  1. as of no, i dont plan to announce it because i want crew apps to have max exposure, maybe after if people feel it's needed
  2. am i the only C# goon here? Gotta ask - have all of you java heads done it because of runescape being java based?
  3. C# . I code with visual studio 2008 professional. I've took classes in C, C++ and Java, i hated them until I got into C# with a kickass professor Like ninane, i'm not too sure if if I should count MySQL/MSSQL either.
  4. http://forum.tip.it/forum/235-programming-and-web-design/ It's live with rules. I couldn't resist #5! :P edit: Open Source is open source. Just give credit to the original author!
  5. 1) Do not post leaked source code or source code that is not open source - this is a serious legal issue and will be dealt with swiftly and harshly . 2) Do not post malicious or dangerous code - such as code that could damage someones machine, be used to cause damage/keylog or etc . This will be dealt with swiftly and HARSHLY with a likely 30 day ban for a first offense. 3) We will not do your homework for you. However if you make a good faith effort - and have issues with something small and need help, thats fine, but no - no one will do your homework for you from the ground up 4) Do not share or post links to compiled [Caution: Executable File]s. There is no guarantee that the file posted has the contained source code on the post. 5) Remember we were all novices at code once - I say this as a coder myself - don't use your knowledge to be a tool, use it as a tool to educate. ~Das
  6. darkdude is right, i have no issue with people coming with help on a schoolwork project or assignment as long as they have made a good faith effort on doing it. Sometimes an extra pair of eyes during debugging is critical. I was thinking could be used for code. xD
  7. Joe's correct, i'm uncomfortable with passing [Caution: Executable File]s around from user to user - although i trust people like yguy and dsavi to - i'd rather just make it illegal because i can see that being abused easily. also posting no say leaked source code to half life 2 or something xD. or source code of a program like word, runescape, something with an owner with money who can get pissy.
  8. hope to put this up tomorrow evening EST.. Need to write the rules up for it, and not doing it at 1:35 AM.... While I sleep and go to class, any rules in particular you guys want? I'm thinking No Malicious code No Homework Help No recompiling other programs?
  9. With the games popular release - we are proud to introduce the war of legends forum!

it's a logical risk that all items such as godswords that can enter the game by a drop will decline in price over time. It's a logical risk that when you break a rule to get banned - the market will carry on without you. while an item losing a small percentage of it's worth is ashame - it's more of ashame you did something to be banned in the first place. On a more administrative note. Calm down everyone.
  13. Update: this has been approved, hammering out final details Look for this around early/mid next week!
  14. I'm going to pretend the story is true - but the timeline here has to be fabricated. For starters I work for an ISP. With an IP address alone - jagex has no clue where you live, they can geo-locate you to your city at best., but nothing like your personal address. If they had an IP - They would have to call a provider. Even if the tech identified right away it's not a prank (happens often) - your regular email/phone contact guy isn't going to just be able to say "this IP belongs to customer X" That's unrealistic to give a front line guy that much power - they will NEVER need it. For starters there is a load of confidentially laws involved with handing over that information (Contact info) got from the IP - I doubt an ISP would just "Give" jagex the name/address/phone of the person - Most ISP's would only hand that over with a warrant, it's not a selfish thing to do - You have to protect yourself in lawsuit happy america. thats a big opening for a lawsuit on the ISP side for the ISP - But even if they did - engineering would have to get that IP connected to a customer - and depending on the workload of that department that might take 20-30 minutes itself - lets not forget that at night or early in the morning it might take longer.

Family guy references quite alot of american pop culture from the 80s and 90s which people can relate too - and find funny. It's the reason i own every season out on dvd.
  17. A verdict so soon? This hasn't even been open for 24 hours. Personally, i'm agaisnt the idea of a homework subforum - because I fear it will encourage academic dishonesty. It seems like awful ambigous idea to require a user to put forth a "good faith effort" before posting the problem, some people are more apt than others and will be able to show more work, and people stumped who may need a tutor - may get flamed for not knowing the work or look like they might be trying to "Cheat". That being said - if you need help that bad - you probably won't want to come to a forum of gamers for homework assignments on the whole, I myself would much rather go to an educational forum and seek such guidance.
  18. I'd say Programming to be fair is just as deserving of it's on forum as roleplayers, artists, poets, and any other sub group not relating directly to runescape. It has multi purposes. For starters it's nice to have a community to help you debug - talk about hot issues and the sort and help optimize code. Most of us with programming experience (*Raises hand* would be able to swiftly remove any posts that would pertain to anything "illegal" or "unethical". Think of it as "Stories" told by code. Coder communities can be very closely knit - and I see this as a potential place to find coders for the website as well down the line. The idea is bloody brilliant and i'm pushing to get it set up soon

