Today's progress (weekends are fun...): Started off with Hier Kommt Alex... after a few chokes, I decided I'd rather attempt I'm In The Band, as the last time I played it, I choked horribly. The song is evil for squeezing, so the score isn't that great (nearly 3k off witwix's 1st), but another FC for me! [hide=I'm In The Band][/hide] From here, it was time to go back to Hier Kommt Alex... after a few more chokes of epic evilness, I got the FC... [hide=Hier Kommt Alex][/hide] I decided to go for something more difficult, and My Curse was sitting without the 5 gold stars I wanted it to have, so I played. And played. And played. -1s galore, chokes galore, epic fail galore. And then, the FC run came, and it turned out to be in 3rd on XBL and 4th across all platforms :shock: Best rank for a first FC of any on disc song for me... (Coldplay tracks can't be beat with 1st FC 1sts...) [hide=My Curse][/hide] Convinced that I could make most of my bonus songs golden by the end of the day, I moved on to Nothing For Me Here, which had a score of 237k sitting on it for ages. I forgot to mention that through all these FCs, my green fret was cutting off randomly (the evil of Les Pauls...), which only made FCs that much more difficult. Nothing For Me Here is where that fret ruined me... I got a -1 run, with the -1 being due to that green, and from then on, failed to FC again... a lot of the chokes were my own fault, but there were enough due to the green that it wasn't worth it :( Ended up still boosting the score by 40k with that -1, though [hide=Nothing For Me Here][/hide] Bonus songs don't contribute to XBL rank, but they do to ScoreHero rank... I'm now 74th on there :D Songs near FC: Rock You Like A Hurricane (evil Solo 3 chokes...) Black Magic Woman (Need to get the fast strumming bit down so that I don't overstrum...) Cult of Personality (Slowly becoming more and more consistent) Don't Hold Back (Just depends on how many chokes I'm willing to endure in pursuit of the FC) Down N' Dirty (Hate playing this song, choke randomly...) Mauvais Garcon (100% with overstrum must be fixed >_>) Nothing For Me Here (demonic green button) Helicopter (-1 run on my only play of it in the last 3 months means I shouldn't have that much of a problem) Monsters (I either hit the solo flawlessly and choke randomly afterwords, or miserably fail the solo and 100% the rest of the song...) All in all, if I can claim all those FCs, I'll have 63! Of the remaining songs, Take This Life and Number of the Beast would be the two most likely to get me to 65, and from there I'm not sure how many more would come... FCPREMIX, possibly.... The Way It Ends would take major build up of stamina... Raining Blood... eek Don't expect a TTFAF or One FC out of me ;) But I might actually attempt 65/70 FCs... (54/70 right now)

I may have misunderstood the recent obsession with alt-strumming, but the majority of the top players do not alt-strum entire songs... there have been many threads on scorehero about people 'needing to learn to alt-strum entire songs to become better', and suddenly the best of the best pour in to say that they only alt-strum when they need to. Just to clear that up :| If that's not what it was about, ignore me :) My news today is very pleasing indeed :) This morning, I went for a Knights of Cydonia ReFC, because I had actually managed to squeeze in the fast parts (pure luck, just so you all understand that lol), and could thus potentially claim first. After choking on 4 runs that had 1st place potential (and one ReFC with a lower score than my original FC), I moved on to Holiday in Cambodia, simply because I hadn't tried the intro in a very long time. After a number of tries, I got through the intro with just an overstrum, but had to go to school, so I literally left the game paused through my school day, because I had never been so lucky with the intro. When I unpaused when I got home, star power went off instantly (Les Paul's are evil with their tilt censors). Determined to replicate my performance, I tried for a while, and managed an intro FC! That should've been a FC by default... the last time I messed up beyond the intro in HiC was ages ago... and yet, I choked. I FCed the intro again... choked in the exact same spot. 8 Intro FCs, 8 chokes, and nice annoying gaps between each intro FC. So I moved on to Rock You Like A Hurricane just for the sake of it... I had an excellent run going, and then suddenly major choke... 28 notes from the end, I was strumming too slow, and completely screwed up the run. However, it was still an improved score, so I decided to keep it! [hide=Rock You Like A Hurricane][/hide] At this point, the lack of FCs was depressing, because I was so close to two. As such, I moved on to a third song that I had been very close on - Black Sunshine. I've never particularly enjoyed this song's beginning, so having to restart a few times was a serious pain, but after just a few runs, with a terrible score that I need to improve, I had it: [hide=Black Sunshine][/hide] After a break for playing Halo with friends and doing stuff in the real world ( :shock: ) I came back and just decided to try Stricken's solo in practice. While I had FCed it once before, and had hit each 'section' a number of times, I had *never* been consistent on it. My first run in practice, FCed the solo as if my fingers had always known exactly what to do. Played it and choked horribly a number of times, but every single time I made it to the solo (3 times before my FC), I FCed the solo perfectly... Finally got past my choking, and pulled out another FC: [hide=Stricken][/hide] Having managed two FCs that had eluded me for ages, I decided that Holiday in Cambodia would be taken down tonight. After a -4 run and an even more depressing -1 run, I finally ReFCed the intro, and proceeded to not choke :D [hide=Holiday in Cambodia][/hide] And then randomly on the side, two bonus track reduxes of little mention: [hide=Generation Rock]Decided to try my hand at squeezing, and reaffirmed my hatred for reverse tick squeezing... Besides stupid mistakes, I still can't do the fast strumming bit, and I *always* miss the 2nd to last star power phrase (and thus the last activation), even though I hit the two similar non-SP phrases earlier in the song perfectly... [/hide] So yay, I actually told a story this time rather than just posting scores :D Edit: All this put me in 56th on XBL and 84th (for Xbox) on ScoreHero. By sheer coincidence, I'm exactly 1000 points behind rank 55 on XBL

