It's all up to interpretation atm, because these two pieces of canon contradict each other rather badly. I mean, if the badger mole story is true and the story of Avatar Wan is true, then we have a contradiction unless the city of Omashu came before Avatar Wan. Otherwise, Avatar Wan would have been the first earthbender, not Oma and Shu. But if Omashu came first, then why was that city fine without a lion turtle, and why did the lion turtles have to give or take bending since people could learn it anyway? So, I mean...

The way I interpreted it was that the lion turtles gave the humans bending (the way they did with Wan) and then the animals with the corresponding bending taught them mastery, control, and finesse. But where did the 12 lion turtles come from? I don't ever remember hearing about more than the 4 or 5. Where did you get that from? Like, afaik, no where has that been said or even implied.

For that reason and for the "screwing up the curve" reason, I always feel bad when I do better than the rest of the class on something. Which is sad, because the only time I feel good about an assignment is when I know others didn't do as well, but I can never brag about it to anyone because that never means anything to other people without the context.

So, as a side note, here's an analysis of that $200k a year. So it takes a million views on a monetized video to earn $1000. It's essentially a 1000:1 ration of views to dollars. So making $200,000 a year would mean they're getting 200 million views on all their videos over a year. If they put out 1 video a week, which is pretty doable (taking into account planning, designing, prepping, shooting, and editing the vlog, it could take some time to make a video, so 1 a week isn't ridiculously low or anything). That's 52 videos a year, so to make that much, each of their videos has to get 3.85 million views - that's a lot for a vlog. That's a lot for a lets play too - popular LPers (save PewDiePie and other megastars like him) get in the hundreds of thousands of views on an average video, not millions of views. Let's then assume that they're putting out 3 videos a week. That's a lot of videos a week - if you're putting any level of quality (and you have to to be successful), that basically consumes your life, because coming up with 10 minutes of footage that will be interesting to the entire world in a week is not easy. That's still 1.2 million views per video, which is still a lot. And 7 videos a week? That cuts the number in half, to 550k views per video. So let's take a second to examine how many views a few popular youtubers are getting. (I'm going to include a couple LPers here, because they have similar success and similar complaints) (Youtubers chosen semi-arbitrarily based on whether I know about them already) Alex Day - 381,585.16 views/video. $381.59 per video. $124,000 since Aug 29, 2007, for a total of between $20k and $25k per year. Vlog Brothers (Hank and John Green) - 334,595.2 views/video. $334.60 per video. $376,419.62 since Jan 1, 2007, for a total of between $60k and $65k per year. <- That's pretty good, but keep in mind this is two people running the channel. Charlieissocoollike - 1,635,506.88 views/video. $1,635.51 per video. $296,026.75 since Jun 27, 2007, for a total of between $45k and $50k per year. Sethbling - 391,259.11 views/video. $391.26 per video. $197,585.85 since Jan 19, 2011, for a total of between $90k and $100k per year. <- That's a ton of money to play Minecraft all day. But it's still not $200,000 per year. I'm purposely not including PewDiePie and RWJ, since they are definitely exceptions to the norm. I'd say the ones above are as well, but they're the ones you're complaining about, so there ya go. Of interest if you want to really examine how much time vlogging multiple times a week takes up, I would recommend the channel bingradio. Most of the videos on the channel are a two year project where Bing shot one video every other day, alternating days between the two years, so he was releasing 7 videos a week, and shooting 3 or 4 per week, for 1 and two years respectively. Towards the end, he starts talking about how it consumes and defines his life and everything he does - he has to worry constantly about whether he'll have enough time to edit and interesting material to shoot and a place to upload, and he worries about whether he can even go out and do things just in case he doesn't have enough time to get things done. And if you're constantly worrying about your work/career because you don't have time for anything else, I would definitely say that you can call your life lackluster.

I just want to say, I much prefer rooming with people I don't have to interact with very much. The dorm situation this year is much better because I don't talk to any of my roommates much, whereas I talked to my roomates all the time last year, and they got on my nerves a lot. All of them except the one I didn't talk to, in fact. It's going to be awesome when I can afford to live alone.

Well, I can see we aren't going to see eye to eye on this at all, because we have different interpretations for literally everything related to energybending's mechanics. So whatever -we'll see more if and when the energy book/season happens. All I'm saying, I guess, is that if a dark Avatar was going to happen, this is one way it could. Someone else brought it up anyway, all I wanted to do is give a mechanic by which it was possible, that's all.

