Your all sort of wrong, the guy above is on the right track. Purple sweets took priority over the death animation. So with a monster with a slow attack (jads attack is delayed), the system recognises the damage you take as he fires, but you dont actually get the damage until it hits you. Therefore, you would essentially be dead, eat the sweet, this would take priority over the attack, and then the attack would hit and you would only take the amount of damage that you had left. : Because you can't be hit more than your remaining hp, you would only ever be hit 3-4 damage from jad. The way to solve this was to allow monsters to hit more than your remaining hp, but then only show enough to kill you. For example , with the old system if I had 5 hp left, the system would think your max hit is 5.
