  1. Its easier to see for me! No glares on the screen from any extra lights in the room. So I work during the week away from my setup right now and have to use my laptop. Let me tell you, its CRAZY how you get used to 2 monitors. I find using my laptop a PAIN now because I don't have enough screen space, I feel cramped. I'll never go back to using just 1.
  2. Not to mention all of the government hoops you have to jump through to get all of that. Especially the GI Bill...what a mess of confusing paperwork that is. And the healthcare....eh. As a reservist I find myself visiting many more civilian docs over the Navy docs when I have access to both. I've seen Navy docs do some crazy things, like pull out a guy's molars thinking they were wisdom teeth. I just trust civilian docs more, the only military docs I trust are Corpsman. USAA though like Barihawk said is great.
  3. Someone has to do it. To the OP. Someone has to die in the process too unfortunately. Are these not heros? People that give up their life so people can be free? American people, Allied countries people, the nation's we're in? People's freedoms and liberties are the same across the board. We don't always do it for ourselves. Its very misinterpreted that the US is fighting for America's freedom (An age old thing thats always been the subject of America's involvment in wars) in OIF...no thats incorrect. OIF = Operation Iraqi Freedom. We are doing it for them, not for us. We're more then egotistical fools, more then the world makes us out to be.
  4. Nice will. Yeah once I upgrade to 3 monitors i'll be using 2 GFX cards in Sli and a triplehead2go.
  5. I partially agree with you. Being a military member my thoughts are this: You're right. I'm just doing my job. It makes a lot of us uncomfortable to be told "thank you for your service". The real heros are carried back, and the ones that can't come back like me or the next guy. The heros come back in caskets on C-17s. I do feel though that I risk my life for America's freedom. I signed up to put myself in harms way before anyone in my family has to face it. I don't risk my life on a daily basis, but my job entails me to risk my life in certain situations. There are clear and present threats all around us today. Especially in Afghanistan. But you believe what the media wants you to believe. We've done many many many great things for the country of Iraq, its part of the reason we've been there so long. We've established a country they can start to feel proud of and hold to be their own, not a dictator's. Every day there are stories about heroic acts, they are just never recognized. I'd do just about anything for my fellow Marines, because I know they'd do the same for me. No, we are not KILLING many civilians. Iraq is very quiet right now and convoys are at a minimum. What you hear about now is Iraqi on Iraqi violence.
  6. I do have to drag my mouse across both screens, but there is hardly any input lag so its very fast and very smooth. I hardly notice it.
  7. I only want 3 to game on. Bigger field of view, nothing can sneak up on you ;) I'd never use more then 2 for internet/general computing purposes.
  8. Anyone else running 2 or more monitors on their computer? I just made the switch to 2 and WOW. 1 seems boring now. I'm running dual 24" Samsung 2494sw widescreens at a combined 3840 x 1080 resolution. Amazing, can't wait to add another to my setup already. Feel free to post your own pics and stuff, i'd love to see what other people are running. I'll add some more screens of other games as I get them. [Hide] [/Hide] Heres a picture of what I see in Runescape: [hide][/hide]
  9. My Clemson Tigers lost today :( Ah so close!! Was an amazing game, and CJ Spiller proved he should be a real Heisman candidate. Now we get to go get CHEATED out of a bowl game because the TERRIBLE FSU team is going to grab the Gator Bowl some how....
  10. That was a main selling point for me, free shipping on both of my monitors, $180 each. I didn't really see to many huge deals on GFX cards, so i don't feel like i missed out much there. Have to wait for Christmas/New Years sales.
  11. Nice. I wanted more stuff, specifically to get a new gfx card in preparation for 3 monitors, but I decided to wait. Going to see how 2 24" work for a while first. Newegg got HAMMERED on black friday. Took them 3-4 days to finally put my order through because of so many coming in. The boxes have been shipped though! Great Christmas present to myself.
  12. Just curious what everyone scored for their computers? I got a killer deal and went ahead and bit the bullet. I bought 2x 24" Samsung 2494SW computer monitors. Should be there when i get back from Iraq in about 2 weeks, I can't wait. I'll eventually be upgrading it to 3 total monitors in the near future for gaming.
  13. Bump! Lots of changes and developments lately. Clemson like I said earlier now is playing for the ACC Championship! Can't wait. We get a rematch with a GT team that we almost beat before. This week though its rivalry week, big games going on. I told you to watch out for Auburn as well, and they almost upset Alabama. I'm taking the ACC to go 2-1 against SEC opponents today. GT over UGA, Clemson over USC, and Florida beating FSU.
  14. Sorry about that, totally messed that up. I agree with your last statement.
  15. Yes. Berreta M9 is standard issue, 15 round magazines. So yes he did reload multipule times. I agree with you 100% about the rest above. Although its much easier to reload a pistol then a rifle, and you could easily stagger the shots so you still have a full pistol while reloading the other. Yes, should be. But there arn't as many MPs as you think. This is also because of the civilian police on base too (Contractors). The civilian police are the ones who ultimately fired the shots to take him down. It should of never happened. There are always warning signs. The dude gave away all of his furniture before he left to go do this, literally hours prior. Even just for a normal deployment, this isn't right. I still wouldn't hold others accountable for this.