Okay, I'm going to concede for now that we don't have a clear enough example of the mechanics of energy bending to prove whether people being given bending or not. I still argue that they are, and the only people who still had bending after the lion turtles stopped giving it were people hiding in the spirit wilds, but there's no proof one way or another. But Aang always did energy bending out of the Avatar state. That was a big point during his final battle with Ozai - he defeats him in the Avatar state, stands over about to kill, then drops out of the state and takes his bending. Nooo. Energy bending is a power that was given to Aang by the Lion Turtle. http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Energybending If he was just telling Aang about the ability, then why did the lion turtle need to use energybending on Aang? He could have just told him. No, he had to pass on the power in the same way the power of the other four elements had to be passed on originally.

I don't see on what level of story telling or plot twist they could ever reach a point where Korra is giving all 4 bending powers to some guy she clearly hates and views as evil to create an evil avatar of sorts. Heck we don't even know if it's possible that she can do it. Yes avatars have used spirit bending to take peoples bending and give it back, but we've never seen them give them a bending power they never had and the Beginings episodes showed the avatar only got all four through the power of the Lion Turtles. I could see Unalaq being possessed by Vaatu to avoid being re-sealed and then Unalaq coming back in book 3 or 4 having gone to study other bending powers and managing more powers through Vaatu's presence - but I just can't see Korra give it to him, she has no reason to and we do not know she even can do that and even if that plot did somehow play out do you really expect it to be some epic battle? Korra, Aang and everyone before spent years, or at least months training to even be able to use other bending powers slightly, let alone mastering them. If that plot line did unfold Korra is already years of study ahead of where Unualaq would be in air, earth and fire bending. Humans don't naturally have bending anyway. It's only through the lion turtles/energybending (and later genetics) that they got any form of bending - what does it matter if they ever had a particular form of bending? They can be given any type, as long as they only have one at a time. I mean, something pretty similar happened with Korra and Aang - Aang gave her energy bending despite the fact that, genetically, she had no predisposition for it. I don't care that she's the Avatar either - it would make far more sense for this to be the case for anyone than it would for this to be a special Avatar thing. No, you're right, I can't see Korra giving other forms of bending to Unalaq. I don't think it's very likely, and if it's going to happen, I think it would happen one of two ways: Either Korra fails to seal Vaatu during this convergence and he posses someone else, who she later gives multiple forms of bending as a test of her own powers while she's learning energy bending (is that going to be what the next book is? Energy? That would be pretty cool.), or else she gives energybending to someone else who goes on to give it to Unalaq (or the other dark avatar if Vaatu doesn't get sealed). I'm not saying it's likely at all, just that it's possible based on what we know of how energybending works. And yes, I would expect it to be an epic showdown if for no other reason than because the plot would demand it. No matter how soon the showdown happened, the narrative would find some way to power Vaatu's possessed human up so that he was on par with Korra. It would feel wrong otherwise.

There's four more episodes this season. One each week in November, with two the final week as the season finale. What could happen is that a modern spirit bender (Korra) could give Unalaq all four elements, and then Vaatu could help control them. That would make it way more likely that he was a multi-season villian too. I want to know what the popular opinion is of the movers and Nuktak, actually. That's something they haven't explored yet.

The newest episode. Korra wasn't really in Beginnings. I just... Korra frustrates me as a character a lot, all the time, and I've been [bleep]ing about it to my irl friend all this season, so this was a nice change of pace. Let's be fair though, the b-plots were way more interesting than the main plot at the beginning of book 2. I was 100% more invested in the romantic stuff between Bolin and Eska than I was with the civil war and Korra's spiritual training, just because the romantic stuff was actually entertaining to watch because it was funny, whereas the main plot just felt (and still feels) unreal and over the top.

Ship being short for relationship. Shipping as in supporting a romantic relationship between two characters, which is a big thing on the internet and how do you not know about it you noob. The episode this week was p good for a Korra centric episode, actually. It does bring focus back to Korra (after 3 glorious episodes away), but the b-plot is with Mako. Yeah, there's a bit of ship teasing in this week's episode. At this point, the writers just can't seem to do without it.

This may have been the first episode ever that I wasn't incredibly annoyed with Korra. I'm very happy about this.
