I really like it, which is odd because I usually don't =P Anywho, the only thing I would suggest it adding another few layers to the gray speckling thingum around him. As a curio, black eyes with red pupils? Looks less like he is wearing a pair of cyclops shades. On an unrelated note, I got kicked out of managing Earth in 2125...Blasted Free Markets screwed me over and there was no 'Screw the rest of the world' option...which kinda sucked because the rest of the world didn't actually help each other in any way shape or form... Now, you may be wondering what I am talking about...if you are reading this then you probably are because this will be a massive long paragraph and if you were not interested you would have skipped way earlier. Now, I am talking about 'Fate of the World'. Backstory is that the next 9 years go fairly badly for humans...Global Warming and what not...So the Global Environmental Organization takes over with you as their illustrious president. So, because this is my 4th full game I immediately disregard Russia, South Asia, India, Oceania, Northern Africa and the Middle East...all of them have an income way below what it costs to maintain them so whats the point? Anyway, I navigate the opening fairly well, establishing research bases in Japan, North America and Europe, as well as curbing deforestation in Latin America and South Africa, and embarking on an agriculturalisation of China. Oh, and making sure that the people living in these places all joined the Green Party, rather than the Consumerist Party, though that took much longer. Anyway, I progress fairly well until 2060, when Oil starts running out and things get hairy because no Oil means no agricultural vehicles, which means no food. So, to prempt this I have massively invested in Biofuels in China, which is also bursting with food, so it should be able to provide more than enough food. Progressing...100% Fuel shortage in agriculture...Thats right, we have Oil fired power stations, electric powered cars...everything except flipping tractors! People are starting to get grumpy and the 'Famine Relief in North America' card becomes available for use, so I know I have 3 turns to fix this or it is game over. So I search through all the news stories for the turn, and discover that Europe, my Biogenetic hub, had developed third generation biofuels. So I set down the cards for China, South Africa to buy the tech, and while I am there notice the 'Ban First Generation Biofuels'...Mouse over it 'Massively increases food by removing biofuels from crops'. I go to Japan, at that time my most friendly state, and establish my headquarters...Fiddle around everywhere else and end my turn. Sure enough Europe and China now have the 'Do you want to aid them' card available...so I am gonna be stuffed very shortly. Do some more fiddling, add Global First Generation Biofuels Ban to Japan and end my turn. Next year...32% Oil Shortage...My Biofuels were only producing less fuel than it was taking to harvest them! Food supplies shoot back up as well. However my victory was short lived...Without level 1 Biofuels and their grossly overpriced foods, the countries not included in my 'I care' net, crashed...Their economies totally wiped out, leading to global economic collapse. Yeah, Economics Professor Retech(Its 2085, he is bound to be one by then) had been buying the grossly overpriced food and selling it at even more grossly overpriced levels...His little empire has crashed, taking the rest of the world with it. Between 2060 and 2100 the global economy shrinks from 120 Trillion to just 40 Trillion...Losing 50 million in the last 15 years...Blasted Capitalists... This, of course, sinks my funding, reducing me from 900 Cash to 400 Cash almost overnight, so I have lost over half!! More than this, I was charging Tobin Tax, netting 100 per region, on 4 regions, and all but North America's is wiped out the same turn, with NA's going down the next turn. So all the extra projects I was running are kaput. I then notice that coal is practically run out, which screws over all of the factories, so I go 'Crap, how do I solve this?!' Fiddling around, fiddling around...Find the 'Coal-Free Industry' button...surely it doesn't expect me to spend 50 per turn just to prevent countries from having industrial collapse? Now my money has decreased from 400 to 300 by the next turn, thanks to the continuing economic collapse and spiraling unemployment, so I barely have enough money to subsidies the Biochar which decreases emissions and keeps food production up in all my countries...So I can only afford it in one region. Try it out in Europe...the 85% coal shortage is wiped out. Ok, so that problem solved? No...of course not...I cancel all my other projects in the vain hope of restoring employment and bringing back some prosperity...but China staunchly remains at 100% coal