  1. Alright I added all the entries so far to the first post! I also extended the deadline to make it a solid month from the making of this thread (was given the advice to do so by another judge and I think its a good idea) Im really glad so many people are participating in this contest :) Its really great to see more people around the gallery. Once again everyone goodluck and if your new to pixeling dont be afraid to post a thread in the rest of the gallery to get some C/c. If you need help alot of us (including myself) will help you as much as we can! -C14
  2. Wow these new entries are incredible! I knew there was some talent hiding around these forums :) Im super excited to see what else is entered  Remember even if you dont think youll win against these new entries still try your best and enter it in! You cant get better if you give up as soon as somebody else with more experience steps in.
  3. You should give it a shot ALG ill always be here to help you ;) Aeon the first thing I see is that your mountains, river and tree on the right have too busy of edges. Try making them all more wavy and less abrupt zig-zagy (terrible vocab but hopefully that explains it) Otherwise nice work
  4. I talked to MXM a little in-game and he doesnt seem to have any interest in it so no worries to anybody trying to enter :)
  5. Detail > Humor I suppose.
  6. im suprised nobody's wanted the one with the bunny girl :S maybe too crude a humor?
  7. Kwim Im going to give the sig to Hugger but since you already do a fair amount of pixels yourself ill do a pixel collab with you if youd like :)
  8. Who made your sig (the ge one) It looks good though  im glad my tutorial is actually helping people. I wasnt sure if the techniques would still go over peoples heads or not :ohnoes:
  9. The Tip.it Gallery Presents... A Pixel Art Contest There is no theme for the contest! That means you can make anything you want! Be creative and draw something you feel best works with your style! Deadline: VOTE NOW What is Pixel Art and how can I do it myself? There is a really great guide on PixelJoint that covers everything you need to know about pixel art. As for how to do it yourself I recently made a guide that helps beginners (Theres a link to it in my signature). Theres also a ton of really great guides on Pixeljoint that explains how to draw certain things such as people; youll just have to look around on their by following the link I provided. Keep in mind just because youve never done it before doesnt mean you shouldnt try! How the contest works: The contest will be taking entries between now and June 4th. Following June 4th, the Judging Panel will decide on which 2 pieces are the best! Once the Judges have chosen the first and second place winners, the winners will then receive their prizes! Although there is no actual deadline for signing up (besides having your work in by June 4th) We ask that if you do plan on attempting the contest to post on this thread so that we can get a proper head count of how many people to expect! Prizes: 1st Place; 10m RSGP and a Custom Pixel Signature made by me 2nd Place; 4m RSGP and a Custom Pixel Signature made by me Note on the RuneScape GP Prize: The prize of RuneScape GP is one time only and has been approved by Jagex as an exceptional one time prize event. Rules: 1. Your canvas must at least be 300width by 150height (measured in pixels) 2. Your piece MUST be Pixel art (no GFX, digipaint, etc for this contest. They might be allowed in future contests however.) 3. You can enter at anytime as long as its before the deadline 4. If you miss the deadline you wont be counted. 5. Save as .PNG or .GIF. NOT JPEG. It will ruin the quality. 6. When youve finished your Pixel Artwork post it here and I will add you into the entries on this post! Hope everyone has fun competing and goodluck pixeling :D Current Entries;
  10. lol? why minecraft? But thanks and i look forward to seeing your progress :)
  11. Im taking Econ, English and Stats... Wish me luck my friend
  12. The Classic Cape Emote sucks. It deosnt relate to RSC at all other than the 2D-ness and that when u skilled a little bubble used to go over your head... But its not something everybody REMEMBERS about rsc. The veteran hood is pretty cool though :) I got to encorporate it into my outfit somehow
  13. Sounds good Pat :) Im afraid im going to have to cut the sig making down for the news week and a half as well due to AP tests :x
  14. Hey Pat long time no see :). Yes I do my own text, its nothing special but i think the hand drawn text looks more authentic in pixel sigs. My borders are usually just a 2pixel thick black border ;) I did see demented heros tutorial and i might link to that at a later time (when im doing people) as I think his is too advanced for the beginning pixeler. Sig's looking great pat :) glad somebodys already making one from my guide :D Edit: Your gunna have trouble with the way you placed that road. Its either going to have to lead to some sort of tunnels in the mountains or lead into a town of some sorts. Roads cant just stop all of a sudden :P
  15. Welcome to the Gallery if this is your first time :) I really like the first 4 and the swimming one. The others arent as good imo and maybe its just that the content doesnt interest me as much as others (never been a fan of dragonballz :S) I wish i knew more about photoshop sigs like this so i could give you some c/c but I cant :S
  16. Nash replied to Gilformen's topic in Art and Media
I love the hat and I love the dragon :) the dragon looks like the one from that how to tame your dragon movie (never saw it but the ads were all over television :P) As far as c/c goes id probably say you might want to try bulking up the guys arms and legs just a little. he seems kind of skinny for now but thats just imo, I think i remember you saying you like the anime style which does tend to use narrower looking people. Either way the anatomy is still good :) no unusually long torsos, arms, big/small heads etc. Another thing you might want to touch up is where the base of the tree meets the ground. Maybe extend the roots out a little more? Im not sure if im making much sense so i scribbled up a little: Also really nice job with the tree branches :) I suck at drawing those tbh :P Looking good so far :)
  17. By small game I meant like 1 person going up like 5 floors of a g and castle, defeating a boss and the end lol. As for programing and such i cant help you there, but i can make the pixel graphics and provide some music if you give me some time over the summer to record some stuff :) @Tripsis; yeah lol ive done it both ways, in more realistic pixels i like to do it the way your saying but in cartoony ones i like to flip it because it looks more fantasy-like.