  16. I can tell you from personal experience, not every Iraqi is bad, not every Muslim is bad. I can also tell you, again, that most bases in the US are not "Strongholds". Drivers license, car registration, and proof of insurance can get you onto most bases as a civilian. Military ID or military ID and DOD sticker can get you on even easier. The only explanation I can give for why he was up so long, was its the Army. I don't like to bash other branches to much, but the Army is very....special. Not my favorite to work with or be around at all. Heck, a lot of them don't even carry rounds on their person on Iraq FOBs. They are never prepared, and never quick to do anything. I'm sure there are those select few that are squared away and good to go, but the majority comes across to me as lazy and unprepared. Also like stated before, you don't carry loaded weapons on base. Military or Civilian. All weapons and ammo are checked into the armory. Weapons are only drawn for field exercises, right as you are deployed (literally like day of), and for the range. And then ammo is issued once you reach your destination. I didn't get ammo for my rifle until i set foot in Kuwait. Being militarily trained, you have other options....hand to hand. But again, its the Army, I don't put it past them to not do anything.
  17. True. A general military contract is 4x4, meaning 4 years of service and 4 years in the ready reserves (doing nothing, sitting at home waiting on a call), 6x2 is pretty popular too. If you re-enlist you can do it for 2 years if i remember correctly. So he had ample chances to say no and get out. You can also get separated, and still get an honorable discharge. He should of talked to a fellow doctor. Sadly, not true. Recruiting is just a B billet (Secondary job) thats filled by anyone that can qualify for it and only for a couple of years then they move back to their normal contract job. Like for the Marines you can either choose the drill field (Drill Instructor) or Recruiter as a B billet. Quality selection these days has given way to quota sadly. The recruiters get benefits for each person they lock in and have ship to basic training, so the more the better for them. Some are good some are bad, but its mostly all based on quota now and bad ones slip through the cracks. This is true, lots and lots of waiting for a very brief action sequence. As for the commercials, I agree, they show to much motivating stuff instead of telling you straight. The Marines just put out one thats probably one of the closest i've seen to the truth. One of my favorites actually. All imagines are straight from bootcamp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xWA1rp50rs
  18. Pretty sure he was older than you Kriegsmier. He was. And? Having joined right after High School he was a kid, and most that join these days are the same...kids. Does he not realize what the military does? He joined in peacetime sure, but that doesn't mean its a cakewalk. Maybe its just my view being skewed by the fact that "Every Marine is a Rifleman", maybe the Army doesn't have that idea....to me, anyone in any branch should be ready to pick up a rifle and do what they need to do to accomplish the mission regardless of MOS/job, rank, or gender. You think i chose to come to Iraq? I've been twice, here now on my second one and i didn't volunteer for either. No one wants to do it, but thats my job so i have to do it. I understood what could be asked of me when i signed up. Apparently, this guy did not.
  19. From what I've heard from military people, they never carry guns in the bases unless it's for the shooting range or some security detail You are correct. Unless on a training exercise, deploying, or at the range all weapons military AND civilian will be locked in the base armory. Another note to point out is, this guy was a Major. Meaning an officer of commanding status. He can do a lot more on a base then anyone enlisted. He shot these people as they prepared to deploy. Its quite easy to get on military bases, even these days. The government has tasked the security over to civilian contractors and the MPs just assist. So most of your security is going to be civilians, especially on Army and Navy bases. Its terrible what happened, but this just irks me the wrong way. Being in the military i understand how stressful it can be, but at the same time you have ample people there to help you with ANYTHING. He had to put in double digit years of service to become a Major...all of that time spent in and he snaps now? A Major being someone the enlisted men should respect and look up to and here this guy is afraid to go to Iraq? All he would do as a Major is sit on a base in an office somewhere with AC, Cable, and internet MY GOD! Sure he worked hearing the horror stories, but read the news, get some outside info OUTSIDE of the hospital...its very very calm over here now. I find it hard to believe he made it 12 years without being deployed at least once. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen, but don't take your crap and unloaded onto someone else. Thats a problem these days, kids join the military looking for money and benefits without thinking about what they might be made to do or told where to go. Freakin boot officers man...and these are the ones trying to lead us. I'm an E-3 and have just as many ribbons as him AND on my 2nd tour to Iraq. Pvt Nidal Malik Hasan's days are over. Let this fool rot in the brig. This guy won't see the light of day ever again. UCMJ Artcle 118 - MURDER. Good thing he didn't step foot off base, or he would be tried in Texas law as well.
  20. 20, maximum on the Marine Corps physical fitness test. Took me a while to get there though, I joined doing only 3, and stayed at 5 for almost a year. Best advice I can give is just do them, also do an overhand grip and use your back more then an underhand grip using just your biceps. It will be harder at first but trust me, its much easier once you work on it. You're grip shouldn't matter as much, as your arms won't be doing all of the work. When you get your chin above the bar, drop and use that momentum to just shoot back up. If you are trying to build muscle, do negatives. Don't just drop, but let yourself down slow and feel the burn.
  21. First year wasn't worth a Nobel peace prize...
  22. I think i saw this in the Back to the Future series. Biff ;) Though i'd do the same thing...
  23. If you want to actually make it to all those destinations you might want to hit Gettysburg last. Or Normandy. Depends when you attack. I just want to watch it unfold, in a ghostly type state where I can't be harmed.
