  1. At least get what you're writing correct first, before you flame. Even though he may not have the year historically correct, he makes a good point, unless, of course, you don't take the bibal as literal fact. Exacto. I don't take it as literal fact. So then your belief is that Jesus never came to Earth, and there is no way to repent and therefore no way to heavan? Is that a correct judgment of your comment, considering you don't take it as literal fact (I'm assuming your a christian - correct me if I'm wrong - and I'm sorry if I am ;)) No, it's a historical fact Jesus the person has existed. That's not a belief, there is too much evidence to show he actually existed. You can still believe that and take the less serious magical parts of the Bible with a grain of salt as a piece of literature.
  2. Iran already did this, like predicted years ago. They are only doing oil transactions in the Euro currency, which is obviously harmful for the US because should it buy oil from them, they need to buy european currency. China can use their gigantic foreign reserves as a political weapon against the US, by threatening to convert the money into euro-spendable cash. Nearly 1.5 trillion dollars is a massive amount of money, about 15% of the whole US economy. I'd say the price of the dollar would sink maybe by a fifth or more if China publicly announced they no longer do transactions in dollars nor keep reserves in american dollars.
  3. That's what I really mean. I what I wrote after that. As I've said before, these topics are useless (especially when it comes to people trying to prove things). We need to agree to disagree. If I had absolutely solid proof that Australia will completely run out of water in the next 10 years, would you think "that's just your opinion"? You can choose not to believe it, but that doesn't alter the reality you're going to live in in 10 years. Things like that can be calculated. It simply doesn't matter if somebody believes "whatever, you're just talking trash". Their belief doesn't cure dryness, so why shouldn't they be educated about the harsh reality they're going to face eventually?
  4. Just a correction, Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore nor does it consist of Serbia & Montenegro. Even those 2 states are now separated 8-) That's true because Tito's Yugoslavian currency had no gold, silver, or any backing at all. That essentially makes money just worthless paper. Still, look at the US. The Federal Treasury hasn't had gold backing for years for the billions of new bills they're printing out, but people have big trust in the economy; It wont collapse soon. Yugoslavia on the other hand didn't have much of an economy. The main operative businesses were owned by the state and were large power plants, shoe factories, etc. producing all the needs to the people. What's there to believe in?
  5. I was using it, the child growing up to be an adult, as an example of biological evolution, not natural. Please read the definition of evolution. And short-term biological evolution does occur in nature, please read about microevolution. It can occur in less than a few decades, and some mosquitoes and other insects are proven to adapt to global warming already, killing off the weak gene pool which can't stand the heat. I didn't say evolution doesn't debunk a young earth theory. In fact, it makes it impossible due to the evidence we can gather just by using radiometric dating on certain objects like old pre-human skulls which prove beyond doubt those humans walked on the Earth over 2 million years ago. They also had a shorter stature, different teeth, different bone structure, but they resemble humans too much to be another species itself. I said evolution does not disprove religion. Evolution doesn't prove a "God is impossible", therefore you can still be religious, and accept evolutionary facts.
  6. Yeah, I don't know about protestants, methodist or any other christian denominations, but the catholic church has acknowledged the factual accuracy of evolution a long time ago. Then again, I suppose most christians on tip.it aren't catholic then.
  7. As said, biology, geology, etc. are not opinions. That's basic stuff you learn in the fifth grade. If you disagree with it, you either don't care about being educated, or are being brainwashed by your parents or a church. I don't care if there's a God or not. Maybe there is. I just care about informing people who clearly don't know what they're talking about. I also read your links, the authority for the claims comes mainly from these statements I found: That's not objective science, that's a religiously motivated attempt at converting people. When I look at .edu or .gov sites that explain how evolution occurs in the nature, they don't try to convert anybody or make people "obey" anything. They just write the results of the experiments they finished. Especially look at the second quote. God is evidenced to be God, because he himself supposedly said he is God. And that was written by a human. Way to make a logical fallacy. Something doesn't exist just "because". That's not evidence. "It's said God said he is God, therefore that's evidence". That's not evidence.
  8. Great, then don't take part in debates about the Bible, Evolution, or anything at all. Nobody's forcing you :) I do care about what other people think when they have facts against my nothing, which HAS happened in the past. You may have an attitude problem, nobody would use these forums if nobody cared what anybody has to say. Why do you use the forums then? A discussion isn't talking with yourself. So why are you here?
  9. I'm just wondering, with a totally natural approach, how did you get an education or are you homeschooled? It is impossible to get an education without studying at least a bit of biology, and even in a local christian school where I live they teach evolution as a part of the curriculum. Evolution is not an argument against religion. Evolution happens in everything in the nature as a normal biological process, just like you evolve from a child to an adult. That's short term natural evolution, then there's long term evolution. Why do some people think "I'm christian/muslim/mormon/chocolate lightsaber, therefore I must refute certain biological facts such as evolution?