I'm really not that good compared to a lot of people :( Went back to career songs today... started out with Knights of Cydonia, since I had been close to FCing it a while ago... after a few embarrassing runs, I got the FC for 8th place, missing an easy squeeze that could've had me in 5th.... [hide=Knights of Cydonia][/hide] Moved on to Cult of Personality from there, wanted to improve the tier... the single-digit miss runs got discouraging though, when a -2 was followed by a -9 (with a better score)... after that, I kept making stupid mistakes and didn't have any good runs from there... [hide=Cult of Personality][/hide] To actually get something new, I went to Welcome to the Jungle, which I've consistently -1ed for AGES, and finally was able to pull off a FC, though the score was nothing great... I might try for a ReFC to see if I can squeeze it at all... [hide=Welcome to the Jungle][/hide] Nothing else to report, hopefully I'll do something interesting soon :?

At least 4 people (Jprez, iamchris4life, cirkit, Undead, and [possibly] CryOfThePlanet) have FCed the triplets in FSA, so you owe each of them $50 :) Some more updates: Starting with the last thing I did tonight, I reduxed Mississippi Queen just to see if I had gotten any better at tick squeezing, and indeed I had... a 36 point increase means 9 extra ticks! [hide=Mississippi Queen][/hide] Then the DLC... Since I got the two 1sts on Coldplay songs this morning, I decided to redux Violet Hill... I had attempted the upperbound squeeze many times, and personally feel it is impossible, but one person has managed it... thus I was left to settle for tying for 2nd with Lo7 and ChadCasket [hide=Violet Hill][/hide] Having held 6th on Messages with only 12 ticks separating me from first, I decided to redux... and on my first FC of it today, I tied Lo7 for 1st :) [hide=Messages][/hide] Having successfully tick-squeezed there, I decided to go for Tina, another relatively easy FC with plenty of ticks to collect... I ended up claiming 1st all to myself, surpassing Lo7's 1st place by 16 points :? [hide=Tina][/hide] Finally, my only new FC of the night - Any Way You Want It... the solo had been an impossibility for me last time I played it, but this time a few minutes of practice had me nailing it. I wasn't about to go all out on squeezing a song I just learned, but after my first FC of it took 10th, I knew I could get a bit higher, and claimed 4th with a ReFC :) [hide=Any Way You Want It][/hide] I'm now in 5th for DLC, 631k points behind 4th ;)

So yeah... I decided to do the two Coldplay songs so I'd finally have all scores submitted... was not expecting 1st in both. I restarted plenty on each, because slow songs are such a pain for me, but I got all but one squeeze on Yellow (and apparently no one else has gotten that squeeze either), and all the squeezes on God Put A Smile On Your Face (though I missed a lot of ticks, which made me expect like 4th). Beat Lo7's scores on both (he had held 1st on GPASOYF [funny acronym] since the pack's release o.O) - and yes, I am now using him as a reference on all DLC, because he's the only amazing squeezer to have scores for almost all of it :) . Yay DLC! I've finally downloaded all the DLC (there was a sale on Microsoft Points at Target, and I abused it quite a bit :shock: ) and put in scores for all but two of them on Scorehero. Lacking those two, I'm currently in 17th... if I were to FC those two for my score input-ness, I'd move up to 6th (and I can FC both, they're the slow Coldplay ones... they're just so impossibly slow that I lose track of what I'm doing >_>). Obviously this isn't as competitive a scoreboard, as very few people have all the DLC, but it's still an accomplishment in my book. Along with a good overall rank, I've claimed two new high ranks tonight: [hide=The Pretender]This score is 2nd across all (two) platforms (that support DLC), with Lo7 holding the higher score. Coincidentally, XBL never recognized his higher score, so I'm tied for 1st on XBL :D [/hide] [hide=Jukebox Hero]I never bothered taking the time to FC this, but it's a simple enough FC. I beat out Lo7 on this, claiming his 7th place on the song (which he shared with 7 other people, so I bumped 8 people out of their spot :lol: ). I'm pretty sure I could rather easily move up a few more ranks by actually attempting the last squeeze (yes, you can get 7th on a DLC song without even trying to get all the squeezes... as long as the squeeze you ignore is only for ticks)... Do you tap Solo 1? I refuse to try (I fail at tapping...), but I'm horribly inconsistent on switching between the trills :( Anyways, major grats... someday I'll get that FC >_>