shortage, ergo 60% employment (Commercial and Agriculture), which crashes its cash from 120 to just 30. And the economic crash carries on because I have got to such a high level of development in my regions that it takes a long time for them to break down...and the other regions have really...really...really screwed up. So my total cash is roughly 100, and America finally develops Fusion, and Japan invents Nanites that can make Oil. Both cost 50 to buy from the other, and 50 to implement...Japan is producing 9 Cash, America is producing 30(and Latin America is producing 49, since it doesn't have silly industrialists :shades: )...So I plug fusion and nanotech into North America and end my turn. However, too little, too late, the whole planet is collapsing thanks to Japan's discovery of Benthic Harvesting, which randomly spews out emissions and heat in exchange for a trifling amount of Gas. My cash flow is reduced to 45 (32 coming from Latin America) and that means I can't even carry on with Fusion implementation...though by that point the Game has said 'Sorry, you are hated, you lose' so it doesn't really matter. Its rather a shame...by the end I was actually lowering the temperature of the Earth, rather than raising it...Emissions were still rising, which was killing me thanks to me converting all my nations to Green Party. Anyway, in my next game I think I will set up a biolab in all the countries I don't care about and periodically cull their population....Hopefully at 0 they stop getting counted as economically important and so prevent the economic collapse...time will tell...sooner or later...Time will tell.

God that would be awful...an Empire of people who thought that a big shiny picture of their face would make a good ad campaign. Retech you don't have to lie, there are no elections =P The first random event will be about the recession, but beyond that there is no effect...the Tax-Growth system is simple and effective

3 countries were claimed already, they were mentioned...

Its 2010, and the future looks bright. The United Nations has finally succumbed to the ravages of time, degenerating into a squabbling mass of delegates more interested in seeing their own countries triumph than in helping anyone. Scientists studying the Earth have indeed concluded that Global Warming is happening, but noted that it was occurring much slower than previously thought, and that the tipping point is exactly 83,919,320 Carbon Units. With the world currently producing 2,097,983* Carbon Units per year. These scientists have also given the 14 richest countries quotas to reduce emissions to zero. If anyone is majorly concerned 46.5 Carbon Units equals 1 Megatonne of Greenhouse Gases. IAD is the amount of money you can spend. Changing the Tax rate affects growth instantly, but only produces increased IAD the next reset. Resets are every 7 years. You can do 1 free, secret, research at a time. All others must be put out to research companies (Which you PM to me). You can choose Fast and Cheap, Cheap and Secret or Secret and Fast. Armies, Navies and Air Forces are not given out, you need to buy them in. Provide a link to any prices you say or ask the mod. Recruiting the same turn as you use them makes them 50% as good. Upkeep raises taxes by 1% per 10 Billion you spent on the military. This money pays the troops. Recruiting one solider costs 2,000*Prestige level. Nukes are allowed. It cost 1 Trillion to set up a Nuclear Weapons Project, once set up they cost 1 Billion per Mega-tonne. Nuclear weapons, per mega-tonne, add 100,000 Carbon Units to the planet's Carbon Load, when fired. Using Nuclear weapons obliterate your Moral Standing and Biological Impact prestige, reducing both to 0. Nuclear weapons obliterate do 1% GDP damage per Megatonne, up to 10 per bomb. Or can destroy 10% of a countries army, it can also destroy 1% of your enemies Nuclear Weapons. Missile Shields are 60% effective. Research can increase this. Building Missile Bunkers protect missiles from getting nuked below 5 megatonnes. Other super weapons are allowed (See examples), but no weapon can do more than 10% GDP damage (Bio Bomb), destroy more than 30% of a countries army(Chemical Weapons), or destroy more than 10% of an rivals Nuclear Weapons (Orbital Strike), in a single strike. All Super Weapons cost money. All Super Weapons have imperfect defenses. Space Travel is limited to the Solar System. Colonies are treated as Puppet Countries for the first 50 years, after that they become fully independent for 7 years, then can choose to rejoin you. NPCs GDPs grow at 2% per reset. NPCs have a tax rate of 8.3% Investing in NPC countries/Buying shares in their countries gives you additional IAD per reset. This is (their IAD*Your Share of their GDP)*(Your Prestige/(their tax rate*100)). Long story short, more share and higher prestige = greater profits