I go to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The building looks completely wrecked today. There's no roof, and the top floor is just a mess of mostly burnt wood and drywall, it's pretty sweet.

You live in Omaha? Yeah. I take it you live there too/somewhere in Nebraska that would have heard about this fire? Their response was to hold an open town hall meeting.

Today there was a fire in one of the resident housing buildings on campus (not mine, it was across campus). Everyone I know is fine. I'm just kind of wondering now what the response is going to be from the housing people. Are they going to have mandatory meetings with the RAs, or have like a seminar on fire safety, or are they going to like come in and fit all of the stoves with a thing to make them shut off when no one's around. Maybe they'll do nothing. I dunno.
  4. I choose b. Eww, subs are gross. I do not enjoy reading subtitles in 99% of cases. Really, the only thing I've enjoyed with subtitles was 3 idiots, and even then it was in spite of the subtitles. I know a little about the series (it's a darker look into the magical girl genre), so I kind of knew what I was getting in to. I think even if I hadn't it wouldn't have been as trippy as Vezon's post made it seem, though. It wasn't that crazy, really. I was kind of bored. Seems like you have to get a few eps in to get to the good stuff, but the first episode really wasn't that great. I also definitely see now that a lot of the naysayers are right - it's not as subversive as its fans imply it to be, it plays a lot of stuff straight, or at least pretty seemingly so in this episode. Those were my thoughts, anyway. Mostly just the first one. TNPW post about a non-japanese/korean, non-american piece of media.
  5. Copy pasted from my tumblr. I guess this is a review, not an overview. Whatever. TNPW recommend a piece of media. Or 3.
  6. That looks really nice and clean. I'm jealous now, I want a corner desk all of a sudden.
  7. Fewer playing at that point, which helped a lot.

On the other hand, it feels so good to have it be 75 degrees inside and -10 outside. I love going to sleep with the heater up super high, especially since it's super freezing in winter in my room at my parent's house. Not that I usually turn it up that high, just every once in a while.
  9. Approximately the same way a turbo button works on an emulator, honestly. Most of the button presses are too fast to handle, and some will come at times when the game can't do anything about it, like while the player is walking, but that doesn't matter because you're constantly pressing something and some button will get read eventually.
  10. It just reads straight from the chat. So you type left and the system inputs a left. Most button presses get ignored because the GB can't handle them that fast, but every 30th or so gets pressed.
  11. It definitely helps that the stream is a little lagged, so the commands are not *quite* in sync with the action.

I ate waffles tonight. That's kinda like pizza, right?
  13. I got mine on discount. TNPW sing a song. E: I'm bad at this game, I keep killing the thread.

That's impressive, landscaping on that scale takes forever.
  15. Tesset replied to demby123's topic in Off-Topic
I'm curious, how did you do all the landscaping and whatnot in it? Like, how did you set up the world so the biomes were in the exact place you wanted, and the ground was shaped in a certain way, and the River Lum ran exactly where it does in relation to everything else?
  16. TNPW "write your own Persona poem, speaking in the voice of someone we might not usually hear from in literature or in our everyday lives." No wait, don't do that one, that homework is easy. Instead, TNPW "write a regular expression which accepts all strings over the alphabet of {0,1} which contains at least one 01 substring."
  17. I'm the one saying "I haven't seen this movie." TNPW cook something delicious and post about it.
  18. Oh shit! But wait you're wrong because it's actually Tylerelyt. TBM

Yeah... I don't think they understand scientists. It's like when people talk about alternative medicine. If it was proven to work it'd be called medicine, and sold by companies. If they can sell you bottled water from your local municipal supply for a few dollars per bottle (I'm on water tank and if it runs out it's $100 for a truck to deliver 20,000L), they can sell you healing herbs for an arm and a leg. I mean, if you could prove cannabis to be profitable for pharmaceutical companies, they'd be selling that alongside their current medicines. That's not true. If you're taking the view that pharmaceutical companies are entirely motivated by money and not by saving lives, then the medicine that's going to cost more is going to be the one they promote. It'd be tough to sell fish oil at the same price as a round of chemotherapy (that's not a real example, but from what my dad has told me, a lot of alternative medicine cancer cures are around that price range). The problem is, these are things that already have established pricing, and those prices just don't compare to the prices of current medicines. With your water example, you're not necessarily paying for the extra water, you're paying for the societal damage when you use a lot more water than the expected per household allotment, since water is kind of a precious commodity nowadays. Edit: This is definitely not a view I entirely share, since I don't believe that pharmaceutical companies are entirely motivated by greed, but that's the gist of the argument anyway.
  20. for those that didn't know that word, like me (being honest) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgyny It's quite interesting, adrogyny seems cool. I wonder if that means they have characteristics from both sides (male and female) thus making them a master breed of peoples? :-D I was under the impression that androgyny only applies to appearance and behavior, not so much with actual physiology like sex organs and chemical differences, etc. For example, in the Matrix (first one), the two lead actors (blanking on their names. You know who I mean. The guy who was the One and the girl who actually survives) were chosen not only because they looked similar to each other, but also because they both looked androgynous. Another interesting fact, the other girl in the first Matrix, Switch, is transgendered. Originally, her "real" body is the one you see in the movie while in the Matrix, she becomes a man. This explains why she, or he if you prefer, calls herself/himself "Switch", as this is never explained in the final version of the film. I think there might be a few vague hints that made it to the final cut, but Switch's entire backstory gets cut, which is rather unfortunate. There's a lot of sexual identity stuff in the Matrix, actually, especially since one of the directors is transgendered, although I forget which one and which way. Really interesting to look into, actually, and rewatching the film with this in mind really opens your eyes to things you wouldnt've noticed before. Just dropping a little bit of knowledge on you guys to contribute; a really interesting topic we seem to find ourselves discussing :) Also, that's pretty sweet.
  21. Personally, I'm a big fan of LGBTQIA+ because it's inclusive and is hilariously long. Plus it's got asexual explicitly in it, so that's a bonus.
  22. You'll have to take that up with the ginger who stole my soul. Good luck.
  23. oi m8 ill bash ur hed in Try that again in English?
