    That's funny :D
  2. assumption [uh-suhmp-shuhn]   as·sump·tion   [uh-suhmp-shuhn] Show IPA noun 1. something taken for granted; a supposition 2. the act of taking for granted or supposing Which is exactly what you're doing. Just because you have premises (which are a large stretch, I might add) doesn't mean you're not making assumptions. You can "induce" all you want from her post; the fact is that until she posts "I'm pregnant"; you're making assumptions. @mods: I'm done.
  3. Your assumption that she's pregnant. Because it is an assumption.
  4. I think my smiley face contributes more to this topic than your completely unsubstantiated assumptions do.
  5. No no, you don't understand, it's just an induction
  6. For someone who "purports" to "Assume Nothing", you sure are making a lot of assumptions in that post.

Quebec has the lowers tuition fees in Canada, and Canada has the lowest tuition fees in NA. #firstworldproblems
  8. Yup. I say this coming off of my 4th ban. Shit's ridiculous lately. At least it wasn't a 3 month ban though. You make it sound like a bad thing. Weren't you the one thanking the staff for banning you? I got shit done during that time but it was a long ban none the less. [/hide] They try, but miss their mark a lot and (I think) cause more tension and distrust, than positive, inspired feeling. This is coming from a former staff. I won't indulge in personal politics as an ex-staff member (although I could, believe me), but PR has been a severe problem for the admins for quite some time. It was pretty bad when I worked for them many years ago and hasn't got much better since. No leadership group has perfect PR, they're always going to make mistakes. Overall I'm happy with the work the staff does here. Overall.

Involvement is very different from supporting a military campaign like the one in the Middle East. The US forces who were initially deployed were being used in an advisory capacity, to provide specialist knowledge and technology to track him down. On the one hand there's working with the government and military of a country to help them, which is pretty common, and there's invasion or direct military intervention, which is very different. Except the US has already tried direct military intervention (in terms of raids) and it didn't work.

There's a rebuttal of many of the points of that article here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/www.invisiblechildren.com/critiques.html To be honest even before I'd read the rebuttal I haven't been particularly impressed by any of the anti-Kony2012 arguments. Even if the charity is squeaky clean, I think you can support the cause without necessarily supporting the charity behind it. I'm not accusing you of saying this, but I find the whole "but it's more complex than that!" argument a little patronising. I get that the situation in Africa is incredibly complex and won't be solved by bringing Kony in. But I think these kind of people can go unpunished precisely because we second guess each other and the outcome of removing Kony et al. The issue is, does Kony deserve to be brought to justice and be judged for his crimes? I think the answer is unequivocally yes, and that's what I think the message of the campaign is about. Of course it won't fix everything, it might help, it might not. But I think if you have a conscience you have to ask yourself why wouldn't you want to try and stop him? You can debate the details of how that's done, and I think his removal has to come from within rather than with some occupation by foreign forces (which the campaign isn't pushing for), but if bringing him to justice gives some closure to the thousands of people he's affected, then it's worth it. The video made it quite clear the campaign is pushing for involvement from foreign forces....

I still like the iPad way better than any other tablet I've used. From what I've seen from touchscreens, apple products are just better. I'm not a big fan of their other stuff, but when it comes to their touchscreen products, they're a clear step above everything else imo.

Sure, more meaningful. Still not a whit more effective and impactful - which are traits both situations share. I don't know that I'd say raising awareness about something isn't at all impactful...and in the case of SOPA, the blackouts and such raised awareness in the demographic specifically affected by the legislation; which in turn caused a greater volume of complaints to the government, which of course was effective. In the same way, raising awareness about this cause isn't necessarily impactful in and of itself, but raising awareness raises the amount of money raised, which is usually impactful to some small degree.

Similarly. But even then, Osama was more of a figurehead than a practical leader. Kony is both. I'd so that was a little bit of a different situation as the issue was affecting the internet itself - so the activism that took place on the internet was more meaningful.
  15. Thanks. Mind if I add you on Steam? Not at all. I won't be able to reciprocate until this evening though.
  16. Oh no, I just thought it might be useful as a reference. But nice BP at any rate :D
  17. Oh yeah, you're better off just buying a key. Nothing you have is particularly valuable. My backpack: http://www.tf2items.com/profiles/76561198014974462

Kony is the leader of the LRA. Focusing on him and the LRA are one and the same. Not really, he's replaceable. Sure, in the same context of Hitler being replaceable as the leader of the Nazis.
