I'm afraid I was misunderstood... my point was that deloriagod said that in order to not be narrow-minded on the issue, one should actively seek out 'substance users' as friends, simply to verify that they aren't the scum of the earth. I'm aware that they aren't, but I'm not going to go out and try to find 'substance users' to befriend when I can just befriend people who are less likely to use said substances. That was all I intended with my post.

I would have to throw my vote towards the 'don't smoke' side of things. I know and respect a number of smokers, but can't stand being around them when they're smoking.... The main point of my post was to respond to this one thing, which will probably get me flamed, but whatever - too tired to care. I'm very well aware that there are people who 'use those types of substances' and are excellent people. The excellence of substance users is about as varied/diverse as the excellence of non-substance users. However, when there are excellent people who don't use substances that I personally detest, I see little reason to surround myself with those who do. Being against 'controlled substances' and their users is not the same thing as claiming those users are horrible people - simply that they are people I personally would not want to be around.

I have RB, I just don't play it... never seemed to enjoy it as much. Today was almost entirely gaming, because I really didn't feel like doing much (I did spend a number of hours reading, and a few other things, I just mainly gamed >_>)... that said, I made barely any progress on GH: Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix - 179,132 -6 run, I kept choking randomly... exciting Dream On - 235,063 Utterly convinced my guitar decided that I should've reFC this, as it double strummed multiple times, while I have *never* had it double strum before. Finally got the reFC without any evil double strums, though I lost some whammy... Don't Speak - 421,518 Only one actual FC attempt (a few other playthroughs where I was just testing out squeezes)... missed the squeeze in the second activation, and failed to get any ticks on the first... if I put some time into it, I could get 3rd, if not 2nd or 1st, but I don't really want to put in that time... And that was all of my improvement for the day. I repeatedly choked on The End of the Line, eventually giving up when I was no longer able to hit the solo. DLC has seemed to stop freezing. I also tried squeezing Slow Ride once, just for the sake of it, and got 221,834, 3 ticks short of my current high score. With some work, I could bump that up. And that's all.

Right as bongo gets a new camera, mine is taken off to Kentucky for a family gathering my mom is attending, so no pics of anything I do until Tuesday. Tonight I managed only two reduxes, as I'm focusing on DLC, which is still freezing for me (songs will generally play after one or two turn-off/turn-on sessions of the xbox). Ernten Was Wir Saen - 727,833 -13 run, best run of the night note-wise was -12... only one part I don't know how to do, which means with just a little practice, a FC is not out of the question. The End of the Line - 704,576 Choked on the last, incredibly valuable SP phrase (I have a tendency to do that...), so this could've been first. 4th is fine for now, but will definitely be going for 1st or the FC (there's a 17k point gap between 1st and an optimal FC, so I wouldn't even have to FC the song to get 1st right now o.O) And these two put me in 3rd for DLC! Only 1m points from 2nd :shock:

Every play after that, I choked on the easiest part of the song... my strumming hand was tired >_>[/hide]

Today... I choked! It was very exciting (read: frustrating). The end. Basically my weakest part in Cult of Personality is usually Solo!... today I FCed Solo! on all but one run, then missed in Start Soloing! in spots that I'm normally incredibly consistent on... So the only new thing for today was my one run of Closer, right before I had to go. I didn't really squeeze much at all, so I only improved my old score by 8 points... eventually I might actually try to go for real squeezing on it, but it's not that interesting of a song o.O New score on Closer: 277,554 (omigosh still missing 20 points!)

Bongo, your progress is scary :( I can't hit NotB's solo for anything (though admittedly I still have yet to try tapping it...) and Take This Life is still owning me :( Grats on all the scary achievements though :)

My sightread scores of the Metallica album are up here (my ScoreHero page). Didn't feel like taking picture... it would just add to the incredibly long sightread session of 11 5-10 minute songs. Having played all of them, My Apocalypse is the only one I don't really enjoy, simply because the rhythms just don't make sense to me. Also see little point in the multiple versions of Suicide and Redemption... Kirk's is easier... yippy... FCed almost all solos on sightreads, with The Day That Never Comes being the only song where the solo would take more than a few minutes of practice. Even so, they're pretty fun solos. Don't know how long my 5th place on DLC will hold with people having plenty of opportunity to gain points over me, but my sightreads put me back in 5th place (where I had been before the album's release), so that seems to be my niche in the DLC 'community'. Sorry if those post was sub-part, I'm too tired at this point to write anything good >_> Edit: All those scores are genuinely sightreads, except My Apocalypse, on which my sightread was 373k... low enough to merit a redux.

