Napoleonic Hegemony
Note how these were not exactly THE superpowers back in the day. -------- In an attempt to forstall any wars between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire (which were too common!), I am allowing you to take most of the really small blue countries right below Russia (except one blop or so, since I need a port!), unless it turns out they're my vassals.

Landgrabbing is fun. The only reasons trade routes didn't work were: 1. I was lazy. I didn't update them at all basically 2. Trade routes increased economy, not budget directly. Instead make it increase economy (or something cumalative which affects the budget every year), and give you a lump sum of money. It would be like chips, except that instead of making it a game mechanic, have it as something that actually does something (like you can steal trade routes, or intercept them, etc). If you wanted to conquer, you couldn't risk the money in trade and had to go for it immediately, but if you were at peace and had some money to spare, you could make a trade route. It could potentailly give a big return, and trading over time would give you a cumalative boost to your budget. Of course, Dusty has to decide a system that's convienient for him in the end, since he might find that like me, he doesn't want to deal with everyone's budget every time.

Of course it's better to give everyone a tonne of money everytime they pass go. Except that we have to make troops cost per deployment, rather than for purchase. That was a big flaw, which is fixed by deployment. So, there is no issue to that. Chips just make it more complicated, because no leader in their right mind would bet tax money on gambling with such large amounts. Somewhat arbitrary (budget numbers) is better than completely arbitrary (chips).

Modernization isn't quite the same as you envisaged it. Russia was behind the trends during the Napoleanic era, so they began transforming the country to catch up to the Western Europeans. Its concepts of individual liberty were extremely distorted, and its government was an autocracy. And I don't like the chips system. That's what trade (in all senses of the word. Includes investing in merchantile companies and stuff) is for.

The great thing about Russia is its natural resources and large population. Once I get some nice modernization going, Russia should be pretty secure. Communist revolution????? :)

:S I'll just take Russia I suppose.

Damnit, Prussia and Austro-Hungary have been taken! Oh, are we starting with equal budget or something?

Ye Olde Hegemony
Technically Dungeonal won. I put Dusty came in second, and Doom in third. Had Dungeonal decided to attack Dusty, he would've been bankrupt and Dungeonal still had the majority of his budget. Did anyone notice this was only up for a month? It seems like such a long time.

Ye Olde Hegemony
Okay, I have decided that this Hegemony has nicely burned itself out. I've run out of the will to continue (it's hard to write such large battle reports!), and the barrage of complaints after writing each one doesn't help much either. So, as the Emporer of the Holy Roman Empire, I grant Dungeonal the title of Holy Roman Emporer. Dusty has been appointed to replace the Duke of Bavaria, and Doom takes her place as the Duchess of Saxony. And so Christianity was supplemented by a new religion, borne from the womb of the Holy Roman Empire, led by the Holy Trinity of Dungeonal, Doom, and Dusty. Hope everyone had fun and enjoyed themselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iXmIjpGsGc ------------------ Doom, could you please remove all posts after this one, , lock the thread, and remove anything under the dashed line, including the line? Thanks.

I have to say. It's the Cambrian extinction.

The Back Room
There's no one stopping someone from restarting any of those games. Either the premise is bad or there is no interest.

Dungeons & Dragons
Orlly. Well you could just make all of them even except one.
-
Dungeons & Dragons
But it's common logical sense! It's not nearly the same as giving a wizard a greataxe because it deals the most damage. Just using points efficiently. :P

Dungeons & Dragons
Icu, I suggest you use even numbered statistics. Then you can get the biggest modifier for your buck.

Dungeons & Dragons
You don't have to. My character is chaotic good, but she isn't devoted to a god, because Drow goddesses never seem to have power outside the underdark.

Dungeons & Dragons
Well I'm a cleric, so I don't really need those if everyone else has them. I can just heal myself with some spells.
