  1. Good lord, I start feeling nostalgic and find out you guys had a reunion without me? :P So many people I can't remember by name, and then suddenly they post and it all comes flooding back. The freak trains, the RIA, the weird darkwebz branch's in-jokes that I always only half-understood, and the fact that most of the oldbies I remember eventually became staff, either during my time or in the intervening years. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since I started playing RS. When I started I worked a crappy call center job, but things looked up when I moved to a desk... except it was soul-destroyingly boring for a 19 year old and only really good for wasting time online- most of which went to tip.it moderation, administration, and dealing with technical issues. (At least I still have good ol' user-id #2 to show for it lol) From there I struck out on my own... and it went immediately south. Wound up in retail, got recruited into banking for several years, detoured into insurance, and back into banking as management. A year ago I left my day job and turned a hobby-sized online store I own into a full-time job, which I love (well, most of the time ;) ) Any of you oldbies who happen upon this old thread- shoot me a pm, or catch me on any of my old online handles. Hell, I'm even idling in #runescape for a bit. I'd love to catch up with my old friends, acquaintances, and maybe even a few enemies ;)
  2. Haha, no, that pic belongs to me, as the title at the top says. I never kept much cash around because I always spent it on rares :P
  3. Did you and PFC Lewis just get back from the sandbox? Because I do believe I know Lewis- he's about to go on leave to go get married right? If it's the same guy, in a couple of weeks he's gonna be my brother-in-law ;)
  4. Heys, it's Rae! I'll never forget all of the "Rae bans" :P Ha :D I won't forget those, either... :P Hi Rae :D good to see you're still around :) what's that mean? Re: the "Rae bans"... When I adminned, I spent a _lot_ of time on the boards. As such, I was often one of the first people to see problems- and when I wasn't, I was often the first admin to see a problem report. I was immediately responsible for more than my fair share of bans just from the timing. Add to that the fact that I was not overly forgiving of the truly stupid (like those that try to keylog and post dirty links) and just plain irritated at repeat offenders, and I really racked up some numbers. People started assuming that I was responsible for just about everything under the sun that possibly went wrong. I was an easy scapegoat, and I didn't particularly care to do much public relations on my own behalf. Time went by, complaints kept mounting (most of which were pretty far-fetched, but again, I wasn't exactly doing much to improve my image), and soon enough, no one else was interested in defending my honor either. I ended up leaving due to being completely burned out on the community, and arguing with the rest of the staff over just about everything; rightly or wrongly, I felt pretty set upon from all sides. If I had to do it all over again, I would, but I'd spend a lot more time listening to my fellow staffmembers and the community's wishes.
  5. Hm, I realize that my last post may have come off somewhat negative... That was not my intention, I did not mean to insinuate that anything useful or necessary was removed, but the tweaks/combination of tweaks that was used is what I remain curious about. I spent a lot of time doing my best to improve performance while adding features; based on what I can see, Albosky probably reached a better balance point.
  6. Actually, if you want to use it's "proper" name, this bulletin board runs on phpBB2, not phpbb or PHPBB, and as I said, installation of the basic boards was easy. Running them in an environment that's likely hundreds of times more demanding than any site that you, or Serephurus, would run... requires a lot more finesse. Kudos to Albosky and anyone else doing behind the scenes work these days, page-generation times have improved (all except the blasted ads at the top :P ), and I keep wondering what you chopped out to improve performance.
  7. Good to see some interest in Tip.it's history here :D So much gets muddled in the retelling, especially during the transitional periods between the different boards. In spite of some of my pains here, and perhaps because of a few, I'm proud to claim some part in some of the shape of what happened over a few years :P For anyone that cares, the current incarnation of the forums are what I really had the most to do with, after modding/adminning during the scapeboard days, I got a lot more technical with things and helped Silverion and Lightning set up the boards on Tip.it's own server. For those who have run phpbb boards, you'll know that installing it alone isn't exactly difficult. What was difficult was setting them up in a way that allowed them to stay online while the userbase stress-tested them on a day-to-day basis lol (plus adding bells-and-whistles to make the work of moderating all of that activity possible for such a comparatively small staff). It looks like the boards have had some significant work done to them since I left, and they've probably learned a lot from mistakes I was responsible for :P Hello to all of the oldbies who remember me as a crazy, and please stop sending me hatemail to those who remember me as an admin (just kidding ;) ) / Userid='2';
  8. They've implemented graduated driving in Maryland, where I live, and it even applies to adults. I was 22 when I got my license, and I had to take driver's ed (in a room full of 15 year olds), and I have provisional status as well. The only difference is that I don't have any of the curfew silliness, and mine is a standard frontview ;)

  10. Absurd. It doesn't work if you keep taking the test over and over trying to be more idealist than the idealists. I don't have to defend my views against you. People that do know me in real life will confirm that I don't have to "try" to get that result and that I am a member of the Dutch Socialist Party. So... how many times did you take the test?

