  1. I love this new map! Thank you for all the hard work!
  2. Thank you Insanity! I do not PVP.. so it completely confused me. Now I get it. Thank you.
  3. This was in today's Runescape update (dated May 6, 2009) After the info about the Wilderness PVP world, in the 'other news' this is the following paragraph. Quote: Similar to the changes we made to the way PvP worlds work to prevent people from using fun weapons or low-level spells, we have updated the system to detect other ways of fighting without taking any risks. Now, if you see anyone in single-way combat who is fighting without taking any apparent damage over an extended period of time, you can jump in and teach them how fighting works. end Quote. So does this mean.. that if i see someone standing outside the cow pasture.. killing cows inside the pasture, with range or mage.. that my character can go beat them up after "an extended period of time"? What do they mean by single-way combat? Is it only Melee that they mean? Or all Combat? And is this change only in the Wilderness? And only on those PVP worlds? OR is it globally? That paragraph confuses me.. anyone know what it means?
  4. I love that there is a limit on what you can trade. I have seen far too many people have a character that has a decent level, that they then use to funnel resources to their "mules". (Mule = second or third character that receives benefits from first character) They create a mule to be a 'pure' cook or miner, but those 'pure mules' have their inventory given to them by the main character; like a bunch of raw food to cook; or the higher level picks. With the limit put on trading - there is work involved in getting those 99 capes once more. People ask me how many achievement capes I have. I dont have any. My first acheivement cape is hopefully going to be HP. Becuase I want to get all the levels through playing the game as it was meant. Not as a mere status level to show off. (Plus I think the capes are rather tacky looking really.. but I digress) And so the game has changed. Everything changes. If things do not change, they stagnate. Do you want to stay 14 years old the rest of your life? Or do you want to grow and change? Become better at somethings? Learn new things? Sometimes to get better you fail first. Let those that dont like the changes leave. They gripe too much anyway. I for one applaud Runescape for trying to grow.
  5. Me too. I like that they left - because most of them were loud mouth insulters, that as a player I ended up ignoring; but they would inevitably start verbal fights with younger players becuase they thought it was funny. Which in turn just ruined everyone's mood in the area. I havent noticed any of that this this week so far. So I say, dont let the door hit them on the way out.
  6. In my opinion, you shouldnt be able to 'buy' your levels like in your example. You should have to work for them. It makes them more appreciated. So that when you see someone who has a level 99 cape, you know they worked for it. They didnt buy their way to it. Every level I have, I have worked for. I have not bought supplies to level up. I have bought coal in bulk, cause I got tired of mining it. But I didnt pay more than the going rate, cause I am bloody cheap. And I certainly didnt buy enough to level. This will be my third christmas on RS, and I still dont have a 99 cape. And to the majority of people that have them - they basically 'bought' them(with the exception of combat capes, mining, fishing the ones you cant buy). So those that bought their supplies at high prices, I consider them sell outs. I intend to work for mine. So, again, in my opinion, the fact the market has bottomed out, doesnt bother me at all. Because I only need the market if I want a specific item; and now the proces will be more competitive. And now in the future when I see someone get a new cape - I will know they had to work much harder for it that those that 'bought' them before the update.
  7. I canceled my subscription if that counts? >_< I'll stick around forums to see if a change is made. Yes that counts. But I think it is only fair to warn you that about 300,000 more subscribers would have to quit before Jagex even 'thought' about changing it back. See, Jagex drew the line inthe sand. If they change it back -its like they are saying the cheaters win. I seriously dont see that happening. Everything Jagex has done is in an effort to make the game fun, fair an equal to all. You can thank the cheaters for ruining Wildy. You can thank the cheaters for the ending of unbalanced trades. You can thank the cheaters for the tiny little pk area. You can thank the cheaters for the regulation of sales of items through the GE. It is not Jagex fault that a handful of cheaters took thier game and bastardised it so that innocent gamers ended up suffering and/or losing items unfairly. It is the cheaters fault. Had everyone played the game the way it was intended - none of these changed would have come about. You would still have wildy, free market, unbalanced trades. So put the blame where it belongs. On the cheaters.
