  1. The Art of the Pixels: Pt I A Tutorial by Cowboy14 Note: PLEASE reply to this topic once you have read it. Its been too long for me to remember exactly whats hard about pixeling so in order to better help you I need to hear questions/input from people just starting out! Other Useful Tutorials to read through along with mine: Quer Skull's Pixel Tutorial Ceddo's Pixel Tutorial Im going to break this down into multiple parts, this being the first part of an entire tutorial. Breaking it down into three different threads will ensure you dont get too much information thrown at you all at once. Part I: The Landscapes Part II: The People Part III: The Buildings/Rooms And so it begins... Part I: Landscapes. Step1: Make a Canvas; In this case mine is 300x150 Step 2: Make a horizon line dividing the sky from the ground. Step 3: Make your first layer of mountains. Step 4: Make your second layer of mountains. Step 5: Make your third layer of mountains. Step 6: Make a river in the foreground to fill in the space. Step 7: Draw some other things like trees to fill in the space. Step 8: Its important for the placement of things to make sense. In this case, the tree was cut down so theres a tree stump along with the rest of the tree behind it. Step 9: Continue filling in the foreground until your satisfied and it doesnt look empty. Step 10: Added a dragon hatchet. Step 11: Added a road. Its a cheap trick to fill in space. Step 12: Added more stumps. Step 13: Shading the mountains; start with the first row. (the first ones you drew) Step 14: Shade a darker part of the mountain closer to the ground. Step 15: Now shade a lighter part on the top edges of the mountain. This is where the sunlight would be shining on the most. Step 16: Shade darker spots some more. Step 17: Shade the other two rows of mountains. They should end up looking like this. Step 18: Time to shade the grass! -Start with the furthest back ground. (by the mountains) -Basically just scribble different shades of green around. Step 19: Make darker scribbles. Step 20: So now your grass behind the lake will look like this. Step 21: Now scribble the water like you did with the grass. Step 22: Darker scribbles. Step 23: More scribbles. Step 24: More scribbles! (more shades of blue) Step 25: More scribbles!! (still more shades of blue) Step 26: Now do the same scribbling technique for the grass in the foreground. Step 27: Tree stumps are fun. Step 28: Scribble vertically like tree bark. Step 29: Darker scribbles Step 30: Scribble like you did with the grass and water but on the road now! Step 31: Make a gradient for the sky going from light to dark as you go higher up. Using dithering shading techniques helps alot for this sort of thing (the checkered shading) Step 30: Add little details everywhere you see fit, add a border and your name and you have a sexy new pixel sig! And there you have it. Now this may not be the greatest way to pixel but it is in my opinion the easiest not to mention the way I learned how at first  . Feel free to post your work on this thread and ill help you with any problems you may have! Goodluck pixeling! Cowboy14
  2. Alright I emailed you both with your signatures :) @Norrii; Ill be doing more sigs and ill take the requirement down eventually (sooner if people donate to my santa hat fund XD) @Oxuel; Will do :) If you want to start now just pm me with your work and ill give you tips and help you. Like 1 on 1 lessons :)
  3. thanks Jimmy :) Yeah I remember you were one of the first people i ever made a sig for :D I made some more pixel sigs too cause apparently Im not cool enough to go out on my saturday nights; I like the Dag Kings one, not a fan of what looks like Super Mario, and I like everything in the beer one except the guys face. But i thought id get some c/c from you guys :P
  4. lol thats cause im spending too much time making them as opposed to posting on the forums :S Touche though :P
  5. Due to my lack of a life, I decided to get back into Pixel art. So over the past few days I drew up a few pixel sigs to give away to people to use on these forums! Unfortunately I have one requirement; In order to take one of my signatures you must have over a 1k+ post count. This is to ensure the Signature gets used a great deal (since people with that post count generally post more often than somebody with say, a 50 post count). Im sorry I have to require this of people but pixel signatures take hours to do and I just dont want to see any of them getting wasted :ohnoes: . With that being said, here are the signatures; 1] Robot Miner 2]Dont Feed The Trolls **Given to Gandorf61** 3]Sunset (Cape Color can be changed) **Given to Mylez** 4]Dagannoth Kings **Given to Hugger_88** 5]Dock of the Bay **Given to K4ylan** 6]Blame it on the Juice [title credited to Jamie Foxx] ~Phat Color can be changed~ Signatures made by request; N_odie Thats all of them :) Also, even though Im not charging for these sigs, donations are very much so appreciated as they do take alot of time to make. I understand that charging GP in exchange for signatures is RWT and therefore am not selling them. But if anybody would like to help me by donating to my Santa Hat fund im always willing to take money off your hands :shades: Fill out this quick form to pick which one you want; Which Signature # do you want: What Name do you want in the Bottom Corner: Any other text youd like?: Will you use this signature forever <3: : [yes :D] [no :(] Quick reason why you deserve it: Enjoy and thanks for looking, -C14 **Also, if your curious about MAKING a pixel signature of your own im working on a pixel tutorial that should be out in a week so be sure to check The Gallery for its release**
  6. Nah the guitar one was Pat_61's. I cant honestly remember which one I made for you :S Its no big deal if you dont have it though. My computer crashed too so I lost all my old stuff <_< @Steve; Maybe we could do a collab or something, that way the time is divided amungst the two of us. All I know is I wish the Gallery would get a little more populated :o Thats hopefully what giving out all these pixel sigs will do, create some Gallery Hype.
  7. Its all yours Gandorf :) PM'd you about it. @Shiny; I never realized you were ShinyRedPlanet. Hi :D do you still have that one I made you way back when? @Stevepole; when are we going to see some Pixels from you ;) I remember you asking about the Mac equivelant of Microsoft Paint. Have you tried Gimp yet? @Gilf; Same thing as Stevepole, more pixels please :P Your pro already so its not any giant request

