It might still be possible to outrange their ice breath with a chaotic staff, eliminating the need for a shield. Use Torment+Soul Split+Overloads and Fire Surge with your slayer helm and you should be able to dispatch them quickly. Ensure you stay at your staff's maximum distance, if a wyvern gets you with ice breath then use Escape to jump back. This is a good video on how to kill them for slayer:

From what I've read, they're going to consider making multiple changes to balance it better and remove most of the release issues it had. Changes will include some of the following: Resize Zilyana's room Remove the door gap to prevent safespotting Make doors one-way and have altars teleport you out instead Rework some godsword specials, such as increase special attack drain Rework some drops to make ZGWD/SGWD more attractive Rework the adamant bar drop from Aviansies
