Apparently it pulled up a list of what I suspect were open ports and the ips connected to them, with the ips listed under the heading "Foreign address," which the scammer said were all the out of country operatives on his computer doing nebulously bad things. It seemed like it was just the scare tactic to get my dad to trust him. Just based on the kinds of tech support calls I get from my dad, it seems like the alt-right websites he visits get hacked a lot, probably because they're pretty small outfits in the end, but they still have a strong userbase of older people who don't know how technology works and it scares them. I did eventually find some pretty suspicious .rss files in his downloads folder, which I suspect might have been the culprit.

About 2-3 months ago, my dad had someone call him about a virus on his computer. That classic scam. He had my mom call me while he was still on the phone with the scammer, and I told him to just hang up, which he did. When I asked if the scammer had run anything, my dad said all my dad had done was run ipconfig in a command prompt. So I decided it was probably safe, and told him he was fine and just to hang up on similar calls in the future. Came home today to find my dad has a backdoor installed on his comp, which his antivirus has been detecting but failing to clean for the past 2 months. So either he did run something more than ipconfig, or one of his shitty alt-right websites installed a trojan on his machine somehow. I've spent the last half hour trying to boot into safe mode, because it's different than my pcs for whatever reason and I cant figure out which button to press

Guess the person that's going to post below you!
You know, I was hoping when I changed my name that the most recent post would have been guessing Tyler, and I could be like "nah [bleep] it's Tess now" but I was off by like 2 posts. Was very disappointing. An Estonian Dude.

Wheras I'm unconvinced that they are in fact more successful than other men who are just as persistent/good looking/whatever, but who don't assume secret "biological" reasons behind all of a woman's actions. And we can debate this until the cows come jome, but neither one of us intends to go looking for proof that will be sufficiently convincing to the other. Thus, agree to disagree.

Or they're lucky, or they're throwing lots of spaghetti at the wall, or the thing they're doing is effective not for the reason they think, or their predatory tactics are effective but harmful to the women they date, or there's a survivor's bias in reports, or any number of other reasons. It's hard to know whether their tactics are effective for the stated reason or not without some kind of scientific evidence.

I don’t think you understand what we were discussingI dunno, I feel Ginger hit my point pretty square on the head. In any case, it looks like this conversation is heading in a direction I don't really wanna take it, so I'm gonna back out and "agree to disagree" as the saying goes. Don't you think it's a bit silly for Ginger to call it "obvious and reasonable" when it's only obvious and reasonable to you guys? If it were "obvious and reasonable" we wouldn't be discussing this. Given the fact that neither of you really responded to my clarification, I'm assuming you either more-or-less agree with me or you can't argue otherwise. If you're gonna agree to disagree, that's fine, but I'd appreciate it if you provided the rationale behind doing so. Was going to wait until I got home and could use a keyboard, but in short, I think there's a lot of unsubstantiated claims about how women think being made by individuals who have no authority to know how women think, which is what a lot of PUA boils down to imo.

Your question of "Is it manipulative to string people along"? Yes, but that's not what's happening in most situations, and characterizing someone not sleeping with you as "stringing you along" is disingenuous at best, and actively contributing to undermine people's ability to say no to sex at worst.
