  1. I don't think you're in love, then. You might love her (and her company), not in love. I see a massive difference. But I think the list thing is [bleep]ing adorable. Make it heartfelt and beautiful. I heard a story once, where a man began (on Thanksgiving) to write down one thing a day that he was thankful for, concerning his wife. He gave it to her the next Thanksgiving, having written down something every day (it was her birthday too, I think). She cried. It also just about saved their relationship, as it had other positive effects upon how he treated her - going from being complacent in regards to her love to an active passion. Stuff like that is most of my reasoning for being an over-the-top romantic. You just make folks' day. I'd like to discuss something. Something I've noticed a lot of lately, that has bothered me. It's relevant. It plagues both guys and gals, but I feel it is moreso the lad's responsibility: complacency. Dull, boring, unchanging complacency. I had a conversation with a very important girl in my life today. I've been noticing that she's been having troubles with her boyfriend a lot lately. She isn't one to talk about her problems much, preferring to weather them bravely but cry alone. It tears my whole heart out when this kind of thing happens. Her boyfriend really just takes her for granted. He gets mad when she flirts with other boys, but she only does because they pay attention to her. Compliments, politeness, opening doors - it's the little things that really do matter. They relationship is in serious trouble, but she won't talk to him about it. She agrees with me that it could ruin their (over a year) relationship, but doesn't want to bring it up for fear of it becoming a fight. I've tried to talk to the lad, but it's hard to contact someone you barely know when they live thousands of miles away, harder still to make them listen. How many relationships can you think of that went this way? Just pay attention, guys. Cherish her. Don't be needy about it (neediness is requiring her attention to thrive), but tell her how she makes you a better man. Love the lass, or somebody who does will win her affections. And complimenting her just when you want sexual favors is not worth a pat on the back so much as a knuckle sandwich. But I like to handle my problems with pen and paper. Or, more accurately, keyboard.
  2. You do know this is the internet, right? Where there are incredibly simple instructions on making everything you can think of? C'mon, laddie, you're better than that!
  3. I don't like dinner dates as first dates. Alas! what can I do. - No on the football game - Make it an interesting place (tends to be cheaper, too) - Know something about the venue - Order food that may be out of your comfort zone just a little (that you think you'll still like) - Look really good - Make great conversation; I know you can
  4. Interesting, that's for sure.
  5. No suh! Just glad that folk are enjoying the french cuffs. I may have a job soon, though, fellers. Then my closet will be looking quite fly! Quite fly indeed ...
  6. Hurraaaaay!
  7. If retribution is what you seek, it should be swift and merciless. Do not dedicate your life to revenge; instead, wreak your vengeance by living a good life despite evils done unto you.
  8. Bomber jackets should be brown, biker jackets black. I'm not quite sure what you mean by military style.
  9. You have automatic admission to UT Austin. Really any public school in the country will take you. Rice, however... I think you have a shot. They judge on more than just GPA (and yours is pretty good, actually - but bringing it up won't hurt). So raise your GPA, get recommendations from core class teachers (preferably in whatever you want to study) and tell your parents to sit down whenever you show them the tuition bill (whether that means you've gotten some of their great financial aid or ... not!).
  10. o_O Is this lack of wanting to lose your virginity due to religious views or something or just personal moral values? @ aquariusman I agree completely. Because it is funny. And, now I have money placed upon it.
  11. Had fun tonight at a party with my brother and some of his friends. Forgot that parties with older people tended to be, you know, enjoyable. Oh! And, that thing won't work out. But I have a wager. My brother and best friend bet that I will lose my virginity no later than the summer of 2012. I disagree, and will remain a good little guy. I'm even going to make a literal "V-card." Funny part? A 20-something-year-old girl tonight told me that $75 (three people are in at 25 a pop) was a fair price to corrupt me. Then, sexual tension. Then, I left because I promised my mom I'd be home at 12-something. My life should be in books.