  10. Yeah, it's funny how people think the world owes them a living or anything at all. You were born, life is now your problem. And yes, life is unfair. You could just say, "go find food and shelter". In some poor countries, it's difficult. You owe the world, not the other way around. You exist because the world gives you resources, not because you give the world resources. Simply, the world doesn't need you, me, or any other humans. It can sustain nature and everything else just fine without humans screwing up stuff.
  11. Again, whoever says you're a moron or whatever for believing in God, is quote honestly that themselves. There's nothing wrong in believing in a deity, you can't prove or disprove one, so if you have faith then go for it. It's not illogical or naive. However, the Bible, just like the Hindu scriptures or Qur'an, cannot be taken as fact for the creation of the world. There is no other contradiction. The Bible and other 'holy books' can contain good moral codes and ethics which apply almost always. But they do contain a lot of obvious fiction which should be faced with at least skepticism (the creation of the world in seven days, people walking on water, angels descending from nothing, virgin births)... Even if you don't, you should keep in mind many of the most important religious figures in the world don't take the Bible as absolute truth. Many cardinals, even the former pope John Paul warned people about the dangers of taking the entire Bible as truth.
  12. Before you post next time, it would be good to state you just made a quick google search for "young earth theory" and your entire post is from http://www.creationtheory.org. If you want to discuss, please don't copy+paste copyrighted materials from other websites. Use your own knowledge. And, did you read the website owner's comment after that post he had gotten in an email? Let me quote it to you since you so kindly decided to leave it out. So you're basically using a piece of copy+pasted comedy as evidence on a real debate thread. I can't say your credibility is plausible, StrOwes. To me it seems you're just bent on finding 'evidence' for your lost cause, and will even quote stuff that makes you look ridiculous. Please, accept evidence for once. Like, the website you quoted. Take a closer look at what it actually says. It is nearly 100% certain the first modern humans migrated off Africa into other continents. Yeah, Adam and Eve were typical names down there hundreds of thousands of years ago. Probably Bob and Elisabeth were your average cavemen as well. ...Do you really think the earliest humans could've given a crap about abstract things like a 'name' when they had to fight for their lives to survive predators and find food?
  13. Because a biblical scripture doesn't have authority. It was written by humans. Anyone can write a story. Just look at some eastern religions, my friend told me the basics of some hindu deities. Some of them have 5 hands and throw thunders. People *really* believe in those. What makes the Bible any different? There's nothing wrong if you base your life on biblical morals and objectives. However, you can't present any supernatural events in it as facts, because they can't be reproduced and tested. No human can walk on water or create food out of nothing. There aren't even any supernatural events taped or photographed, they've all turned out to be fakes. There is nothing to suggest that all of a sudden, 2000 years ago, some person could had done those things. Science doesn't tell you how to live, if that's what you want. Then use the Bible. Science tells you how life exists, not from a superstitious viewpoint, but factual recreation of scenarios and facts that have been gathered by radiometric dating, fossil ages, etc. The age of certain objects in the world is no less a fact than the fact you have a heart and lungs. How do you know you have a heart, a kidney..? That's not faith, science can prove you can't live without those. Every living human must have at least one kidney and a heart. You haven't touched your kidney or liver, but they still exist.
  14. Yeah, if you want to continue the debate. If you don't, simply leave the thread. There are plenty of other people. I'm convinced on anything as long as it's rational and there's proof. If you aren't, you're stubborn. I like to be a realist, I don't view thing how I like them to be, I view them how they are. If somebody can prove me wrong in any subject, I always accept the reality of the situation. I recently thought it's not possible for a 2-year old to be able to read, guess what: It is. I got sufficient proof on another forum, saw a document on it with the child involved, what is there left to debate? If there was proof islam, christianity or whatever was the 'true' religion, don't you think everybody would follow them? Wouldn't it be good if all humans had a future after their lives, and there was a simple explanation to the origin of life? Who wouldn't want that? I would. But that's just a belief, and beliefs without facts have no merit. If I should pick between dumb faith and what can be observed, I pick the latter.
  15. This rules you out from the realm of "to be taken seriously" posters. I should just ignore your posts and delete any flames. I presented you evidence, proof, you ignore it. You showed me nothing. No thanks, this isn't a discussion, this is a sandbox fight. Also, feel free to edit this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_earth It encourages correction from users who can correct facts. I'm sure you know better than they do. Have fun editing. Why are you on a discussion forum if you aren't ready to discuss and debate? And is it so hard to accept you can still be a muslim, christian, mormon, hindu or whatever you are and still accept biological facts?