  12. Hello, Ameoba, long time no see ;) I'm still remember you, at least as well as my notoriously swiss-cheese memory allows Glad you're back and enjoying the game
  13. If you're only 34, you didn't play the first video games anyway. You just think you did, and that's sad. And what's worse, is trying to claim superiority for gaming for a decade longer, and not making any mention of any real quality there. Oh, 4000 games beaten, all that... rubbish. If you're going to make a claim, don't throw out a random number that you think might impress someone. I doubt you've ever even seen 4000 games, let alone could even name them, or been in the same room with them, or played them. It's a tired scare tactic that's only used to intimidate the uninitiated. If you think you've got greater rights to gaming because you've been doing it longer, I'll put a finer edge on it. I guarantee you that no matter how long you've been playing RS, I can name someone younger than you that's been playing it longer, and they're probably a world better, too. Either in score or in personality. You don't deserve any more rights for being around longer, and by claiming it, you hurt any claims to being mature and therefore deserving of equal rights and respect. You have shown a disdain for youth who are going to go on and do greater things than you have ever dreamed of because you were here "first" (except you weren't), and assume that makes you the best there will ever be. That's pathetic. Show some respect to your peers, because that's what the other players in this game are. You're no better or worse a player or a person no matter when you started, and the whole point of a game is that anyone has an equal shot to be the best. You don't get to make wild claims that have nothing to do with the rules to claim victory.
  14. If I was still here, I'd say "yay! they're banned! hooray!"... But only because they're silly and annoying, not because they're that serious of a risk. If someone is posting their name, address, and phone number all over their room, and then taking a photo, split it off or edit it out. Deal with it on a case by case basis. Seriously now, even I'm saying this is going too far. Oh, and dwarfie, do you even hear yourself, telling former staffmembers what contributing to the site is all about?
  15. It's generally accepted that Muhammad existed, at least as a man. Whether he was truly a prophet of god, of course, that's going to be up for debate depending on your religion. No matter how you slice it, however, those drawings were pretty offensive to the followers of Islam, many of whom ARE innocent. Now, I'm not even going to begin disputing the rest of the fallacies in your post, but I think it's pretty obvious you don't really understand the issue. Grow up, expand your mind, and try to understand the other side of the story. You'll be a better person for it.
  16. Heh, I remember one year while I was in school, 8th grade I believe, we had a whole string of bomb threats. Every day for 2 months, we'd have to evacuate the school. We all knew that there would be no bomb, but the crews came out to search the school nonetheless... And this wasn't just a middle school, this was a large school complex. 2 middle schools @ 2k students each, feeding into a high school of 4k students. Count in the staff and crews, you could easily rack up 9k people at any given moment being forced to go huddle out in the cold for a few hours every day. It didn't take the state assembly long to decide that bomb threats needed to be a felony (and remember, this was years before 9/11).
  17. Opera is a superior browser, with wonderful features included. I am very perturbed at their recent layout changes though, I feel that -most- of them truly detract from it's day to day use. So, I customized it back to what it was when I first started using Opera, plus the new features nestled comfortably where there used to be blank space. Firefox is a very good browser, but it lacks in many features by default- the extensions are truly the saving grace, rather than forcing people to recompile it to suit their needs, particularly when most windows users have so much trouble compiling anything on their boxes :P I feel FF is just rather feature-bare. What it does have going for it to make a real impact - and not just user-friendly - is it's security, which rivals Opera. Mozilla's team has outdone themselves. I use FF whenever I want to play RS, or need to wade through a flash-flooded site, I use a couple of extensions to block them quite effectively :P Opera takes up 95% or so of my browsing, however. Oh, and one last thing.... I was using Opera before it was cool, man! (Google too) /early adopter ;)
  18. Lying isn't cool. Exact dates = obvious lie.
  19. Not a bad looking signature overall, though I agree it's a terrible quote, and the name presentation is just... ill-fitting. I would have picked a better background than the mountain shown- perhaps the view over Donnie's hometown, from the road where he exitted the "tangent universe" (to the uninitiated: knowledge of the movie makes all the difference). Though I'm perhaps simply not recognizing the mountain range, and it does carry a significance, it appears to me to simply be a random object thrown in. The presentation on Donnie's face, and the overall colorization of the background and other elements however is superbly matched (though I still don't like the way the name is actually displayed). The slight blurring of the image does enhance it, as much of the movie incorporated an ethereal blurring of reality, and even uses it's own imagery to impart that idea. Overall, I'd give it an 8/10. Aww, what the heck, I'll bump it up to 9/10 because you used Donnie Darko instead of some random and entirely meaningless source image ;)
  20. You're going to try to use the excuse that it's out of game trading to cover up that you STOLE someone else's work? No, you don't get away with that. Jagex has already said many times that signatures are excepted, besides. Now this pointless thread is locked.
  21. Read my edit at the bottom of my last post ;)
  22. You sir, are a hypocrit. Btw, in case you didn't realize yet, your current sig is almost identical to McQueen's, the very one that you pointed out earlier in this thread. The only difference is coloration. Textures, lighting, shading, and most obviously the actual objects pictured are identical. -="Oops" edit=- Of course your signature is identical, you stole if from mcqueen and changed it... how silly of me. You didn't even buy a new one from the original maker. No sig for you.