Just Wondering, what Camera do you use for most of these shots Sam? Id have to say my favorites are 6,7,8,9,15, and 16 :o
  9. Ive been working on this one for over a year now; I drew up the guy first (probably closer to 2 years ago now) then about 6 months ago I came up with this waterfall idea but never finished it because my life got pretty busy with school and what not. Revisiting them both recently though I decided Id mash them together and make only one piece out of them. This style takes way more time than the cartoon stuff so im not sure if ill ever be able to do more of this kind  But yeah, let me know what you guys think :o
  10. I agree Shiny, hows this instead;
  11. After doing that robot miner one I came up with this idea too and quickly drew it out. Not sure I like the color choices but here it is  Or This one will need a home as well, same requirements as the other sig (I really just want to use these sigs as a way to jumpstart the gallery again). C/c Away

Im in love with your Photography Sam (or should i call you Littleboy :P) You should create a Tumblr acc and make a photography blog PLEASE. You already have 1 follower here ;)
  13. Why do kids care if other people bot the game? Your supposed to be playing the game for your own enjoyment; not to compete with others. If your mad they unfairly got levels that you worked to get your obviously playing wrong. It should have been fun to get those levels, and if you dont enjoy leveling then dont use that skill (hence why my farming lvl is 38 but i still have a 2k total lol). On the other hand, bots crowding up places like red chins, rune ore, etc would be annoying and that is the ONLY reason i can see as to why bots are a pain.
  14. Lol I dont honestly know where this is supposed to take place actually. The only rune minig spot i know of is in the wildy but I couldnt have been bothered to draw the lava maze in the BG  And yeah looking back at it now i think the ground/wall could use a little more detail.