  12. I do it. Hard to look good in summer here, so I do that. You need very thin, very casual shirts. Linen would rock, else extremely thin cotton.
  13. Brown (shoes) and black (pants) tends to look bad. I'm not really one for black jeans, though - just so blue they look black. But it's your dealio.
  14. I like to go way off with my socks. Because it is more fun. I don't have any outlandishly colored ones, just light brownish-khaki colored ones. But they do the job.
  15. My brother had his teeth fixed (they were badly messed up, major surgery) in Juarez.
  16. My lady's mother said something to me today. Probably in an attempt to explain why she has been .... I dunno. Not the norm. I couldn't make out anything she said except for "Don't worry." So I shan't.
  17. I blame politics. And this incessant blame game. People are too worried about being wrong or at fault or seen as offensive to do anything. This childish finger-pointing makes nobody any better. It's just people saying "Hey I bet we could do better now that we have hindsight!" even though they won't, because they'll be worried about someone making a study of them and declaring them bad. Went off on a tangent. These rankings are dumb. They have no effect on me. I'll live my life as well as I please - but I'll be aware of how I effect others. Advice folks might should take from. Now I'm talking about selfishness, I guess. But my professors never taught me how to debate and make myself superior. I just read a lot of Twain, boss, and lo' if I know any mo' den dat.
  18. I think a lot of people use matching as a word that encompasses a lot of things. Kind of like when "party" is used as a verb (which I also dislike).
  19. Oh. It's this guy being a troll. I get it. It's supposed to be funny because he isn't being polite and/or is dumb.
  20. I hate the idea of matching your date (colorwise). I hate girls' concept of "matching" in high school, too, while I'm on that subject. Contrast is far more interesting. And I dunno if girls who will only wear nike shorts, a t-shirt and flip-flops (with hair in a ponytail) should be criticizing other girls that at least make an effort.
  21. I'm doing x, you should join me. Pick something low compliance that can easily branch off into something else. Helping you shop for something is perfect for it. Assuming you're at a mall you can end up seeing a movie, getting lunch, playing pool, airhockey or minigolf, going back to someone's house for a movie etc. The wording was deliberate for a much more likely yes because it's something you're doing anyway therefore she can safely back out without being rude if she changes her mind. Please don't do this. I vote use the middle ground. What I do: Walking along with the girl, talking, having fun. You grab her by her upper arms (lightly, please...), turn her, look her in the eyes, up and down, back into her eyes. Your expression isn't quite readable. Then, you look satisfied. "I need to take you on a date," you state matter-of-factly. Keep walking, talking about the previous subject. When you're done walking, that's when you tell her that you'll call her to work out the details (three, no less than two days before the date - also call prior to the actual date to confirm nothing came up). Tell her what you're doing, at least one specific thing and some generalities. Girls want to know what to wear, to plan. Mimicry is mighty fine practice. But if you learn how to use your hands (no, not like that!), she will be very appreciative.
  22. The only times I get a good night's sleep are after I've had an exhausting day. I need to be tired as a dog physically and mentally, fully fulfilled emotionally. That is always a great sleep.
  23. Funny thing is, she got her phone taken away that night of our date just because she was waiting for me to say goodnight. I told her at like 10:11, apparently her parents wanted her asleep already (to be fair, she has to wake up at like 5). Kind of funny to me. I mean, it stinks that I can't talk to her, and I was planning another date for tomorrow. But now we'll move it to Tuesday, because I already know where I need to be (I'm doing a gig at a place close to the place our choir is having a concert - I'm going to see it, and I'm sure she is, too). She gets it back Sunday, I think. See, her best friend is a close friend of mine. And I definitely mean best friends - their parents are basically interchangeable (and all love me, woop woop). So it works out great for me.
  24. That would be if the shoe needs entirely reconstructed. Which it won't. You probably won't pay more than the eight dollars or so at the store. You won't have time to ask for opinions, though. You'll just need to snatch the deal up. Bring someone with a fair style, or at least a good idea of your style.
