Temporary Dungeoneering
I carefully continue playing the lute with my non-maimed hand after strapping the quarterstaff to my back. I walk down the road towards the village. Also, when I'm away from the bear I check my money.

Temporary Dungeoneering
I attempt to reclaim the finger, then head in the direction of Archi while ripping a piece of cloth off of my tunic to tightly tie the finger back in place.

Temporary Dungeoneering
I slowly sit down crosslegged a short distance from the bear. I slowy put the quarterstaff across my lap, and take out the lute. I bow my head and begin to softly play, using sound magic to try producing a quiet, soothing sound. If the bear is calmed, I slowly hold out a hand to it, with the fingers curled so as not to be open and not a fist.

Late response. o.O Eh, I'll laugh at you after I manage to jump into a castle via the window while you're still stuck breaking down a gate. Presuming there's another castle next to it to jump off of...

Falador Library-NEW POLL
I honestly think the Library should be a subforum. Combining things that were meant to be separate just doesn't seem right to me, I guess the Library could be deleted though. Please, I would like it if you could move back all the threads, and I hope the forums don't get merged.

Temporary Dungeoneering
Because if anyone join in later they won't know where to start? We might get new users, what with Retech's posting in OT. Username: Nexaduro Character name: I don't want fellow players calling me by it, considering they wouldn't know, so just go with my player name in the reports for now. Description (it's actually really helpful to choose a distinctive trait!): Dull gold hair, with similar eyes and pale skin. Carries a wooden quarterstaff ornately banded with a dark steel (essentially, just a quarterstaff) and appears to be somewhere in his late teens or early twenties. About 6', moderately thin but not gangly. History: He turned up on the riverside several years ago, wearing an odd, scorched steel breastplate as well as ornate robes. He was covered in ash, a mangled and once ornate metal contraption of some sort connected to the back of his armour, inlaid with a strange, cracked jewel. He was coughing and yelling to unseen comrades to "Aid him against the demon," and eventually fell completely unconscious. He woke up occasionally while being cared for by some of the more generous and well-off farmers, never speaking and shying away from contact, seemingly especially terrified of children. After he regained his health, he began working on the farm with those who helped his recovery. Unfortunately, he never spoke again, and it was assumed that he is unable to because of some sort of damage caused by inhalation of the ash covering his body when he was found. He often didn't need to, and made his demands clear through gesticulation and nodding. He is apparently able to read and write, his adopted family often spotting him writing in a journal. No one was ever able to read the journal, as he was fiercely protective of its contents. He was devastated by the loss of his family, and seeks to find a new home in the world. He has an affinity for music, particularly the lute, and tutored several of the older villagers in music so that they, in turn, could teach the children he feared to look upon. None of the musical students survived, though ironically most of the instruments were salvaged. Unique quality (see below): 1.0 Sound Magic I roughlydraw a lute (not a flute, it's a string instrument) on the ground with a stick in response to the elder's question. After recieving the instrument, I bow to him and hurry up the path, going down the left fork. Also, can you rename threads Doom? Or can the admins?

Glore Vyrden directly translates to life magic in a language of the series, I can't remember which. It doesn't mean a kind of magic, it refers to innate magic and magic potential. It's like mana, but for non-magic-users it's essentially adrenaline, that one-second boost at a critical time that might allow you to go beyond the capabilities of a human that isn't under your control. I don't like the Earthsea system. I still like my idea, but I wasn't thinking of using it for a D'neering remake. I think Dungeoneering was fine as it was, there was no reason not to use magic because it was so much funner and more versatile. I think the necessary question is, why does mundane combat need to be a relevant part of it save for the sake of roleplaying? EDIT: The very balance for powerful magic in D'neering was high expectations. We were never too powerful because we were never too smart.

The Back Room
Edel, that was an example of the concept. Almost every magic is based off of the existence and manipulation of energy possessed by the magic user. I can't remember, but does magic in Earthsea not partly base it's strength on some trait of the user?

Ack. Retech was already suggesting classes to limit characters to specific schools of magic, it seemed like you guys were complaining about the freedom. Mine even allows for freedom outside classes, it just changes how you start.