    Scammers

Err could you explain how high cb levels scamming = them trying to gain more trust? seems like thats just trying to get themselves a bad reputation. And you cant just assume that all people low combat secretly have mains and are just trying to scam to get some sort of sick enjoyment out of ripping others off... that makes it sound like most of RS is filled with a bunch of sick bastards.
  16. Well this one came from wanting to make something for DementedHero's Robot Project (check it out). It started with just the robot and then the concept of it being a Rune Mining Bot came later. With that being said, im going to make a new, non RS related robot for DH's project now but I thought id still share this one ;) As you can probably guess, the color choice for the robot came from the infamous botter look; Its an amusing concept, but probably not my best artistically. The next Pixel Ill show you guys will be a more realistic style rather than this cartoony thing ive been doing lately. Anyways C/c is always welcome :) let me know what you guys think! PS: This sig will need a home! If you want to use it as your signature Post here! My requirement may seem a little odd at first but theres a method to my madness. -In order to use this sig you must have over a 1k postcount and post very frequently in the General Discussion and/or Help & Advice sections of the forum! The reason im requiring this is because that will ensure this sig gets alot of views from people on the other sides of the forums. Therefore the sig will hopefully attract more attention to the Gallery and revive these part of the forums just a little bit more :)
  17. So question; Is the contest for the free t-shirt only amungst the Tipit Gallery or amungst all the forums your posting it? And whens the deadline? sounds like a fun idea so im in

    Scammers

Back in '05 I made it to level 83, with a granite plate & DDS by only selling resources to stores. Of course, this was before the addition of the GE. Don't underestimate the incompetence of ten year olds. Lol I think the last time Carl had to sell stuff to the gen store to make enough money for rune was in the RSC days so he might not remember that as vividly as you and I might. But I agree, the kid wasnt the best with sentence structure so I can only imagine his age was pretty young. No but there was a rune platebody thats street price didnt go much lower than its store price which was 84k if i can remember correctly (which costs more than a granite plate anyways). Hes just proving a point, please refrain from spamming/trolling other contributors to the thread.

