  1. ehh, I've noticed the community here is just involuntarily elitist. People who have been around here for years have such high levels by now, so that there isnt a real influx of new blood. This is purely postulation though, no experimentation involved, but it KIND OF makes sense. RS has been out for almost 8 years now, so that even people who started in 05 (me) have played for half the game's duration, getting levels all the way. I see most stat signatures with +1600 total level, something that takes a great deal of time, and during that time those players have matured. I think at least here, people really are 'coming of age' as the divide between top scapers and lesser scapers broadens.
  2. with all due respect, these sound REALLY dubious
  3. This is the blog of Leet Man P, a Runescape character created by a certain adventurer named Rick in the early days of 2008 to see what it would be like to start a character from scratch. Over the course of months of playing (and not playing) the character would grow and develop into even more of a noob. Below are the recorded chronicles of said noob. [hide=Progression Pictures]Before we begin, let me take the time to show you the progression of Leet Man P! Through Pictures! January 27th, 2008 (Tutorial Island) January 28th, 2008 (After the first day) March 4th, before I started getting combat levels May 26th, Last Picture before Wyoming Trip (and mondo levels) October 4th, A while after Wyoming, but an accurate picture of the improvement (basically stopped playing after Wyoming) December 9th, Started Playing again And Now, a real-life pic to aquaint yourself with the real Leet Man! December 6th, with an awesome hat Oh, and I guess one from my HxC r00nscaping days, June-July 08! [/hide] [hide=The 175 days of Runescape] Beginning Stats Beginning Bank[/hide] [hide=-------------------------------------TABLE OF CONTENTS]I. 'La Gente del Runescape' ---------------------------------------------------------------[/hide] I. THE GOALS OF LEET MAN P----------------------------------------------------- A. FIRST ASPIRATIONS----------- When I first dreamed up this character, I thought about how fast I could build a leet character using all that I have learned about 'scape in my three years of playing. My goals weren't really defined I guess, but they were there - get leet. Looking back I think it pretty much went like this... 1. Get Member 2. Get Member's skills up 3. Get RFD b33t4n 4. Get Guthan's and become barrows/slayer junkie (like previous account, Panic Pants) 5. Get even leeter I didn't shoot for any single uber level, but I always set little goals before moving onto another skill. It was a simpler time B. THE GOALS REWORKED (circa June 08)------- When I went to Wyoming for the summer, I had nothing to do but play my beloved 'scape. I played it every day for hours, and over the course I had a goals reassesment - beat quests with a low combat level. I beat Legends at 65 and DT at 68, and at the end of the vacation I planned on beating RFD at 69. My reworked goals were more like this by that time... 1. Beat RFD at combat 69 2. Get combat up, get Guthan's, become awesome monster-hunter 3. Get some 99s for good measure By this time my goals were really more ambitious, but when I came back I lost the will to scape almost completely. It's be months before I sat down and truly 'scaped C. The Dreams After the Storm (circa November 08)----- So after being grounded and having my life put back into perspective (getting off the party train, I guess) I came back to my beloved 'scape to complete this character. I no longer cared for glory in completing quests with a low combat level - now all I wanted to do was play the game. With newfound coin from managing my kingdom for over a month, I bought that Guthan's set I always wanted and began to level combat in order to wear it, doing slayer of course! Now my goals are... A. Get 70-60-70 and r00n defender, whip, d boots, and torag armor B. Play Runescape D. The 175 Days of Runescape (Jan 11th - July 6th 2009)----- Let me start by saying Ohio Traffic laws are ridiculous. If you get one citation before you hold your license for 6 months, you get legally pwned and lose your license for 180 days. I decided that since I cant be on a constant adventure in that interesting game called REAL LIFE, I might as well have an adventure in my old favorite game, Runescape! So for 175 days (the first five of the 180 I didn't really do anything) I planned on playing a lot and recording the progress like I did a year ago - every level and a day-by-day picture! As for goals... A. Get 70 attack by way of slayer and obtain a rune defender B. Finish up some quests like RFD C. Level up as I see fit D. Eventually attempt a 99 in a gathering skill (for some good moneys) II. The Past Accomplishments of Leet Man P---------------------------------------- [hide=A. The Commentaries of Leet Man P---------------------------------------------- This is something I decided to do to make my blog more than just a collection of pictures and virtual high-fives. This section are opinions on aspects of the game I've developed over the four years I've played this game. Again, they are opinions - just a display of my stance on this game. [hide=A. 4. yeh its me in both, believe it or not - the best shots of the mohawk were side shots and it kinda obscures my facial features. In other news, another mohawk and another recent pic i love this picture btw maybe that'll help? probably not, but oh well
  5. um, wasn't at school, but a school home football game. Got caught being profoundly intoxicated (had to get an IV). got a five-day suspension and a mandatory 'family class' on saturdays oh, and all the punishment from my parents I think that's pretty bad, now they have a hardened policy because of me at school BUT don't do it kids, the punishment sucks.
  6. allright here's some of me My favorite picture pre-suspension/car wreck (I miss that car, not driving btw lol) My Mohawk from summer Most recent, like 5 minutes ago keep in mind I'm like 5'5. heh.
  7. I game in bouts, typically I'll play R00nscape for a month or two really hardcore-like, then I'll either have a month break doing non-gaming stuff and Play WoW for two or so months (conveniently the time a subscription card is worth) or jump immediately into WoW. They're two completely different (as far as delivery) games lumped together because of similar themes/goals. One fufills my lust for achievement (Runescape) while the other fufills my lust for an engaging structured team experience (WoW). Both are equally hard, FOR ME. WoW can be overwhelming with all you have to do, while Runescape you can pick and choose, although you'll be doing a lot more of it in the long run. Both are good games, and once you go WoW, if you're like me you'll probably come back
  8. Wow, I feel like this puts my 6-month completion to shame. Now I have inspiration =P. 9/10, amazing for 6 months of playing.