I get to claim post 1200 in the topic by informing everyone that the Metallica album is a 1.34 GB download :shock: As of 6 minutes into the download, it had managed 2%, so it's looking like it'll be going for 5 hours...

Reasonable progress today, intend to do some more later tonight: 3 Reduxes in the 4th tier, as it's one tier where I was missing a bucketload of points... Very good news tonight! First, figuring that I should try to actually improve the score relevant to the competition right now, I played Sabotage. After a few runs, I managed the second activation squeeze, and neglected to try the third activation squeeze for fear of ruining my score, so I'm now 400 off optimal! [hide=Sabotage][/hide] Having seen the elusive RYLAH FC in bongo's hands, I decided to try for it, and on my first full run (I tend to restart a lot when I'm not happy with things >_>), it happened! The score isn't very pleasing, since I missed a major squeeze (that I hit on the (un-completed) run before and after...), but it was FC #59: [hide=Rock You Like A Hurricane][/hide] With only one to go for my short term goal, I moved on to Down 'N Dirty, which I felt closest to achieving. A few runs later (with painful Solo A chokes), I got it! [hide=Down 'N Dirty][/hide] 60 FCs achieved!!! From here, I decided to make more attempts at score-improving things. First, I put FCPREMIX's Aggro Solo in practice (the fast strummy bit that's tripped up bongo [i believe])... I FCed it exactly once... turns out it gives me just as many problems. Even so, I decided to redux FCPREMIX, as I was lacking 50k points in the song. My first redux, I -3ed Aggro Solo and FCed the rest, though I completely messed up the last activation (guitar wouldn't tilt-activate when I realized that I had already missed any hope of pressing select...) and came out with this: [hide=FCPREMIX][/hide] Finally, I've become somewhat dedicated to getting a The Way It Ends FC... and it's coming nearer and nearer by the day. My best scoring run (and, I believe, the only run I actually played all the way through tonight), was -17 (including a -1 in a SP phrase, which definitely damaged the score). I had a run where I FCed up to the slower fast strumming, and then messed up because I was still going at the old speed. I stuck the solo in practice and FCed it twice. Basically, the FC is just waiting on me to have a single run where everything comes together, because it's all already there, waiting. [hide=The Way It Ends][/hide] Today ends with 60/70 FCs (no, I don't have any hopes of 70... hopes for 68, however, are plausible), rank 51 on *both* XBL and Scorehero (first time they've agreed), and rank 98 (top 100!) for all platforms! And with all of that, I must ask bongo... any tips on Take This Life? Right now it's either entirely hit or miss for me... I either have the proper rhythm perfectly, or fail miserably, and such inconsistency is difficult to work with. How did you do it, basically? :D More edits: Figured out bongo is 'jugular' on SH, and compared: Winning: 46 songs by 686,981 points (14,934 pts/song) Losing: 22 songs by 170,124 points (7,733 pts/song) Tied: 2 songs 22 songs by large amounts = me scared :o It also helps me figure out what to redux ;)

bongo, by chance have you uploaded scores on to scorehero? I imagine we'd be pretty closely matched :)