  8. To all the people that say.. "i'm going to quit.. I'm going to quit.." Go ahead and quit already! Jagex is not putting it back the way it was, so there is no use for you 'waiting to see' - just leave now. Buh-bye. Let the rest of us, who love the new updates, enjoy our game. It is clear you obviously do not enjoy it, so go find one you do. Check out Ragnorok Online; Fliff; Rapples; Never Winter Nights; or World of Warcraft. To those people that have said the number of players went down.. its just like the stock market; it will go back up. I mean, look how many people have posted in this thread alone, "I quit, but came back..." Why did they come back? Because deep down they did have fun, they might not have liked some changes, but they got over it and came back. So all of you saying you are going to quit. Do it. I bet only 10% of those that say they are quitting, *really* quit. The rest of you are just acting out, and you will stay around. If all the ppl that said they were quitting, actually quit, and it affected one third of the subscriptions.. Jagex might change their policy. But you have to quit to test that theory. And well, if you quit, you will never know if they did change it back. So.. basically, to everyone who said they were quitting.. Double Dawg dare you to actually quit.. instead of just whining it.
  9. I dont PK. So that is no loss to me, but I wont comment on that aspect. But for all the others, I have worked hard for every level I have. I have earned everything I have. I never cheated anyone out of thier things. If someone died in front of me - I gave them back their stuff, to their shock and amazement. Personally I like the changes, except that I can not give gifts to people now. I know that everyone who sticks it out with RS now, is there to have fun, not to take advantage of others. I know that, now I will not be constantly hammered with beggers. I know that, now someone will not 'be able' to take advantage of me in a trade. I know that, now all my hard work and effort will stand for something now. That a lvl 3 player will not come along wearing a party hat. (Because we all know that is a lower character of someone who drop traded it to the low character for the attention it would cause) I know that, now to get to the high levels of skills I want, that I am working hard for; everyone else has to work jsut as hard for them too. They wont be able to use ill-gotten gold to buy their supplies. For Clans, it does put a major damper on things, because when I was in a clan, we would give new clan members and lower levels items to help them bulk up faster. Now a clan can not do that. But for the most part.. I am pleased with the changes. I am tired of people begging off me - just because I have level in the 100's people assume I am rich when in fact I spend most of my time fighting. I am tired of hearing about my firends who 'scammed' - even though I have preached and preached at them. I am tired of people trying to get me 'get me' to show them something.. jsut so they can 'see' it. I am just tired in general of all the cheaters in the game. And Hopefully now, those cheaters will say "dang its too much like work to cheat int his game any more" and leave. So we may lose a lot of players, but I bet the majority are players that we lose, like taking advantage of others. And then I have to ask myself... is it really that big of a loss after all?
  10. My name came from a doll. I wanted a name I had not seen before. I saw the doll and thought it was an unusual name.. and there you have it
  11. This sums it up quite nicely for me. Its like locking the village idiot in a round room, and telling him the exit is in the corner.
  12. I am lvl 110.. I dont feel that. I have yet to kill the kalphite queen by myself.. I have yet to get a d chain drop... or d leg drop... d half shield drop... Do I have those things.. yes.. But I bought them.. part of the fun for me is to get the drop,.. on my own. I have a ways to go.
  13. I would want a million Glory(t) amulets.. I love the shiney pretties..
  14. I collect armor! ... Damaged armor that is...
  15. Point taken, and thus I shall amend my statement to the fact that Lurers hasten the downfall dramatically.
  16. Downfall -yes.. it is a slippery slope.. the downfall must start somewhere.. it is the catalyst that will culminate in the "change" aka downfall, of what RS is now. Once it changes - it can never go back. So yes.. downfall.
  17. I agree, I am not saying I want Jagex to step in. Because I realize that the more 'rules' are in place - the harder it is to enjoy the game. I just find it a shame that, the small number of lurers (small compared to the majority of players that do not lure) will cause exactly what you described. Lurers typically do not play to have fun. Lurers play as a form of power. They do not care if they ruin the game for others, as long as they can weild power over another. They do not care that they will ultimate bring the downfall of the whole game about - as long as they can get their power high now. Personally I think there is a really simple solution. Make some worlds without wildy; and some with wildy. That way all the power trippers will stay on the worlds with wildy and leave those of us who prefer to play to have fun, alone.
  18. I will be honest - I dont like that mini game.. I have not played it since the first month it came out. Too many experienced players were berating people that never played the game; calling them idiots and noobs. The game was over in less than 30 seconds.. and it was wait wait wait.. and listen to the experienced players rag on the unexperienced ones. I would love to have easy exp so I can level. But the name calling and domineering attitude of some ruin it for me. Someone told me recently to retry it.. I am still debating.. I want to play to have fun. Not to be screamed at.