After more GH:A reduxing (including a 2nd on Talk Talkin' that XBL failed to recognize >_>) I went back to GH3 for some Operation Ground and Pound attempts... finally, after a day of steady improvement, I got this: :D :D Achievement Unlocked :D :D

Decided to try reduxing some GH:A, since paths have finally been released... Got 3rd on Make It on Live (5th on Scorehero) with one missed (impossible >_>) squeeze. Also found out that if I could learn Baggage Car Solo 2, I could FC TKAR... fun stuff. Edit: Score on Make It was 274,005... I'm one of only 7 people to break 274k on that song :D

GH1 hammer-ons and pull-offs are as close to identical to ones on real guitar as is possible on a game... In order to hammer-on, you must be holding a higher note when you hit the lower, and to pull-off, you must be holding the note that you're going to pull-off to before you take your fingers off the previous note. On top of all of that, the timing window is so small that attempting to use HOPOs is pretty worthless (until you get used to them... Cowboys From Hell has been FCed up to the Solo using all the HOPOs before, and that song is made of them... I personally am semi-consistent on them), and most deem it better to simply strum every single note in the game. Strumming and fretting at the same time can get pretty complex...

So I've left all of you out as far as my recent progress for long enough... I'm sure you're all just desperate to hear more :D First: I got all the DLC (except the two single songs besides EWWS, which I may or may not get in a while) including Virtuoso and Dragonforce packs! Virtuoso was a 5* sightread pack, while Dragonforce was 4* sightreads with 5*s following within a few runs... My scores on all (Virtuoso scores are all from sightreads, no replays yet!): [hide=Virtuoso] [/hide] [hide=Dragonforce] [/hide] I believe I might one day be able to get the 750k achievement off of OGaP, and I know I can do better on all of them... Now for the long list of reduxes! I've been pretty active in trying to improve my score, and I have a lot to show for it! So yeah... DarkDude told me that the Les Paul had a superior whammy to the Explorer. I doubted it, but tried it out, and I'm sad (because I prefer the explorer) and glad (because I have better scores now) that it does indeed whammy better. Thus, more and better reduxes! I felt like doing a ton of reduxes to see if I could improve some scores, and indeed I did. I can very very consistently -1 it, and the -1 is almost never in the same spot... I think it's nerves more than anything. DarkDude said I should redux it (well, it was more of a 'I have a higher score than you!', which I took as telling me to redux :D), but I'm not at all happy with the score. I've moved back to GH2 because of lack of saving capabilities on GH3 and made some good progress since coming back. In the past 10 days: FC Reduxs Surrender - 314,700 (67th place on ScoreHero) Possum Kingdom - 353,910 (57th) Heart-Shaped Box - 332,350 (148th) Salvation - 227,709 (72nd) Monkey Wrench - 453,001 (29th) Dead! - 282,404 (20th) Parasite - 238,782 (52nd) Radium Eyes - 199,922 (52nd) Soy Bomb - 176,672 (69th) New FCs Life Wasted - Messed up SP, so I ended up with a score 6k better than my FC with a -8 run, which was a score of 294,478 (93rd) Cherry Pie - 193,525 (53rd) Message in a Bottle - 318,634 (18th) Billion Dollar Babies - 211,246 (10th) Hush - 260,614 (35th) Girlfriend - 241,919 (51st) Can't You Hear Me Knockin' - 279,196 (132nd) And on top of those, general improvement in most songs, leaving me with a career score of 21.1m or 14.47m without bonus tracks :) And just as a fun side note, I'm beating the best Xbox 360 player on 4 songs :

There's already been a -30 run on it, which is pretty darn good compared to the significantly 'worse' runs of just a few months ago.

Surfing with the Alien's trills are 22.3 NPS, which are in fact the fastest trills in the game (raining blood's trills are 'only' 17 NPS).... as proof of how consistent some people are, they were FCed on the first day... The entire pack has been FCed in sections by one person already, but no real run FCs of anything but For the Love of God yet...