  18. Oh wow cac you know how to make pixel style games? Id love to make a small game with you <3 its always been a goal of mine but i only know how to pixel lol. maybe something like the old zelda game (but much much smaller obvs) and k4ylan yeah itll take an hour or two. be sure to post your progress in a thread in the gallery and ill help you :)
  19. Oh yea making sprites like the one in your sig would be suicide in paint lol.
  20. Yeah I like pixeling in Paint because its easier (has less bells and whistles to work around) and I can set up 28 custom colors in my little color box :) As for hard its not really too difficult if you have the right instruction :) I was lucky enough to get mentored by Destro and Jopie when I came into it along with occasional tips from dharokslayer and Hiimben. But hopefully things like this will help encourage people to give it a shot as well as dismiss some of the rumors that pixeling is near impossible to do.
  21. I animated lava a long time ago but it looked terrible and i scrapped it. An animated waterfall would be kind of nice though :) might try it!
  22. I wouldnt say scribbling grass is hard. The water is trickier but still not super difficult. Id say shading only gets hard when you do people and inside rooms. As for landscapes its alot like painting, just blobs. thanks guys for commenting so quickly :)
  23. The Art of the Pixels: Pt I A Tutorial by Cowboy14 Note: PLEASE reply to this topic once you have read it. Its been too long for me to remember exactly whats hard about pixeling so in order to better help you I need to hear questions/input from people just starting out! Other Useful Tutorials to read through along with mine: Quer Skull's Pixel Tutorial Ceddo's Pixel Tutorial Im going to break this down into multiple parts, this being the first part of an entire tutorial. Breaking it down into three different threads will ensure you dont get too much information thrown at you all at once. Part I: The Landscapes Part II: The People Part III: The Buildings/Rooms And so it begins... Part I: Landscapes. Step1: Make a Canvas; In this case mine is 300x150 Step 2: Make a horizon line dividing the sky from the ground. Step 3: Make your first layer of mountains. Step 4: Make your second layer of mountains. Step 5: Make your third layer of mountains. Step 6: Make a river in the foreground to fill in the space. Step 7: Draw some other things like trees to fill in the space. Step 8: Its important for the placement of things to make sense. In this case, the tree was cut down so theres a tree stump along with the rest of the tree behind it. Step 9: Continue filling in the foreground until your satisfied and it doesnt look empty. Step 10: Added a dragon hatchet. Step 11: Added a road. Its a cheap trick to fill in space. Step 12: Added more stumps. Step 13: Shading the mountains; start with the first row. (the first ones you drew) Step 14: Shade a darker part of the mountain closer to the ground. Step 15: Now shade a lighter part on the top edges of the mountain. This is where the sunlight would be shining on the most. Step 16: Shade darker spots some more. Step 17: Shade the other two rows of mountains. They should end up looking like this. Step 18: Time to shade the grass! -Start with the furthest back ground. (by the mountains) -Basically just scribble different shades of green around. Step 19: Make darker scribbles. Step 20: So now your grass behind the lake will look like this. Step 21: Now scribble the water like you did with the grass. Step 22: Darker scribbles. Step 23: More scribbles. Step 24: More scribbles! (more shades of blue) Step 25: More scribbles!! (still more shades of blue) Step 26: Now do the same scribbling technique for the grass in the foreground. Step 27: Tree stumps are fun. Step 28: Scribble vertically like tree bark. Step 29: Darker scribbles Step 30: Scribble like you did with the grass and water but on the road now! Step 31: Make a gradient for the sky going from light to dark as you go higher up. Using dithering shading techniques helps alot for this sort of thing (the checkered shading) Step 30: Add little details everywhere you see fit, add a border and your name and you have a sexy new pixel sig! And there you have it. Now this may not be the greatest way to pixel but it is in my opinion the easiest not to mention the way I learned how at first  . Feel free to post your work on this thread and ill help you with any problems you may have! Goodluck pixeling! Cowboy14
  24. Like 1 on 1 lessons :)

thanks Jimmy :) Yeah I remember you were one of the first people i ever made a sig for :D I made some more pixel sigs too cause apparently Im not cool enough to go out on my saturday nights; I like the Dag Kings one, not a fan of what looks like Super Mario, and I like everything in the beer one except the guys face. But i thought id get some c/c from you guys :P