  19. You cheat, and by your words your parents cheat. It is still wrong. And I pity you, because it is obvious you do not see that. Just because someone you know, breaks the rules.. it does not make it right. Just because everyone around you may cheat.. it does not make it right. You are ultimately responsible for your own actions. Using the lame excuse, 'my parents did it too' to assuage your conscious - doesnt make it right. You can justify until you are blue in the face. It is still wrong. It doesnt matter that Jagex has not actually 'spelled it out'. It is implied. It is what is commonly referred to as "the Intent and Spirit of the rule". And typically it expected that the 'population' will self-rule themsselves in what is right and what is wrong without government stepping in and spelling it all out. If Jagex ever cracks down on it.. a lot of other freedoms in the games that are not cheating will be gone as well.. all because a tiny portion of the players, exploit others by luring them.
  20. I think that Runescape will go the way of other games I know - that will only allow one account per IP address - just for that reason. The game owners of the other games - will allow someone to have multiple accounts - but what they do is run scripts that routinely delete characters from the same IP address if they are in the same area in the same time frame. The oldest character is allowed to remain - but the second one is deleted. As long as the two characters never interact with one another - you can have two - if they do - the script deletes one and the main is sanctioned with loss of items. They even have a script that catches 'friends taking money from one character on an ip - and trading them to the other character on the same ip" - so that the friend that is helping someone cheat - gets caught to. Personally I like it. I dont cheat - so I dont have to worry about being deleted. And if Jagex institutes something like that.. Iit wouldnt bother me a bit.
  21. I never said "High Level Main" - I said Main. As in someone having multiple accounts that they use to lure, and except for thier main character - which they dont want to have repercussions sought against. So some use alternate accounts becuase they 'cant' lure with thier 95+ main. I dont know what is more sad, that they, out of frustration at failing to lure people with thier 95+ character - they started a lower level.. or that it took them to lvl 95+ to figure it out. It is still wrong. What ever the case, it is false pretenses. Wildy is not there so that there is no honor, or no rules. It is there so players can play against one another in the field of combat. People that choose the honorless way, meaning that they feel justified at cheating, will always be that way. They will start out justifing why they cheat at a game. Then why they cheat in thier tests, Then why they cheat on thier taxes, or steal things from thier company. Those people are the ones you see on Jerry Springer. I however aspire to better than people that find it so hard to have honor.
  22. This is an interesting topic, but it is all based on personal opinons, there will be no cut and dried answer. To me, the admirable capes are the ones of the skills that I abhor. Agility Thieving construction I hate them with a passion! So I admire someone I see wearing that cape, then I cringe thinking I will never get one.. becuase I hate training those skills. And construction.. Oh my god! It is so expensive to train that skill. >.< *twitches* My favorite skills are combat - I love them - so I will eventually get those all it will take is a bit of time doing something I like. But the cape I will appreciate the most.. is if I ever (doubtful) get the cape of agililty, theft or construction.
  23. Is Runescape educational? Absolutely. You are educated in the fact that some people will always call other people names. You are educated in how not to be taken advantage of (i.e. recognize Scammers) You are educated in bartering - which does come in handy inthe real world You are educated in laws - you cheat and get caught - Jagex will meet out punishment You are educated at not taking everything at face value - This is more for those that do the quests - without help. You are educated that to get high levels - you have to work at it. You can not buy your way to high levels. Even if you buy the supplies - you still have to do the work. Is this education that you can apply to 'book learning' in school? Maybe not. But it is educational.
  24. Is luring fair - my opinion - no. Everyone posting -for luring-, for the most part, have tried to justify it by saying 'if you are stupid enough to go to wildy... you deserve it.' That 'defense' only works if both players are on an equal playing field. If both players are age 13 and played runescape the exact amount of time - then MAYBE. However, most of the time, you have 'lurers' that have multiple Runescape accounts, they use their alternate account so their 'main' is not punished. This action alone shows that the lurers know what they are doing is wrong, becuase they have a contegency plan. They tend to have much more runescape experience; they tend to nbe older and find it 'amusing' to pick on inexperienced players. To me, they are nothing more than bullies. Most victims of lurers, are younger players that do not necessary know that there are unscrupulous players out there that value 'digital money' over a real live person's feelings. Lurers are after the 'fast buck' the quick money. They know its wrong but do it anyway, becuase they do not see the effect of thier actions. They presume it is a harmless thing. But what lurers fail to realize, is that this will make them want to cut corners in thier real world lives. Why work hard - when you can cheat your way to something instead? Once you cheat - you are a cheater. If you are a cheater in a game.. the odds are, you will cheat in your future life. So people that think luring is 'fine' - take a long hard look at yourselves. Do you want to be that person at 50 years old, that has spent thier life cheating their way through everything? You want to be that guy at the class reunion 'everyone' knew would be a loser?
