and then select it by clicking the Left Mouse Button. This will take you to the Update window. Right-click on the AVG icon and a menu will appear Highlight the Check For Updates menu-item and then select it with a Left-click The Update window - Click on the INTERNET button. With the Update window displayed simply left click on the INTERNET button. If your main internet connection is on AVG will make an extended internet connection to its computer, from your computer, in order to download any updated Virus Definition Files it may have available. A Virus Definition File is a file (database) that tells an Anti-Virus program (such as AVG) how to identify and cure known viruses, as well as how to identify and hopefully cure newly written viruses based on history cases. AVG also has Update files that contain instructions for AVG itself as well as instructions on how to better protect your files (Emails, Data Files and so on) in general. If you do not make regular checks for updated Virus Definition Files (and Update files) your Anti-Virus program will not be aware of future virus dangers and therefore will not be able to protect your files. The INTERNET button means you want AVG to check for updated Virus Definition Files (and Update files) using an Extended Internet Connection to its computer. And the FOLDER button means you already have a Virus Definition File, and/or Update file(s), stored inside a folder that you want AVG to check.....to see if it is up-to-date or too old. The FOLDER option is for advanced users who download their Virus Definition Files, and/or Update file(s), from an Internet Cafe for example. AVG is making an Extended Internet Connection to its computer AVG has connected to its computer and found an Update (Virus Definition) File If AVG was able to connect to its AVG Computer. AVG then searches its AVG Computer for any newly created Virus Definition Files and Update files (put there by the AVG programmers). If it finds any it notifies you by listing each update in the AVG update window (Fig 1.5 above). You then have a choice. Click on the UPDATE button to start downloading the selected update file. Click on the More Information button to find out more about the selected update. Or click on the CLOSE button because you do not want to download any update files. In this example I will click on the UPDATE button. AVG is now downloading, onto my computer, the Priority Update file. Download Complete. AVG is now updating itself with new Virus Information/Instructions. Update Complete. Click on the OK button. After clicking on the UPDATE button and letting the selected update file download and install itself you then click on the OK button ignoring the timer, to finish the update procedure. You must repeat the above update procedure for each update file listed in AVG's updates window. Now that AVG knows about the current virus threats it will know how to stop certain viruses from getting onto the computer and how to deal with those viruses that got past the old Virus Definition Files.....but hopefully not past any newly updated Virus Definition File(s). Protection software that needs an update file can only deal with past threats and guess how to deal with new threats (based upon patterns of behaviour and so on), but they cannot actually prevent every type of future threat. Hence why, in order to reduce the risk of infection, it is important to be up-to-date with Definition Files. Step 5. Congratz Your Computer Is Now Protected.
