  1. Colonizing. Orbiting. Praying to God that there's a new useful metal in there so that I'm not financially dead. Hey, you asked.
  2. Yep, and I'll thrive anyways. And Hex, it's not unfair. Does the fact that I can shoot a beam of ions at ship to blow a hole in it and you can't make the game unfair? No, I researched them. Also, Naptian taxes have been increased to 20%. Any extremely violent rioters have been imprisoned while still having to pay the tax out of what they would have made were they not in prison.
  3. Yes, but that would require me to increase my population over 80x what it is now. Or increase my GDP per capita to 80x what it is now. Or increase my taxes to... well... a lot more than they are right now.
  4. Oh. Wow. I am now sincerely hoping that my colonists going to Oruguma or the ships finding a spot for New Hope will find some strange new metal there. Because if they don't, Napta is going to be financially toast.
  5. Acceleration Engine: 13/18 Electric Shield: 13/20 New Hope Space Station: 13/27 TONSIL: 6/10 Mini-Hopes: 4/5 Ion Weaponry: 4/7 Project Freon: 4/15 Station at Oruguma:2/6 (I rounded it up so I don't have to keep track of post times) Another section of New Hope is up, containing fuel, fuel, and, well, fuel. The fuel will be used for moving New Hope into the asteroid field. Second stage of ion weapons have been produced, so I now have ion rifles and radioactive ion cartridges. TONSIL continues progressing, as my scientists have actually been able to create an edible substance using waste and small amounts of oxygen from the dioxide exchanger. They have nicknamed the food "Plan Z," as it is tasteless and not very nutritious, but does provide energy. They are now working on making this process fully automated. Two more Mini-Hopes have been constructed and are on their way to the asteroid belt to find a potential place for New Hope. They should find one by the time New Hope is complete. Project Freon has managed to turn a cat into a conscious fluid. Also, they have realized that conscious fluids still retain their previous thoughts, memories, and dispositions, as the fluid cat has been trying to eat the fluid rat for some time now. Also, the fluid cat can do complex trigonometry, but only when fed tuna. I guess that's what happens when you use a cat. Research continues, and they are attempting to make a conscious-fluid frog, bat, and mole. Also, are we letting people use their whole GDP now or something? Because Hex has 80 billion GDP, and he's using up 60 billion and saying he has 20 billion of surplus. I'm confused, because I was told that I can only use 1/4 of what I tax from the people for research and building.
  6. The king's messenger came and visited the guy while he was in SC. You stole the message.... poor guy will never be able to do Regicide now.
  7. Ah. Well, they're developing ion weaponry, but not of the sort you guys are thinking of. Instead of ionising the air, these shoot a fixed amount of ions, an "ion beam," so to speak, at a target. The ammunition is a cartridge filled with ions of varying types depending on whether or not you want any different effects or not. (I.E. a radioactive ion cartridge would cause very small amounts of subatomic particles flying out as well.) It's like a laser, but shooting microscopic particles instead of energy. Also, depending on the number of ions, damage can be a simple cut or the effects of a .55 sniper round. The.55 sniper round-effect bullet would, of course, cost more and require a larger weapon. They also have a cooldown time that compensates for their extra power. I picked 7 because, well: 1 years to figure out how it works. 1 year to develop small weapons. (like pistols) 2 years to develop medium-sized weapons (like rifles) 3 years to develop it into large-scale weapons (like cannons.) And these will not be "perfection" designs. Heck, NONE of what I'm coming up with will work perfectly. They'll work, but will require more research in the future towards efficiency. Much like how TONSIL is improving on the design of the dioxide exchanger. The ammunition isn't exactly cheap if you buy it as ions itself, but with some tech that I will research eventually that is based off of the dioxide exchanger, only more precise, will allow you to buy cheap materials (basically garbage) and then turn them into ion weaponry cartridges. And if necessary, I can come up with reasoning for all my other research times as well.
  8. Isn't an EMP just a magnified EM field though? And also, EM fields do disturb electronics. A magnet has an EM field (move it over a copper wire, it makes electric energy), and you keep it away from computers. Why? Because it'll screw up your computer.
