  1. Meh, fundamentalist Christians. I guess I'll say that you have to recognize that you're dealing with a Christian belief system that is so contradictory that it's impossible to defend. Again, I think Catholicism, if you really want solid, founded ideas, is the religion to look into. Just because one sect of Christians seems wacky to you (:P) doesn't mean you shouldn't look into other sects (I strongly suggest Catholicism, cause some other denominations aren't any better than fundamentalist Christianity).
  2. There's nothing wrong with evangelization (and by that, I mean non-condescending evangelization). If someone were atheist by truly ignorant of theistic doctrine, I would, if they were willing to listen, try to get them to rethink their position on the subject, not because I feel superior (I don't), but because they might actually be convinced. Honestly, living a Catholic lifestyle is not a bad thing; though some teachings seem stupid to people (i.e. no sex before marriage), a Catholic lifestyle is not something to be feared. If I'm able to convince someone to consider joining the Church, I feel I've done them good. If not, at least I tried and made them think a bit. Heck, I might have even done them some good, since they would now know the opposing argument better because of me. I've never looked at one of the elder ladies or gentlemen who I see at mass and think, "Gosh, that lifestyle is straight up undesirable and no good comes from it." Jesus' teachings, though some are challenging, are morally good teachings. Getting someone to connect more with said teachings isn't bad at all, let alone one of the worst things you could do in life. <_< Constructive criticism, getting someone to defend their beliefs, making them think, being a proponent of a morally good belief system - that's one of the worst things you can do in life? I don't support conversion through insulting the other person's belief; hence, my above 'definition of sorts' of converting.
  3. They came to my school to protest, hoping that we'd react violently. What a joke. :P
  4. Fortunately, Catholicism doesn't advocate for hating gay people. And I like that comic a lot. :) It really makes me just wish people could agree to disagree and just live good lives for the sake of living a happy ones.

    Today...

Homework day. Let's see: gotta read some poems by Browning for English, do some online Chemistry homework, and finish up some physics homework. I woke up at 8:30am this morning and the campus was dead. Went to eat in the food commons with my roommate and it was super relaxing cause there was only about 7 other people there. Sometimes you just have to wake up early for the sake of appreciating how great mornings are, not because you have class. :P
  7. "You cannot prove God does not exist, so therefore he does exist" is not a good argument at all. I have a book which I would like to quote to give you a better understanding of why so many people are convinced God exists, but it's at home. So, I'll be ordering it on Amazon today. Once I have it, though, I'd be glad to at least give you a few interesting perspectives. Oh, and because the last topic on this subject should hardly be forgotten, I feel we should at least link to it: (it may be better if you put this link in the original post, Skeptic) Is God real post your thoughts! I'm not entirely sure there's going to be any good from this topic, but I want to show that there is reasoning behind theism.
  8. Refrain from personal attacks? Lmao. I see none. Rather, I see your post as disrespectful, seeing as your teapot analogy was said in the same way someone would use the 'flying spaghetti monster' analogy. Your first post didn't sound like you respected theism at all. If you would have posted the above thoughts first, I wouldn't have sprang on you. Also, the defense for theism 'God exists because you can't prove he doesn't' isn't even considered a proof by the Catholic Church. Once again, you may get a better understanding of theism if you looked more into the Church's explanations. EDIT: If you're talking about me claiming you know nothing about Church doctrine on the existence of God, I was perfectly alright making that assumption, since you assumed that I was using the absolute worst explanation for God's existence, one that, again, isn't eve acknowledged by the Catholic Church.
  9. Yanni's Dare to Dream album. Most of my friends make so much fun of me for liking him, but I grew up with him. I listened to this album whenever I had the flu or a cold or when I was going through this weird phase where I threw up everyday for 2 months straight (no exaggeration, I [bleep]ed up my stomach). I honestly feel like I'm running through a European city whenever I listen to it. It might be some good Assassin's Creed music, haha. He was big in my mom's day, which is why I have his albums on my computer.
  10. I highly dislike all the other physics majors at my college (all 7 of them). And it may be part of the reason I switch majors (along with me beginning to hate the subject).
  11. Your inability to understand is obviously what makes you an atheist. And frankly, it's nothing like a china teapot flying between Mars and Earth. And once again, it annoys the hell out of me when people rag on Catholicism (or theism in general) without knowing anything about what the Church says about those subjects. If any of you actually had read some Church doctrine on the existence of God, it'd be much clearer why people actually believe in it and that it isn't just 'out of the blue' thinking. I'm sick and tired of people acting like other people's belief systems are crap (yes, there's no other reason why you posted that stupid china teapot analogy than for this reason). If you feel that way, keep it to yourself, because none of us want to hear it. I don't care if you disagree or agree, I still respect you if you disagree; but i begin losing respect when you imply that someone's belief system has absolutely no foundation (specifically in this case, theism). That's just disrespectful.
  12. Not at the moment - it broke due to too much yelling. Right now I use the dreaded text message system and input every single letter manually. That's how dedicated I am at this job. Yelling? Or did you throw it around a bit? :P You can have mine. I don't have any teams I play with, so talking does me no good. Plus, I have no idea what the call outs on the maps are.
  13. Lordy, now that's a beard! I think of a good Samaritan when I see these pictures.
  14. Zierro, I thought you didn't use a headset, though?
  15. Jodi - The Dodos Got into them from a sweet longboarding video by Loaded. Now I have three of their albums, and love them. Their drums are real prevalent in a lot of their music, and they kinda have an older sound to them. Plus, they make for good longboarding music.
  16. 3rd place out of 16 teams. Really close matches in the final four. Lost the first of the Final Four games by two (47-49) and then won to get 3rd place, 50-33. It was fun. I think I might start playing Halo seriously again.
  17. Did someone move this from the Library on accident? I don't read for fun during the school year... The Republic by Plato.
  18. I'd rather have ad hominem arguments made at me, and then kick their asses. :P But you're good enough where you can taunt them and kick their ass, too.
  19. Secret: I was walking from the food commons with two friends, and we were just looking around as we walked, and we caught sight of a topless girl in her dorm room (she wasn't facing the window). And I stared for a bit. Don't tell anyone, seriously. It's been pretty tough for me since then.
  20. Why should that be more of a priority than their actual qualifications? Because it shows that their overall knowledge is poor. This. Not at all. You're basing someone's 'overall knowledge' on whether they know the states or not? That'd be one stupid employer. Anyway, we focus learning a specific subject (i.e. majoring in something) because we want a job that needs that knowledge, and not knowledge of other subjects. You think NASA is going to care if someone doesn't know where all 50 states are when they know all about dense non-aqueous phase liquids? I mean, really.

    Today...

Going to watch a friend run in a cross country meet. Then, we're gonna get back and play in a Halo Reach tournament. The rest of the day after that will be spent on homework, I'm guessing.
  22. I find it hard to believe that a employment office will ask you to label a map of the United States so that they can make their decision. I'm at no disadvantage if I spend my time better understanding physics concepts than memorizing the states. And not wanting to memorize the states doesn't show a lack of curiosity. I could be plenty more curious about something else.
  23. Oh, I meant Reach. I guess they mostly play Arena, though.