  20. i'd like to say that although photoshop is a plus - we are not going to toss an app out because you may or may not have it. The application process is intricate and detailed and involves everything from your security to your forum history as far as "bad stuff" to your posts (do you troll? flame? intelligent poster?), contributions (do you submit corrections, help out) and much more including the answers to the application questions.. I can say pretty confidently photoshop won't be the final or even major factor in any application. Best of luck to any who apply and if you honestly want to be crew - apply and give it a whirl at submitting an application because it doesnt hurt to apply.

I don't think LOTR had quite as many beheadings... But yeah, the violence was used well, it's just not my cup of tea. Lotr lobbed quite a few orc's heads at helms deep, rohan battle etc. The violence in eli really was mild and it really to me sold parts of the story - tastefully done (no pointless gore, and blood was rather minimal) and the first fight scene was done masterfully with beautiful cinematic angles.
  22. At Tip.it we strive to maintain a safe and secure environment for our users and staff. In any position of power a compromised account can cause damage to the site and we seek to minimize this risk as much as possible. all of the submitted information is confidential and we have a strict policy on confidentially. So all of the information submitted will remain private. They say in security - you are only as strong as your weakest link - in an effort to attempt to thwart this age old mantra we feel that if we have basic standards for security - that we will keep our users and site safe by not having a weak link. While i'm not saying hack's cannot happen - we have found that by setting a reasonable standard this has helped minimize threats and issues. I hope this answers your questions and if you or any one else have any concerns about security i'll be happy to field them ~Das

Haha, there's no way that's a compliment, but I'm going to pretend it is. :P Actually from me it is - as I think he's a hell of an actor. All of my pictures were taken by my girlfriend... Just putting that out there :) Uh huh - making the fanboys drool more eh?
  24. Not true. If you've actually been to the South you would know that although there is a rivalry between the South and the North, most people in the South aren't the stereotypical Rednecks that you just described. The rivalry is more along the lines of "the people in the North are Yanks, and we're Southerners". From what I've seen, Southerners treat 'Yanks' better than 'Yanks' treat Southerners. When I moved into Kansas during fifth grade, I was ridiculed a lot because I was from the South and had a Southern accent. Some of the teachers even treated me like I was intellectually inferior because I was from the South... In rural areas of the South, you have more of the stereotypical stuff, but it's completely different in metropolitan areas. It really just depends on where you go, but it's by no means a majority of the population. I will agree a little bit about the racism. There is still a large amount of racism due to the predominantly black population that has finally overwhelmed the white population, especially in poverty-stricken regions. It exists on both sides, and both sides accuse each other of wrongdoing. The blacks argue that the whites are repressing them, and the whites argue that the blacks are stealing from them, murdering them, and raping their daughters. In these areas you have a lot of crime from the black community (thus fueling white resentment against blacks); there are just a lot of problems in these areas, and I don't really see them ending anytime soon. In metropolitan areas, however, there is a lot less racism. Younger whites are generally more tolerant. Of course, these are just my observations; people in these aforementioned areas might view things differently from how I just described them. As a southerner - I can attest to this and agree with this post. Racism works both ways down here - not as extreme as he described if you ask me - but i've met many blacks who resent whites just the same as i've met whites who resent blacks. And we may of "lost" but we will never lose our pride in our "heritage". That flag is a symbol of pride and robert e lee is an icon down here, and will always be one

i didn't really find the film violent - I guess i've seen enough slashers/gorefests to see it as tasteful violence - to be fair - LOTR/Braveheart had the same levels of gore in my mind.... I do fear this is going to turn into a religious thread - but it was not your typical religious movie and it should be seen for moe than that