Just to keep TIF updated (because scorehero.com is just that hard to read...), Jprez also FCed One tonight... two One FCs in one night = :shock: And then I go back just before posting and find that I Don't Wanna Stop and Knock Me Down have both been FCed on GH:OT... While I've never played it, I know both of those were pretty insane for however the heck OT works... so every single game in the Guitar Hero series has now been FCed o.O Now for my own, personal, much more meager update: I wanted to get Monsters, because I always was able to hit the solo in the past... after a little while in practice mode (omigosh people use practice mode?!? :x ), I had it, and 3 runs later, I got the FC with a crappy score (I don't want to try squeezing this song :( ) [hide=Monsters][/hide] Then, just because I could, I decided to play Black Magic Woman... I hit the fastest 4 note chain in the game (yes, BMW has a faster section than the red snake, it's just really really short), which is the only thing I choke on besides the fast strumming... then I hit the fast strumming... then I failed to choke anywhere else afterwords, giving me FC #58!! [hide=Black Magic Woman][/hide] That put me in 52nd on XBL... I attempted to go for 50th, which I could have achieved with either a Rock You Like A Hurricane FC or simply improving my Raining Blood score, but attempts at each of those failed. Raining Blood officially owes me an improved score, though, because I have improved a lot since I got that 304k, and become more consistent on Raining Blood itself... I just miserably fail to get *any* points out of the Flood when I did well in Mosh 1, and vice versa. So now 52nd on XBL, 56th on Scorehero, and 115th across all platforms on scorehero (ironically I'll get in the top 100 all platforms before top 50 for 360, even though I'm much closer rank-wise to the top 50 >_>). Current goal is 60 FCs, looking at Don't Hold Back, Down 'N Dirty, Nothing For Me Here, and Rock You Like A Hurricane all as significant possibilities. Also, just because random facts are fun, if I could pull of a Take This Life FC (when I played it today, I found I had lost it completely, so it would take work), I'd move up to 47th for 360 and 91st across all platforms on Scorehero... yay missing over 100k points in a single song (TTFAF will never count as being at fault, all other songs are vulnerable...)... Edit: Three different games were finally FCed today (I count each individual instrument on Rock Band as separate)... the only one left is Rock Band Guitar, with Green Grass and High Tides... Everything else is done o.o (DWDTG needs to be FCed too, but it's not on disc... Rock Band DLC would destroy the idea of everything being FCed >_>)

Quick score updates before I go to school: School's Out redux, didn't attempt to squeeze the last activation, and thus missed the last 200 points that separate me from optimal: [hide=School's Out][/hide] The Metal reduxed to attempt squeezes... missed every single one but the last one, but it was still a 1k improvement : [hide=The Metal][/hide] Helicopter FC = FC #56 = 80% of GH3 FCed now... Originally had a crappy score for my FC, so I reFCed two runs later for this: [hide=Helicopter][/hide] Monsters redux with -6 in the solo... while I was once able to hit that consistently, I've lost that ability in gaining the ability to FC the rest of the song >_> [hide=Monsters][/hide] Minus Celsius redux with a horrible 3rd activation (missed 1200 points there, and most likely 400 points in the 4th activation...) I have two plans from here - one is to individually redux every song for some set amount of time over a very long period, trying to maximize my squeezing on each of them, and thus secure a good enough score on each song that I won't have to worry about it for a while. The other is to attack the songs where I'm missing the most points (ignoring TTFAF, which will come at the end of either plan). Right now that means I'll be trying to claim a few more FCs that I'm close to, then heading on to Take This Life, to attempt to make up a 107k gap. Jprez has two -1 runs to his name, and is currently (as in, right now) going for the FC... Undead has a -7 and has been making rapid progress all weekend. While the answer is no right now, it might not be in a few days.

Next song is actually Sabotage... So yeah, my green fret is pure evil. I tried rubberband... didn't do anything useful. I can't open up the guitar because I don't have the wonderful screwdriver necessary to get at those screws (yay rounded, shallow evil). It dropping randomly ruined a Rock You Like A Hurricane FC (FCed everything besides the dropped greens), a Down 'N Dirty FC (same thing), damaged my score for Black Magic Woman (I got -3 on my own... green fret contributed another -4, and dropped plenty of holds), and destroyed an excellent FCPREMIX run (-2 up to Mosh Solo, at which point it dropped... the first half of mosh solo is 2/3 green, the rest are hammerons which I hit as hammerons, not as strummed notes). EVIL >_> I did manage to still improve things despite its attempts to make me hate it... I finally FCed Mauvais Garcon, failing miserably to get any squeezes... I will absolutely hate when I go back to redux, which will inevitably happen if I keep trying to move up the ranks. [hide=Mauvais Garcon][/hide] I did improve my Down 'N Dirty score, even if I didn't get a FC... my best run actually did involve me missing, not the green, but other runs were only misses due to the green dropping... I did indeed, and managed to improve my score: [hide=Black Magic Woman][/hide] Besides actual improvements, I proved I can FC Mosh 1 (the very last green dropped, making me miss the last descending thing), I FCed Flood! on Slower and nearly got the FC on Slow (one-handed), FCed Mosh!!! and Mosh Solo in the same run on practice just to prove that I could if the green would be nice, and FCed Start Soloing! on my first run of it in practice... the only thing I hadn't actually done before was Mosh 1, but it's nice to know I haven't lost those others...
