Hey Retech, what exactly is down those stairs in the second picture?

Artifact furniture is very useful for satisfying your nobles demands for more expensive rooms. On a side note, did you know you can smelt Tetrahedrite, which only has a 20% chance of producing a silver bar, and gold together to create electrum? Basically, Going by metal values, an ore of tetrahedrite is worth an average of -4 (Fuel cost. One coke is worth 10, I believe. Could be wrong about that though), and a gold ore is worth an average of 20. By skipping the middle man, you use only one fuel, and the tetrahedrite/gold becomes 2 electrum bars, with a value of 15 (Fuel cost again) each. Thus, efficiency is increased, and you are gaining 14 value, as well as making the operation faster. EFFICIENCY, THY NAME IS ROSS.

I believe there is an option to forbid passage of dwarves and (Maybe) other friendly units to certain tiles. You could try using that.

My metalcrafter made a silver piccolo encrusted with silver and encircled with rings of silver. It has an image of a dwarf in silver. SILVER. SILVER EVERYWHERE.

Maybe you need to have it facing the direction that the river is flowing in?
  7. I don't know, I think good storytelling does require a minor amount of railroading, but it can usually be averted by giving some benefit to staying together a lot of the time. Don't be afraid to ask somebody to stop trying to break the game ala "I head west" "You arrive at a house" "I ignore it and head further west" "You arrive at a cave" "I ignore it and etc.", since it just means you wasted time making a house and a cave for them to find.

Skip straight to steel. Make sure you mix crossbows and melee weapons. I typically use maces, but use whichever one you want.

Three whales washed up on the beach of my new fortress... Suffice to say, my butchers shop is at maximum clutter level. New fortress is in a heavily forested, warm, peaceful climate. Also, it's full of all the metals, flux stone and gems I'll ever need. Also, theres a brook. Also, magma. I think this fortress is a keeper
  10. Don't have a tablet right now, and my drawing skill turns to crap when I try to use paint, so no can do, sorry.

Nex, I know that only those can be used as fuel, but those materials only come from sediment layers, and I did not have a sediment layer, since sand doesn't count as a sediment layer. And now Archi is playing as well. Haha.

I have made a terrible mistake. I assumed sand could count as sandstone, and thus provide me with fuel from sediment layers, but... It can't, and now I cannot get my metalworking industry going. *Deleted save* PS. Retech, perhaps you should keep track of your dwarf's genders, and name them Appropriatly...

Yeah, I'm making my new fortress as efficient as reasonably possible.

My new fortress location is excellent. A good supply of flux stone, a river and a brook nearby (Which I will very soon redirect into an underground fishing spot), mountains made of peat (Which is so very quick to dig through) and best of all, mountains and mountains of GOLD. EVERYWHERE. Already got a very efficient farm started, stills are up and running, masons shop and carpentry shop are good to go, and fishery is being built now.

I'm just stuck getting crap world after crap world. All I want is a river/brook and a decent amount of trees...
  17. Please, somebody tell me that they're bringing back Jack of Blades, with his original voice actor. It would be really cool if they did.

I flooded the fortress with lava for no reason. Now to make a new fortress which is the absolute model of efficiency.

I am so confused. A goblin was literally torn to pieces by one of my traps, and he dropped a horse hair bag. EVERY SINGLE HAULER I have suddenly decides that the logical choice is to empty my seed stockpiles and place it all in the bag instead.

Why is it t the very day the nobles begin to get angry about their qaurters, all my miners, carpenters and masons go AWOL? "ON A BREAK, BOSS", which is code for sit around pointing and laughing at nobles as they simmer with rage.
  21. Seraphi replied to Iconic's topic in Off-Topic
I tend to keep a CotG, broker, bookkeeper, and mayor. Most other nobles get "taken care of" by the secret service, for the crime of being so damn useless that it hurts, and imprisoning my second best miner because he couldn't find a pretty enough rock.
  22. Looks pretty cool I guess.
  23. Errr... Depends whether or not anyone else wants to do it.
  24. As far as I can tell, the combat is a lot like Monster Hunter, so that could be the reason. But I'm happy with MH right now. 250 hours logged on it. You guys should all get Monster Hunter. WE COULD HUNT DINOSAURS TOGETHER.

Of course drowning chambers are a legitimate concept. That design should work fine.