  9. Acceleration Engine: 12/18 Electric Shield: 12/20 New Hope Space Station: 12/27 TONSIL: 5/10 Mini-Hopes: 3/5 Ion Weaponry: 3/7 Project Freon: 3/15 Next section of New Hope has gone up, containing the ion pistols, a barracks, and a break room for government employees. Project Freon has made a slight discovery - they have genetically engineered a rat into what they call a "conscious fluid". This fluid is still conscious (and thus alive) and interacts with its environment with electronic pulses (similar to a jellyfish, but the pulses are used for sensing where it is rather than killing food), but is extremely weak to any attack as well as being incapable of movement. The fluid itself currently takes up a volume of about a liter. Tests show that this fluid is also extremely intelligent compared to its former form, meaning that the one they currently have can do basic algebra. However, it needs to be "fed" (fed being a relative term due to how it eats) rather frequently. Tests are being conducted to see if this can be done to cats or other semi-intelligent beings, as well as tests to see if they can come up with any other new species. The Electric Shield project has managed to create a shield around a small model of Iceland. They are now working to have this implemented. Two more Mini-Hopes have been created, and they as well as my other two have been loaded up with 1,000 people and equipment necessary to make a small station (nowhere near the size of New Hope) orbiting Oruguma in the Yguah system. This trip will take 2.144 years to get there, another 3 years to set up the station, and then 2.144 more years for my Mini-Hopes to return to Earth. So a 7.228 year project. (I'm not listing it in my official projects, though, as it is not research. Also, since it is not research, it has been funded by a branch of the government other than the research branch.) The station will have basic necessities for life (dioxide exchanger, lots of food) as well as a small shipyard, which will be used for ships I will research later. It will need resupplying (the supplies will take 1 Mini-Hope) every 10 years or so. So if anyone wants to rent the shipyard until I need to use it, I'll rent it cheap. Just be sure to bring your own food. Since Iceland has reached the point of interstellar expansion, it is now renamed to the country of Napta. Currently, Napta's capital is in Iceland; however, the capital will move to the New Hope space station once it's complete.
  10. Old rubbish machine is still machine.
  11. Odd Old Man paid you HOW much for those furs?!?
  12. Dude, I signed the treaty. Where have you been?
  13. My military strength currently consists of: 1 half-finished but severely armed (for its current size) space station 2 Mini-Hopes armed with ion pistols About 300,000 men trained in ninjutsu and hacking. Yeah, that does seem pretty small.
  14. I believe we have a "Noobs say the funniest things!" thread for this.
  15. Acceleration Engine: 11/18 Electric Shield: 11/20 New Hope Space Station: 11/27 TONSIL: 4/10 Mini-Hopes: 2/5 Ion Weaponry: 2/7 Project Freon: 2/15 Next section of New Hope has gone up, containing the warp drive and secondary command centre. The shipyard creating Mini-Hopes has been built, along with two of the Mini-Hopes. There have been small developments in the Ion Weaponry project, scientists are now capable of shooting a steady ion beam from a machine the size of a handgun. Movements are being made to give this to the Icelandic army as soon as possible. Project Freon continues on, with no visible results yet. A bit of info on New Hope and the Mini-Hopes: New Hope will be a self-sufficient station in the Asteroid Belt of the Sol system. It will be completely capable of this due to the dioxide exchanger, the magnetic accelerator, TONSIL, and a couple of small asteroid colonies. The only time it will take in/export supplies from its Iceland colony or any other planet/nation is if a new mineral or element is found in an asteroid, if international diplomacy is needed, if there is new tech that may be useful on the station, occasional tourism, and/or a combination of the four. It will also be the capital of the nation of Napta. Mini-Hopes take up about 1/2 sq. mi. of area and are shaped like semi-circles. They are mainly to be used for human/cargo transport, and are capable of sustaining about 1,000 people apiece, while needing extra supplies only once a year. They can also be used for transport of diplomats, or as small warships if the need arise. They will be armed with ion weaponry and capable of current technology's FTL travel. Once the current surge of production is done, one of these will be produced every 1.5 years in my shipyard in Iceland, costing me $750 million apiece.
