Today...
I never get to see the movies I want to see. Today I got dragged into seeing Narnia: The Dawn Treader despite better options (True Grit, The King's Speech, even The Green Hornet). It wasn't very good. Last time this happened I ended up seeing Megamind rather than Red. It wasn't very good. I'm sensing a pattern....

Building a gaming computer
Not for $1200. MOTHERBOARD: MSI X58 Pro-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $179.99 GFX: DIAMOND 5770PE51G Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card $149.99 RAM: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ $66.99 CPU: Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950 $294.99 PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply - $69.99 CASE: This is really up to you, but hers an Antec 900 for you -$99.99 HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $39.99 Total comes to $901.93. I have to say, I don't really know the difference between AMD and Intel Processors. i7-950 is 3.06GHz quad core, whereas you can get an AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz for $99.99...? But yeah, that give you $300 to play around with for monitor+keyboard+mouse+os. Do forgive me if I've missd anything from the list... :P Hiss. Intel is generally higher quality. There may be specific things that lead to such, but that's the generality of it. For a medium sized budget (say, $1200), AMD is good because you'll get the power for cheaper, even if it's slightly less reliable. For something really high-end, you'd best be shooting for an i7. I use an AMD Phenom II x4 (Black Edition), and I haven't had any problems (at least, nothing seemingly related to my processor). Oh, and an OS (Windows) and monitor will probably sum up to close or past $300.

Building a gaming computer
Not for $1200. Firstly, we should know how seriously you want to game with this pc. Do you want something massive that can play the games of the future faster than your brain (high-end)? Or do you want something that's pretty mindblowing for a newbie, but defintely can upgrade (midrange). Because you won't get high end for $1200. Midrange will be fine to play everything you want to play without any real problems, even if it's not at the absolute max settings. I had around the same budget, and got something like this (I can get specifics later, for parts and price, if you really want them). It's a midrange pc, and the most effort I've put on it so far is Bad Company 2 - which it handles quite smoothly and quietly: (From Newegg:) GIGABYTE MOBO $120 AMD 4-core Phenom II (3.4ghz) $130 RADEON HD 5770 $150 650W PSU $80 4GB DDR3 RAM $100 Case $20 500gb HDD $60? Optical Drive $20 (From local Bestbuy:) 21.5in Monitor $180 Logitech K120 keyboard (Bestbuy didn't have this, actually - Office Max) $20 Game and Headset $40 I came close to $1200 (I forget my actual total and I prefer not to think about it. And I didn't add the above numbers.) - and I didn't pay for Windows (another $100) or a mouse or speakers. Here's my tips: Buy what you can locally - monitors and keyboards will usually be cheaper and just as good. Don't go for an i7 processor unless you want to seriously up your budget. AMD is fine for midrange, unless you want to stretch a little for an i5. 4gb of RAM is enough. If you need more, get more. Get a surplus of Power in your PSU. If you calculate 500W necesary, get 600W (I think Newegg's calculator said I would need maybe 400W). That's all I can think of atm.... I may have forgotten something, I'm not an expert =P

Pre paid Visa credit cards?
Yep. They're hella useful though. You can use it in the same way you would a credit card - online or in-store. You can fill it up at a store (mine's from AAA), with a small activation fee. The only real con is that you can't find out how much is on your card. If you don't have enough for a purchase, it will be rejected. Just make sure there isn't any fine print that will screw you over. I know there's an inactivity fee, but you can easily exchange the card for equal cash.

Today...
Just came back from a party. Lots of dancing with one girl in particular... some very close up dancing, a few instances of her taking my hands and stuff (oh, and some other irrelevent party business). So... I think I'm gonna try and make something happen? Edit: Something is definitely happening =) Senior girlfriend? =)

What are you listening to right now!?
The Sweetest Curse by Baronness. Contemplating whether or not to to buy the album (Blue Record). So far it sounds better than Red Album :-k

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Suspended
I'm gonna take a guess and assume that doesn't change anything in-game right? Only where the file downloads from? Dumb question, but I'd like to be sure. Also, will I have to restart the download?