    Scammers

True and I agree those certainly are more malicious scams and not usually done by the average Scaper but more or less RWTers. Those would be scum in my book as well. Lol I wish I would have known about this link... It would have saved me 30minutes of walking him through things. Thanks :P I actually didnt discover ways of making 100k+ P/hr until I was around lvl 80 and finally joined this community to be honest. Did I buy my account? No. But I can tell you I didnt have much fun getting my Santa hat from cutting yews :wall: (santa was 500k at the time I think so it took me like 1.5k yew logs). I just wonder if leading them to the runewiki link Salad provided instead of muting them would give better long term results. Remember I still think that Scamming = Bad, im just opening a decent discussion about scammers since most of the topics lately have been about them being just as evil as middle aged men rapeing little girls.
  20. While checking prices of materials at the GE to decide what skill to work on next I saw somebody performing the infamous "Doubling Money" scam. For some reason or another Ive always been curious as to what peoples "logging out" price was; as in, how much money they need to receive from others before they log out, thus completing the scam (for that world anyways). Therefore I went over to him and traded them 15k. As a result the person asked me to follow them as they needed to go get something out of the bank, walked into a crowd of people standing by the GE people and proceeded to log out. I quickly added them to my friends list and discovered they werent clever enough to turn their private chat to Friends Only and began to message him once he had hopped to another world. I started off with asking him "why would you scam somebody over 15k?" and "Is 15k enough money for you to risk getting muted and possibly perm muted?". He responded saying "Im sorry I just really need the cash, I really want a whip". Then I asked him if he was making over 100k p/hr from scamming people at the GE. To my suprise he said hed be lucky to make that in an hour scamming people. After that I was amazed that at his combat level (84) he knew of no money making methods that would make him over 100k per hour besides scamming. So I asked him to meet me on my home world (99 :shades: ) and I told him Id show him a few ways to make money at his level that wouldnt require breaking any rules. First I took him to the Chaos Druids Resource Dungeon and explained once he got the hang of it he could be making 200k p/hr there (he was shocked) Then I explained to him once he had about 1m that he could buy a cannon and go to green dragons and make over 500k p/hr (even more shocked) I also explained to him how to make money gathering items that spawn in certain places (white berries) as well as Mort Myre Fungus (if he gets the quests done). Once I was done explaining this to him (and having him write it all down in his RS Notepad) and lending him a whip for 24 hours he couldnt stop thanking me. He obviously asked why I was being so nice to him after he had scammed me 15k and I explained that everyone has been where he is at one time or another. My point is, we all started playing this game as clueless as him. Sure some of us on these forums can pretend to be high and mighty and say they never scammed while playing an online game but the truth is, the majority has been at that same point; uninformed and desperate to get further along in the game but have no money. OR EVEN WORSE; told that cutting yews and magics and mining coal is the best way to make money and to continue doing that. If mining coal really WAS the best way to make money, I know id probably rather scam and avoid getting arthritis in my fingers from clicking a stupid rock for hours on end. I suppose tomorrow he could be back to scamming and never even take into consideration the things I taught him, but for the purpose of this thread lets assume he does listen to me. Doesnt informing them help alot more than leaving them in the dark and just mute them for a few days? Discuss.
  21. A dungeoneering bot that actually works followed by a frost dragon bot that uses a cannon. And Jagex's JMods are still banning those "detrimental" pure ess bots
  22. So does this mean everybody who plays The Sims in this thread DOESNT use the cheat codes that gives you unlimited cash? Does that make me morally unjust because I like having unlimited cash in The Sims? :ohnoes: Will I go to Cyber Jail?! People treat MMORPG's too much like regular life. It is, as mentioned in the name (mmorpg), still a game. Hence being called a Massively Multi-Player Online GAME. There are risks to people botting in MMORPG's; that being their accounts will be banned if caught. Therefore they bot with the full knowledge that theyre risking getting banned. High risk = Less work (risk being ban) No risk = Alot of work The risk of getting banned compensates for their advantage of working less to achieve their skills. Do I personally think thats fair? Not at the moment; the chances of being banned needs to be MUCH higher than it is now. Then I think it would be fair. Ive never botted skills, the only thing ive ever done was used an auto-typer back in the World 2 days. I had an advantage over other merchers, I was risking getting in trouble, I DID get in trouble, got temp banned, and then NEVER used it again. Simple as that. If the odds of getting caught were higher, making the risk much higher, then botting wouldnt be as unfair. Also, they dont ruin the in-game economy as much as people keep saying  and too be honest, id rather the prices of coal, yews, etc were even cheaper then they already were. If your cutting yews or mining coal because thats your form of making money, im sorry to tell you your doing it all wrong. They havent been good money making methods in YEARS. Also, all other games have bots, but only the Runescape Community is the ones that seriously whine about it. Maplestory had a hacking bot that literally pulled every monster in the area to 1 square and allowed the player hacking/botting to multi-att all of them in 1 square away (safe spotting). Giving them an EXTREMELY unfair advantage over others. They eventually improved their engine and ensured this would never happen again. Problem solved. WoW has bots, but because Blizzard bans them much more frequently than Jagex, the risks match the gain. What am I getting at? Its a game, so the only people responsible for keeping this game Bot-Free is the people in charge of it.
  23. Definition of "Easy": -posing no difficulty; requiring little effort; "an easy job"; -not hurried or forced; "an easy walk around the block"; "at a leisurely (or easygoing) pace" Now take that into consideration. Is construction really and "easygoing pace"? It takes too much clicking for me to call it easy; the expenses aside. How about fletching even? You have to click every 14 long bows to make them, bank them, withdraw more, and repeat. So I personally wouldnt call that "easy" either. Cooking is "Easy" seeing as you get 100k-300k xp p/hr and has less clicking than fletching/con/etc. Theres even "easier" skills than cooking though. How about combat? You can basically AFK combat skills for hours on end, no clicking needed. Thats "easy" in my opinion. Theres a difference between EASY 99's and FAST 99's Easy 99's -Anything Combat -Cooking -Woodcutting Fast 99's -Cooking -Fletching -Prayer -Summoning (technically if you have the charms) -Construction -Firemaking
  24. Alright ill start that build now :) thanks guys.
  25. Thanks Losing Games :P Just trolling Levon because hes an ass to me most times.