  16. Hey, I didn't deny the treaty. I just saw no point in signing it at the time because I had no space tech other than New Hope. But I'll sign it now that the Mini-Hopes are being produced.
  17. Oh, just you wait. The mini-Hopes will be done soon enough, and you can bet that I'll be using them to build orbiters mining Saturn's rings, as well as going to other places... TO INFINITY AND BEYOND! [/obviousbuzzlightyearripoff] Not to mention I don't need a whole stinking system to myself.
  18. Whee, new thread! I'll just repost my projects, history & plans. (The history and plans won't sound exactly the same as before, but meh.) Projects: Acceleration Engine: 10/18 Electric Shield: 10/20 New Hope Space Station: 10/27 TONSIL: 3/10 Mini-Hopes: 1/5 Ion Weaponry: 1/7 Project Freon: 1/15 History & Plans: Iceland is a nation that was liberated through a peaceful revolutionary means from Europa, now known as the Terran Federation, 10 years ago. Iceland has since joined the EA and begun work on multiple diverse projects and, with some generosity from various nations, has prospered. One of these projects is the currently being built New Hope Space Station, which will become the capital of what will be known as Napta. This station will be based in the Asteroid Belt of the Sol system, and then Iceland will be known as a colony of Napta.
  19. It's currently Iceland, it will be renamed Napta once the New Hope station is up and running, and the New Hope station will be the capital. Just for clarification. ;) Also, you people are just too darn generous. I intend to return that generosity once Napta has gained a bit more funding. (Since I sure as heck won't be able to return the gesture while my country's still Iceland.) Well, since I now have $50B more, I un-stall those two projects and feed a bit more funding into the Freon project. Freon now is costing me $2b/yr and will take 15 years, hopefully with more results. Edit: I intend for a good deal of my population to remain human. And I'm not entirely sure what my scientists will come up with, but I know they'll make it good. (Basically, I have an idea (sort of) but it's still a little foggy, and I want to get the project going now so that I don't have to start it later.)
  20. Well I don't intend for it to be a severe race change. No people turning into rocks or anamorphic jellies or anything like that.
  21. Wait, so first you say my time is too long, then you say it's too short? What?
  22. Well, I have to do it cheaper. Iceland doesn't exactly have 50 billion to blow on race-changing. And if you want to do something cheaper, that means it will usually take longer. Also, list of current projects: Acceleration Engine: (STALLED)10/18 Electric Shield: (STALLED)10/20 New Hope Space Station: 10/27 TONSIL: 3/10 Mini-Hopes: 1/5 Ion Weaponry: 1/7 Project Freon: 1/10
  23. Alright then, I have begun a race-changing project. I'm calling it Project Freon. This will be a HPE experiment (Hidden from the Public Eye) until it's completed, and even then only the results will be published. Should take 10 years and about 9 billion overall. Results are.... well, unpredictable. Also, in order to fund this project, the motor project and the shield project have been temporarily stalled, and taxes have been increased to 17.5%. Edit: Oh, backstory. Well, Iceland became its own nation through a non-violent revolt involving alarm clocks and sabotage. After this, we became a part of the EA and have since begun development on the New Hope space station and the Mini-Hope FTL ships. The New Hope Space station currently orbits Earth in an unfinished state, but when it IS finished, it will be orbiting the Sun in the asteroid field, occasionally sending mining parties onto the larger asteroids. The Mini-Hopes are mainly going to be used a couriers for said mining expeditions, but will also ferry dimplomats and people moving from Iceland to New Hope. New Hope will be the capital of my galactic nation, which will be called Napta. Iceland will simply become a colony of Napta once New Hope is complete and moved into place. Napta also intends to remain a part of the EA. There, all backstory I have and a little bit of future plans.
  24. Okay then.... but would that mean I'd have to start over? I kinda want to keep the New Hope station and the Mini-Hopes....
  25. I have a question. What if we want to have half of our population be human, and the other half be like elves or something? (I don't actually intend to use elves, that was just an example)
