Hegemony
I wonder how effective plague ridden corpses being flung over the walls in a siege and after a break has been made using catapults or a different style of siege weapon (what I am looking for is something that can fire at a lower angle than say a catapult or ballistae) to chuck balls of flaming pitch into the break (the flaming balls splattering and sending burning pitch everywhere)

Hmm someone stole from my boat.... they took essentially everything but the bricks and some seeds. Earth I would like to talk to you about something.

You keep them slightly away from your army. Then they act like meat shields to slow the cavalry charge down enough that it is not as devastating. While the cavalry charge is slowed down you can pump arrows into the knights as well.

You know what peasants are good for? Breaking cavalry charges and being trap monkeys. Aside from that.... I guess you could zerg rush with 'em.

Fine then I am apparently trading with several cities in Italy, and have some large gold mines set up in the Rhodope mountains (well the eastern ones)

Ye Olde Hegemony
Icu you need to be one of the eastern countries to use the silk road. I'll give you a hint; France aint in eastern europe :-| However bulgaria is. Also if we are going to go by wiki I have large gold mines and a talented metal crafting society.

Erm retech how much money am (or economic score) am I getting off of the silk road (icu I doubt my traders would give up a monopoly [where they make more cash] for a bit 'o cash)?

Ye Olde Hegemony
Erm you people do realize that this means I have a monopoly on silk (I am the only country using the silk road now; ergo I am the only supply). Anyways 1k pikemen, 300 knights, the knights apropriate number of men at arms, 1k swordsmen, 1k archers and 500 heavy horse archers are sent over to reinforce the assault on hungary. The battle formation will go as this: Swordsmen and men at arms in the front with pikemen guarding the sides and archers in the middle. The knights will be used to create cavalry charges against non spear/pike infantry and the heavy horse archers will be used to harry and generally attack enemy forces. In the event of a siege the catapults will toss plague infested corpses over the walls and the ballistae will take any archers or other siege weapons off of the wall with the help of the heavy horse archers and regular archers. The battering rams will be used to open up holes in the wall at which point balls of flaming pitch will be thrown in by the catapults/ ballistae/ trebuchets. The same battle formation will be used for infantry however cavalry will be used to cover the rear and chase/kill any escaping enemies. EDIT: Oh and any merchant from eden that tries to go along the silk road will be killed (well tortured then killed).

Your religion will not really affect how people will react to you (well depending upon how much they role play) Oh and the Bulgarian Orthodox church condemns this new "pagan" religion.

I really should think of a unique unit... maybe it will be naval! (either that or horse archers are my unique units [in that case I am still happy]) Anyways when is the next battle report retech?

Hmm how much would a line of forts around my borders cost? (let me check where my castles are) as well as some inter spread throughout the country? EDIT: Terrain map of europe Do you see what I see? (I'll give you a hint; its a line of flat grassland to get to western europe)

That would only work if there was no other way of the select population of getting fish (or very little) Thus making a monopoly on something like fish (well at least a widespread one) pretty much impossible. The same goes for most precious metals and steel; if you are not a very major provider you cannot really control the market without some help from others who produce (think having a group of nations forcibly drive up the price of... silk before selling at the high price and letting it crash again. EDIT: To retech: Exactly how much would a light horse archer cost?

The silk road is a trade route (that not only brings in silk products it also brings in things like oriental spices [also god dammit it looks like I have to be merciful this time around if I want to stick with rping as Ivan Asen II]) Also it is rather hard to monopolize that which others are exporting as well.

*cough* silk road reaches china *cough*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road Sadly you cannot monopolize what can be manufactured by others quite easily.

Okay then.... (RP time!) In a sunlit square in Tŭrnovo's keep a special ceremony is taking place. That ceremony is the execution of the last of the byzantine govenors to exist in bulgaria. The crowd roars as the King Ivan Asen the second strides onto the stage shimmering longsword in hand. He turns to face the doomed man and states "You have one minute to make your peace with god" before turning to face the crowd. After the cheering had finished he shouted "NEXT EASTER IN CONSTANTINOPLE!" and whips around cleaving off the praying mans head. This sends the crowd into a frenzy and they start chanting his name both volume and tempo increasing to a frenzied pitch. *Fade to black* The setup of the Second Bulgarian Empire: House Asen: Currently the most powerful house, the rulers are from this house and they own most of the land in Bulgaria. Specializes in military actions and has a specific type of heavily trained horse archers (type of ranged/melee light cavalry [think mongol hordes]). This house is also the second largest economic power in the Bulgarian empire. House Terter: Militarily the weakest house, house Terter is however the strongest economically as it owns several ports on the Mediterranean sea. They specialize in naval combat and the use of pikes and halberds. House Kaloyan: House Kaloyan is the house of priests quite frankly. They are the holy warriors (as well as missionaries) of bulgaria and hold most of the monasteries (remember monasteries are the centers of learning in europe) as well as the priesthood. The can if properly motivated move on religious crusades as a sort of heavy infantry/cavalry force. Anyways 20% of Bulgarias treasury goes to setting up a silk road (and not sharing it 'cause that's how Bulgaria rolls)

The Tip.It Hegemony v4
If we introduce magic I will be mother [bleep]ing sauron! FEAR MY RINGWRAITHS! Though how would we control and limit magic? Possibly make the need for spell books to be created? Divine magic? Use sacrifices (human or otherwise) to power large spells?

The Tip.It Hegemony v4
If we do hegemedieval I vote we use the slightly more realistic map (and possibly reassign countries?)