  9. The whip myth and the 15m phats was right around when I was like 50 combat and training for 70 range...those were the DAYS Oh wow how the times have changed. That's circa dec. 2004
  10. Lol this should get made the hot topic so that chaosfox gets the attention he so wants. Why else would he come to a Runescape fansite and lament aggressively about how much it has changed for the worse. I hope he realizes he lost in the second post; defend as you want, dude, your outnumbered
  11. Ahh the knife glitch, I saw a pic of someone hitting 25 with it using a bronze hachet. Pretty epic stuff. Yeah oak shortbow and steel arrows were awesome. I used to play on my new ranger pure back then. It was actually mad if you shot 10s and 11s 8-) But even before that, in summer of 04 when I was playing on my earlier ranger pure, I and quite many of my friends used normal shortbow with iron arrows as it shot 2 times faster than oak short. I think it then got degraded back to usual shortbows speed but it sure was fun while it lasted \ Imagine the arrow rain on unsuspecting guy. They all freaked out. That's funny, because I read an old post about rs2 stating that adding up to oak would help 'balance' the triangle. Pretty phail actually, took them a year to add up to maples.
  12. Lol which game are you talking about there Master Chief? Everything's relative, and these are supergreat for Runescape, Great for an MMO (better than Knight Online, arguably better than WoW), and decent for a console game. Yeah yeah your FPS's blow it out of the water, but try playing an FPS for tens of DAYS of playtime. You can't.
  13. I'm playing lo-detial because my comp is phail where I'm at, and my character looks exactly like yours... do you even have hi-detail on?
  14. I kind of thought of that the first time I saw it. more importantly, how does this get to four pages? No, seriously, what the heck? It's discussion value is minimal at best, and with all due respect to the OP but...come on. Oh well, maybe this will get Hot Topic. In fact, I think it should.
  15. Ugh, you guys are missing the boat; the characters of the same gender all have the same basic facial feature (think bone structure, nose/eyes/mouth shape, NOT hair/beards) and being more detailed they all seem to look the same. Look really closely at two male character chat heads, OR two female character chat heads.

  18. Hey here's a setup I always saw 100+'s training on ogres near my ranging spot back in spring 05 wore. -Berzerker Helm (back when everyone wore warrior helm) -Glory Ammy -Rune Pl8, legs, boots -Klank's -Dragon Longsword (scimmy if they were questers) -Prayer Book In the age before Barrows (or when it was 10mil+ for all sets)...
  19. Would you mind telling me when, please? That's like half of the aim of the guide right there =D, but thanks a bunch for the input nonetheless! EDIT: Thanks Range, I was too busy saving up for Guthix back then to worry about barrows XD
  20. Over the years of Runescape there have been many improvements on items, weapons, and armour. What I'm interested in what was 'cutting edge' back one, two, three, and four (or more) years ago? What were people using to do what, and how much did it all cost at the time? To give some ideas, think about these periods and events in history... Classic (before p2p) Classic (After p2p) -KBD killing -PKing RS2 (04) -KQ Killing -PKing (all styles) 05 (think when barrows was rare) 06 (furies, more barrows, DKing) 07 (before GWD, and after) Pictures are GREATLY appreciated, as always
  21. I'd like to see more of these, this medium of short recordings of runescape oddities could be a hit...
  22. I sort-of experimented on this account with quest leveling; especially prayer. I think I had 24-26 before I started to quest-train it, and after four quests (holy grail, death plateau-->troll stronghold, spirits of the elid) I had 43 to complete harder quests. I love the combat-related rewards from quests (monkey madness and requisites come to mind) because early combat is a bore to me, and knight's sword gets you jumping onto smithing. Quests are great for lower to mid levels.
  23. [hide=] Well I agree with you about quests and low combat.. but about it being harder to play the game at a low combat..not really. If you are mainly a skiller than you arent going into places that require combat. Whats so dangerous about getting 99 wcing and lvl 3 combat? Also if combat is more enjoyable then do combat..this game is about fun not who works harder :wall: [/hide] The game is harder for lower-combat-leveled players, but only for certain instances. A good example is agility, the ape atoll agility course is a great way to level agility, however it requires a lot of questing and combat (not necessarily monkey madness but requisite quests) that are more than difficult for a lvl3 (agility also reduces hp, so more hp=longer trips). this isn't ALWAYS the case but in some instances it is (slayer as well, you need a lot of lamps to get that stat up) As far as the comment about enjoying the game; you'd be surprised what people can enjoy. Some like the sense of accomplishment and will play Runescape for that purpose. I personally gain levels and do quests so I can enjoy all the game has to offer, all of which has prerequisites that are less than enjoyable. You may think it odd, but the general consensus of skilling is that hard work entails a greater reward than immediate enjoyment.
  24. There was an article somewhere back walking about guthix skilling or something? I remember in the article they took your total level divided by your combat, and if you had 15-17 levels to every combat level you were pretty balanced (16-18 now.) This is mostly unrelated to the arguement, but try it out and see how good you guys are Now something more pertinent, I think that it's harder to play the game with a low combat level because survival is harder. This is why most people consider someone with high combat and low total undesireable as they play the game the easy way, whilst skillers are more risk-taking. It could also be that combat is more enjoyable than other aspects, so skillers are seen as harder workers. Personally, I think someone with a low combat and a largely green quest panel is the most impressive, because most quests rely on you having a higher combat to beat certain parts, however to have a lower total AND combat and have certain quests completed is the most impressive, becuase some quests are a lot tougher with lower skills