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Suspended
Can you elaborate this for me? I seemed to have the game working when I reinstalled the wntire thing, but then it got stuck 1.8mb through a 2.4mb install. I'm downloading it AGAIN now... -.-

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Suspended
I'm redownloading the game now, because it still wasn't working. It says it's installing 10.6gb worth of stuff, but as I recall the game is about 8 max (It said I would need 7.8 to put it on my pc). What's going on?!?! EDIT: It suspended again, about 2gb through. It seems to have started up again though...

Thinking of Buying a Cello...
And I was wondering what people might think of this deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/4-4-Adult-size-CELLO-w-BOW-CASE-STAND-WARRANTY_W0QQitemZ350362381805QQcategoryZ10178QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5678762924618804881 My cousin says it's probably a good deal, and she's played for a long while, but I'd like to get extra opinions. Thanks!

What book are you currently reading?
I've only read The Dark Tower series by King. It was good overall, but it definitely had its low points. 1st book good, 2nd great, 3rd meh, 4th backstory, 5th pretty boring, 6th meh, 7th pretty good. Hell of an ending, as well. My mom (a big reader) recommends The Stand. Whenever Stephen King comes up, she always avidly suggests that one.

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Suspended
I don't think the servers should prove THIS much of a problem. I'm downloading in rare bytes at a time. 2 hours for 216 bytes? Also, I think that the update restarts when I restart my computer, then stops at the same point (24.6mb)...

I has a hardrive
When you put the HDD in, your computer should still boot Vista. You can change the order of boot attempts in BIOS, so if it doesn't work, or you want to switch to XP, you should be able to do it and keep all of your files I would imagine. Anyways, if you have two OSs on a hard drive you have to select the one you want to boot. Then just open it and delete the extra stuff, I guess.

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Suspended
It is on Steam (PC). Playing it says the game is unavailable, try later. Resume all does nothing, because technically I guess it isn't paused. Clicking pause - resume flashes the word updating before going right back to Suspended... I'll try restarting my pc (translation: I'm going to bed, tomorrow when I turn my pc back on I'll see if anything is different).

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Suspended
My update for Left 4 Dead 2 has been in a state of frozenness for I think a few days now. Any ideas as to why? There's 24.6 out of 25.2 mb installed, but the download now says "Suspended." Pausing and resuming leads no results, and trying to launch the game tells me that it is currently unavailable. Help Please thanks!

What is your favorite Internet browser?
Since I've gotten my new pc, I've only used IE. I'm too lazy to download Firefox again, although I liked being able to customize it, and I recall it as being faster than IE, not counting the long start time... I've used Chrome, and it's ok. Took a little time to get used to though. In the end, the internet is the internet.

Need a new PC, couple ideas.
Hmm, I think you'll be able to get away with a prebuilt from Dell or such that will meet your needs, especially if you don't plan to game more than RS (Idk what Sony Vegas is though... isn't that a phone?) The pc you have there has way more RAM than you'll ever need, which is upping it's price I think. 4gb is really the most you'll need unless you really want to work your computer. Also, there's no monitor or OS, which is at least another $250 or more. Here's one I found on Dell: http://www.dell.com/us/p/studio-xps-8100/pd?oc=dxdonp1&model_id=studio-xps-8100 It's still $900, and on sale (Happy Holidays!), but that's similar in price to your ebay model, but it will come with everything all set up and ready to go. And hell, it's not a bad pc. If you really wanted to, you could simply up the graphics card and be good to play heavier games as well. As always, get more information before you make a purchase, but I would try to take advantage of the holiday deals. I woulnd't build one though, from your standpoint. Too much work for something mainly casual.

Stellar Dawn Website Open
Cool - I applied, even though I haven't played RuneScape in a good while. Not sure if they actually got my specs though, and I put my age as under 18.... so I may reapply lol.

What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?
That reminded me of Metroid Prime - but with more fun combat. Once I realised that, I liked it even more. I loved Half-Life 2 - I'm playing the first one now, because I hadn't before playing the second. Have you gotten to Ravenholm yet?