    A Moral Issue

Nobody here knows how the world works (life can be studied though science, that's off topic), this was a discussion about morals. Actually, most of the basic morals found in the Bible, Qur'an etc. *do* apply in most cultures of the world regardless if you belong to those religions or not. If you read the 10 commandments, it contains some of the very basic moral principles everyone should ideally follow. Thats just the problem, because its religion or have the word God, athiests pull a hissy fit about it and start thinking THEY know how lives should be ruled. The thing is, athiests are like "why should i live by what a fictional charater said? so i'll do the complete opposite or close to it!" What way to live.. -.- ~Defender~ Nope, most atheists don't believe in irrational or supernatural things (like Muhammad visited heaven while being alive, or Jesus walking on water, or the world being created in 7 days), and hence reject the whole idea of religion.
  17. Trigonometry Science Chemistry History of Europe - very detailed Detailed history of the United States Calculus PM me if you need more stuff to work with :)
  18. I'm not a science nut. I'm not even an atheist. Still I think you're one of the most ignorant posters on this thread, you're rejecting evidence. What's evidence? An apple is red. This was seen by 6 billion people, everybody can see it's red. That's evidence. The world war II did happen. 500 million old people remember fighting in it even if you weren't alive. They all have no reason to lie. There's video tapes, there's photographs. That's evidence. The world was created in about 4.57 billion years. Read about it. That page has been edited by scholars with over 30 years of experience. Edit it if you feel like you're right.
  19. Just go to IMDB.com, that's all I can say. Some movies rated R or NC-17 in the USA can be seen by kids age 12 in other countries. The MPAA is way too sensitive. There's even a movie made about it, called "This movie is not yet rated" which takes a look at how the MPAA works. They have big authority amongst especially conservative families that take their word as divine mandate.

  21. We do. Please read my post above. Science is not a religion. Let's look it up in a dictionary: Science only accepts what can be proven true through empirical evidence and TESTING. Science can prove you are 0-100 years old. Science can prove a tree is 300 years old. Science can prove a rock is 200 million years old. Science can prove why you breathe and why your heart beats. It's not magic or superstition. Science is not "made up". Science is another word for "that which has been tested and can be observed by anybody to be true". P.S: Altering quotes is not allowed as per the forum rules, you've recieved a warning.

Double negative FTL. The ten commandments don't rule over everyone whether you like it or not. So sorry, thread stays open. I don't think you should be allowed to post on any thread regarding Christianity or the Bible anymore. You haven't even read the Ten Commandments... Over 70% of the world's people don't know the ten commandments, so I'd say it's fairly common. And as far as I understand it, God judges all people in the world, not just the minority.
  23. It doesn't seem like you put any effort into it. Let me explain it to you. Every material has a decay rate or a half-life, including those stones with which the Pyramids were built. Radioactive decay occurs in ALL materials sooner or later. Ultimately, after a few thousand (or billion) years, depending on the material, it becomes a "decay product". When a material is made, the nuclides incorporate into a single material. In the case of stones, this process always takes the exactly same amount of time; It's an undisputed clock that proves how long that material has existed for. The half-life of an average stone is in the hundreds of millions of years, whether you choose to believe it or not is your own belief. Still, your belief doesn't make that stone 6,000 years old, except in your mind. You could disagree with other biological facts like bananas are yellow and insist they're red, but that's your belief, not a provable truth. Some isotopes of lead have a half life of 4.5 billion years which is also accepted as the age of the world. Yeah, everyone was a kid. But do you really think you're now as smart as scientists who went to Harvard and earned millions by proving scientific theories and facts to be true in the last few decades? Them "being kids" is not a valid argument. So you would only believe super-humans who knew the Pi's decimal to the 10,000 as 3-year olds?

    A Moral Issue

Do you agree that generally, it is better for a child to have both a mother and a father? I mean, what would you rather have had as a child? Biologically, it's more natural to have a mother and a father which I'd ideally hope for any child. Still, after seeing the results of having two parents of the same gender, I can't say it's hurting the children. You could think so, but get to know those families first. They don't have as many problems as you'd think just because of the parents' gender.
  25. Yeah, I remember seeing a documentary almost entirely based on that statue. It was said even the biggest man couldn't wrap his arms around the thumb of the statue, and that thing actually did exist but was looted after it crumbled down. P.S: Issy is a doll with no family or moral code.
