  1. I agree, it's pretty pathetic really.
  2. Miles Davis - Bye Bye Blackbird
  3. I would imagine that downloading in the conventional sense might be on the way out anyway. With services like Spotify, and smartphones having increased internet access globally I imagine the model might move towards streaming with adverts. Bands might make money through fixed salaries from record deals then whatever they can get from concerts and merchandise. And there'll probably be more "collector's edition" CD sales with physical products you couldn't get by downloading.

  5. The man's a machine, I swear he didn't quite go all the way either. No one else will ever stand a chance as long as he's running.
  6. There's tough love and there's just being mean. You're coming up fast on the line, so watch your tone.
  7. It's okay for men to cry, as long as it's at the right time and for the right reasons.
  8. RIP. He had a good run though.
  9. The Gloaming - Radiohead
  10. You're very welcome, and good luck. 330lb deadlift today. Form wasn't brilliant though.
  11. Water drinking myths :P I still try and drink a reasonable amount, but I don't go mad.
  12. It's hard to say really with that kind of workout, but since you're unlikely to be able to get the weights especially heavy you could probably workout for three days then have a rest day, then another three days etc. Alternatively every other day is plenty adequete rest. The pain you're in at the end of a session sort of depends on your level. When I first started working out I could barely walk down stairs after my legs day, but now that I'm lifting a hell of a lot more my legs feel okay after a workout. Sore, yes, but not crippling. Seperate sets based on how you feel. You could do circuit training with that kind of equipment, i.e. do a set of dips, then squats, then crunches, then pressups with no rest in between since each exercise is working a different muscle group. This works cardio nicely into it. Time in between sets is a personal preference, the heavier the weight the longer you want to leave in between each set. For your workout you can probably get away with minimal rest to increase the intensity. As for your diet, I wouldn't bother with protein shakes at the moment but equally don't expect to bulk up that much if you're getting ~0.5g of protein per lb of bodyweight. A can of tuna a day on top of your current diet would bring your total damn close to "bulking" levels or just drink more milk since it's easily digested and probably better than steroids for a new lifter. 3 P.S. Don't do situps/crunches, do these http://stronglifts.com/the-reverse-crun ... -pack-abs/
  13. Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences (glorified physics degree with other sciences thrown in to keep your options open), if I get the grades. Need AAAA in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics. Got the maths already, I'll find out the rest on 20th August. Durham is my insurance for maths and physics. Fingers crossed I should be okay, but goddamn that FP2 paper was a [bleep].
  14. Since you've changed your original post I'm not sure whether or not you're having a go at auto-tune or not, but I just wanted to point out that it can be used very effectively by extremely talented singers, eg. Woods by Bon Iver (below) and there's no denying that 808s and Heartbreak is a very good album. [hide=Woods - Bon Iver][yt]tZYVJlhnqxQ[/yt][/hide] I think it's very easy to rush to judge modern pop stars as manufactured and talentless but I don't think it's that simple. Yes, there's a big element of being in the right place at the right time when it comes to getting spotted by producers etc. but they must have some kind of star quality or they just wouldn't sell. Even if it's only being able to sing and dance well, hell that's all Michael Jackson did in his later years. He hadn't written good music for a long time. And I didn't think I'd be rushing to defend Miley Cyrus anytime soon but credit to her, she's actually co-written pretty much all the songs on her latest album. Whatever you think of their quality you can't deny that she does have some talent as an entertainer. I'm not saying it's fair, or just, or right, it's just the way things are in a globalised consumerist society. They can make so much money because they can market their product to the entire world. How on earth do we reward Tim Berners Lee accordingly? Part of the brilliance of his invention is that it's open access and not patented. If you don't like this stuff then you don't have to buy it, I certainly don't, but you can't judge others if they genuinely like it and buy it.
  15. Just seen it, it was okay, but I thought Borat was better. I think he's a very clever guy and bits of it were very good (getting that woman to talk about her interest in human rights when sitting on Mexican immigrants) but in bits it just seemed like he was going for cheap shock value for the hell of it. And yeah, there were quite a few scenes i'm not going to remember in a hurry.
  16. 308lb deadlift today, booyah.
  17. Agreed, no Sgt. Pepper's, no Revolver, no Abby Road, no White Album, no Help!, very little Beatles in general. (if any, haven't seen all of them.) This isn't a personal attack against any of the writers. I don't want to get into another argument, so i'll just leave it there. I did include one Beatles compilation, I'd find it hard to put a single album because they're all pretty incredible but I was trying to put one album per artist. I suppose if I were to do it again I might include Sgt. Pepper's or Revolver, but they hardly need their ego's swelling any more and I was trying to put albums that weren't total clichés (not that there's anything wrong with total clichés as albums).

I wish I could play the piano well. My parents bought me a keyboard when I was young and I taught myself a few of the demo classical songs on it by watching which notes they played on the LED screen. I've also taught myself This Year's Love by David Gray, which is quite nice but not hugely impressive. If I could play Clair de Lune though... I also really want to try and learn this, it's lovely: [yt]9bRNbBrgLO4[/yt]
  19. Cracked Actor - David Bowie
  20. Haha too right. I saw it last night, I enjoyed it. I can't say I remember enough of the book to know when they changed or left big bits out so maybe that helped. They keep getting darker, which is good. Also, I don't know if it was just me and my mate's pervy, blokey minds but did anyone else think there was quite a lot of unintentional innuendo in it?
  21. Another trick I've heard about but never tried myself is to put a rucksack on your back and put some weight (rocks, whatever) in it to provide resistance for pushups. If you can't afford gym membership consider buying a set of dumbells, you can go far with those. Personally I follow a 5x5 program (so 5 reps for 5 sets) with some variation for assistance exercises and deloading. In other news, after months of putting it off I've finally decided to bite the bullet and give power cleans a go. Always thought they'd be hard to teach myself but I think I've got an idea now. Barbell rows were starting to bore me.
  22. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan
