Dwarf fortress
(This is my thought process as I read through the new entry on my artifact page, following my mason's completion of his possessed mood.) "Ooh, my legendary artifact is finished." Zirilnonub "The Fiery Punch" a magnetite ring. "Magnetite, why the hell is everything around here made of magnetite? Heh, ZIRILNONUB PUUUNCH!" This is a magnetite ring. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. This object menaces with spikes of iron. "Nice, nice. Good so far, though I wish he hadn't used my new batch of iron. Might give it to the Speardwarf." On the item is an image of Pantcruxes the magnetite table in magnetite. "Goddamnit!"

Yup, but you can't sell legendary artifacts. Which means I'm stuck with a damned magnetite table called Leromkifed "Pantcruxes" that was made in a possessed mood. <_< Also, I just bought an exceptional artifact steel spear and shield for my best military dwarf, as well as silver bolts to melt down for hammers and two steel anvils. Oh, and one of my Masons got possessed, but he isn't moving at all.

Ross, can you give me an answer to that? If I set a pad to go off on a goblin, will it activate when my horse trots through?

Erm, do all creatures trigger floodgates, or just hostile ones? I have a constant flow of cats, dogs, and civilians going in and out so... Would one of them trigger it?

You'd think so, wouldn't you... Anyways, what weapons do you recommend for the purpose of outfitting my military, Ross? The Sheriff, at least, will be armed with a hammer. Also, I have access to iron and steel but no other weapon metal is available. I have lots of wood for fuel, and some coke as well. Should I use iron first or skip straight to steel? Also, for a drowning hall, I need to put pressure pads through the entire thing right?- Dwarf fortress
Right you are, but I haven't had a strange mood until now. My miner got possessed and made an unadorned magnetite artifact table. Perfect, I needed a new traction bench! :shades:- Dwarf fortress
Ross, you of all people should know you can only use coal, lignite and wood for fuel! My last several fortresses are on clay and sand, that's why I have to make another mine shaft. Heh, similar problem here a while ago. Issues with the farmer/brewer and my irrigation system, followed by 4 deaths and the start of a tantrum spiral. Just before the last immigration wave everything was calming down, then one miner went mad and the other melancholy. Which restarted the spiral among the first generation dwarves who were just starting to recover. Thank Armok for my luck with immigration waves, I get new dwarves with the needed skills just in time to fill newly vacant positions. Not to mention, the old don't commingle with the new so the immigrants stay happy. Lowest happiness is 0, highest is 402! Also, a question: Why shouldn't I simply build a massive wall around the gamemap to prevent incursions by enemies? I can have an intricate system of trapped gates to allow friendly access to the fortress while keeping out enemies! Is that actually a possible concept?- Dwarf fortress
My fortress isn't too bad, all the original dwarves 1st wave migrants have pretty much all died off except for the farmer/brewer and mason, and they all started going insane and dying just as the 2nd wave of migrants arrived so those stayed relatively "uninfected." Things are fairly stable, I have enough food and drink, and I have a considerably good military from the fact that almost every migrant seems to have combat training. My next enterprise is mining lignite and gems from the ocean wall on the opposite corner of the map through a separate digsite. Shouldn't be too hard.- Dwarf fortress
Sooo now we have yet another tantrum spiral in the works. Thankfully the immigrants had no chance to get to know anyone, so they are the least succeptible to the lurking madness. And the expedition leader went berserk killing a Rhesus Macque, my last two wardogs and the legless militia recruit before my second best military dwarf caved in his skull. There goes my hospital. <_<- Dwarf fortress
For the love of Armok! My Woodcutter went on a tantrum killing my Cheesemaker, removing the legs of a promising young army recruit, cutting off the left arm of my only Animal Dissector, and cutting off the left leg of my best Tanner before my militia captain punched him in the face and shattered bits of skull into his brain.- Dwarf fortress
Well then... My new Metalsmith immigrant dwarf went into a Secretive Strange Mood as soon as he entered the fortress... I only had one anvil which I had not yet installed in a workshop... Therefore, I only have one forge until he leaves his mood... Which means no metal of any sort... AND HE'S DEMANDING METAL BARS. Goddamnit! 'Tis a hard time for Pillarplans...- Dwarf fortress
Right now I have 9 dwarves, 7 of which are sane. Before the downwards spiral I had... wait, I had 13... Well, crap. Guess I do have an unlucky number. Anyways, fort's relatively stable for now. Everyone still sane has been drafted into the planter and brewer corps, and though I lost all of my bluefish when a tirading miner pulled a lever he wasn't supposed to. Could've been worse, I suppose, he could've potentially flooded the entire farm area. And ooooh crap, just got 18 migrants. Wish my flood tunnel was hooked up.- Dwarf fortress
Brewer, Gem Cutter, Blacksmith, and Carpenter are ALL DEAD. A possible tantrum spiral is looming, but we've begun brewing new drinks. I might just survive this. Aaaaand the weaponsmith just stole the socks from all the corpses. I don't think that's a sane reaction, I'm keeping an eye on him.- Dwarf fortress
NONONONONONONONONONO! I'm all out of alchohol and all the water is salt! If my farms can't get harvested in time I'm dead! (BTW, I hope this is an ok thread to double-post on, at least for updates on fortress progress, if anyone has a problem with my double posting I'll stop.)- Dwarf fortress
Ooh, my flood room went even better than imagined! It is not only flooded with water, but with bluefish! Huzzah!- Dwarf fortress
Are Administrators in any way useful? If not, this one seems to have decent skills for... oh, say... FRONTLIIIIINE INFANTRY!- Dwarf fortress
Mine is going along fine. Two immigrants, and with them an animal or two. Thank Armok, slaughtered the donkey just in time to prevent my food stores running out. And in no time at all I should have a good few farms going.- Dwarf fortress
Wow, I just got two migrants. One's a talented blacksmith, the other an adequate gem cutter. Too bad I didn't get any children or nobles, I wanna test this drowning chamber.- Modern Warfare
So two of the special forces would be miners, one would be a woodcutter and mechanic, one would be a carpenter and fisher, one would be a mason and building designer, one would be a farmer and brewer, and the last would be a doctor and the leader?- Last one to post wins
Barricading yourself in the Falador Tavern to escape memes? Smaaaaaart.- The Back Room
Ross, why do I get the sense that you might like Demon's Souls?- Dwarf fortress
Hm, Ross, A sealed drowning chamber is a legitimate concept? It's a hallway hooked up to a floodgated chamber hooked up to the ocean. _______XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXF __D____XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXFXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXX_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXFXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXX_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXX_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX __D Are two floodgates leading to the chamber enough? I made sure both rooms had an about equal number of squares, with the water holding room having just a bit more. I want to make sure the water releases in time to push any building destroyers back.- Modern Warfare
^ Hate that. My characters always end up having the protagonist/Night Angel syndrome. Get forced into quests and gooddoing when I'm trying to simply have fun. <_< Remember the time I tried making a bar? Then Ross decided he was bored, and a golem went on a rampage and my bar blows up.- Something Zombie Related