It just seems wrong, Doom. I don't know why... But I think an archive would be cool. The only reason not to make is that it would probably take a little work on the part of whoever it is that handles threadmaking on this forum, and it would be cool to have our history in one place.

Falador Library-NEW POLL
Doom, then why not delete the Library? Or better yet, the Falador Archives! We could move old, unused roleplays as well as the Hegemony stickies there so that they don't clutter the Tavern, but they don't get deleted. It would be perfect, providing inspirations and glimpses of history while keeping the Tavern current and easy to navigate. Why not do that?

The Back Room
Magic was what made Dungeoneering fun. Everything was so amazingly powerful and over-the-top by normal standards, and yet we never really felt like gods because there was danger everywhere. Grim incinerated an army, while Icu kept getting killed though he was even more powerful and fairly intelligent. MAJOR IDEA: Lau'knaught Armour of Unbelief! Works like this: The mundane is, by nature, anathema to magic. The less a person uses magic, the less vulnerable they are to it, which means that by extension greater magical strength ends in greater weakness to magic. Greater disparity between the normal and paranormal ends in nature and magic warring against each other, which means that pure magical strength makes elemental manipulation more difficult. Sounds confusing, but it works so well if you can understand. Definition of magical strength would work kinda like this: (from the Wikipedia article on the Night Angel Trilogy) "A Talented individual must have three different components to be able to express their Talent outwardly. The first is their Glore Vyrden, or life magic. This is the reserve that stores the power that can be directed as the user wishes. The second component is the ability to refill one's glore vyrden when it's empty - if one doesn't possess it, then they can use magic only once or twice during their whole lives. A person with such an ability usually replenishes their glore vyrden by absorbing sunlight or light from other sources. The final component is a conduit allowing the use of one's Glore Vyrden however they desire. This conduit can be small or blocked, limiting the maximum amount of magic one can use at a single time." Also, for Holy/God-based magics: "The vir is used by Meisters, Vürdmeisters and the Ursuul family. Vir users are also referred to as wytches, though this term insults them. When the people of Khalidor pray to Khali, their goddess, she takes a small portion of their glore vyrden and siphons it into her "reservoir" of magic; she then returns however much she desires back to them as vir. Like the Talent, it can act as an extension of the physical being. The difference between vir and Talent is that the vir is living, and has a measure of sentience, mostly because it is part of Khali. Many Meisters and Vürdmeisters who find themselves in harm's way will be protected by it unintentionally. It is described as a magical parasite. It opens new channels in the user's Talent, so initially a vir user will have stronger Talent, but the vir eventually consumes all the user's Talent permanently." ______________ Such a system would allow different classes of magic-users as suggested already. Some examples of starting classes: Unnatural magi and magae, would control summoning, necromancy, and magic similar to that encompassed by "Void Magic" in Dungeoneering as well as various other forms. They would have high reserves of magical strength, the capability to replenish magic by directly tapping sources of magic (which may or may not be present in particular environments) and an open conduit for magic. Natural, or Elemental magi and magae control more ordinary aspects of their environment as geomancers, pyromancers, etc. They would have less raw magical strength than the Unnatural mages, draw their magic from living things or forces of nature (great potential for evil there, but NPC Naturals would be generally good and draw from willing and usually inanimate forces), and would also have an open conduit. The Soulless would be extraordinarily rare among NPCs, but a starting choice for players. They would have no reserves, no capability to absorb energy, wide conduits capable of connecting with other individuals, and they would be almost completely immune to magic because of the ability to channel the energy of those using their conduits. I have quite a few more classes, but I'd rather not write them down right now. Thoughts?

It would be stupid to do any merge with this, it would unnecessarily clutter the forum. Thread Necromancers could really mess things up, it's best for everyone if the library is a subforum.

You're right, I suppose. Damnit, I guess I can't play as Alec Mason...
-
Delta V
Yeah, separate threads but they both apply to the same world. You play apart from the Hegemony players, but the world still shifts based on player's actions in Hegemony. And players in D'neering can, with significant difficulty, start rebellions in colonies and other such things. Maybe even kill generals and leaders of a nation.