Investing in your own country increases your GDP at a rate of the square root of (Investment*(Prestige/100)/Taxes^6) Long story short, higher prestige and lower tax rate = greater profits Puppet controlling a government is allowed if you control 50% of its GDP (not IAD) through investment, and are at least 20 Prestige points clear of them. Losing a puppet occurs if you lose your 50% stake, or you fall within 10 Prestige points of them. Puppet states control 100% of their IAD and will never give it to you. Annexing is impossible unless you have conquered a country. Even then they will be highly resistant. Controlling major supplies of XYZ, oil, for instance, give you a monopoly on the resource/product and allow you to force other countries to give you things or face a prestige and budget hit when you embargo them. Other information: [hide] IAD is money. Specifically Tax money. Growth is directly proportional to tax rate, with 5% growth per year being the max, and 10% reduction being the minimum. Doesn't matter how amazing your social welfare or nuclear missile array is if your industry is in shambles and your people are starving. Prestige is how you are viewed by your citizens and the rest of the world. 0 to 100. Prestige is broken down into 5 sub groups worth 20% each: World Presence Technological Prowess Moral Standing Biological Impact Economic Mobility World Presence is about how much power you have over the rest of the world...Getting involved in International Incidents, building nuclear weapons, investing in other countries. Technological Prowess is about how scientifically advanced you are...Researching genetic engineering, space programs, building high speed trains. Moral Standing is how you treat your people and the rest of the world...Investing in other countries, social welfare and not letting people find out you killed some upstart revolutionary. Biological Impact is your impact on the world...Genetic Modification, Green power and Recycling. Economic Mobility is how fast and how much money you make...Top player gets 20%, Next top gets 15%, and so on. All countries get prestige, but NPC countries more or less bumble along, except for random events, which can increase or decrease prestige by a few points. Prestige has two functions: High Prestige makes it near impossible to go to war, but, you remember those 'investing in other countries' things...Prestige is how much money you make out of them and how much influence you have over them. Anything over 20 more prestige than another country, and 50% of their IAD belong to you, and you can install a puppet government. While they are still their own country, they will do whatever you say unless your prestige drops to within 10 of theirs, or your IAD share is below 50% for more than 5 years. If you have prestige at 10 or lower then you get nothing from investing with them. Low Prestige makes economic investment a waste of money...But gives you a major bonus in going to war. A country with 0 Prestige fights with a 1,000% Bonus in conflict, 10 Prestige is a 900% bonus...and so on. Before you drive your prestige into the ground, remember technological prowess. To reach 0 you need be fighting with WW1 level technology. Finally events: Two types of event: Minor events, like technological breakthroughs or political wrangles which limit or expand your power (If you are America, taxes at 50% and you are heavily investing in Canada then Americans are gonna get hissy and the senate will try to screw up relations by embargoing maple syrpe(If I spell it wrong you can't get me!)), or a nuclear power plant has blown up and people are getting scared. Events are random, usually international, events, which occur every 7 years (weekly). They are usually major opportunities to make a lot of money or boost your prestige...Or to get drawn into a sticky situation. These will usually be in the form of PMs to people and it is up to them to spread the events as they see fit. For example, America may get reports that Canada is developing a Nuclear Weapons Program, and there have been reports that, because of the embargo on syrpe, they are planning to threaten American interests. Or a British made Bio-Weapon has found its way to South Africa, and a terrorist cell is trying to buy it for use against Brazil. Or China is preparing for war with India. Prestige can be useful in building alliances, but is at the mods discretion. If you choose Bhutan, for instance, you would have 40 prestige from near perfect morals and the best Green Record in the world...However that doesn't mean America, if it was NPC, is gonna join your alliance against China. And yes, real map seems sensible.

Been thinking about a new hegemony, set present day ish. Watching Regenesis too, so got some of the ideas from there. Anywho. New Hegemony would be built on three principles: IAD, or Industrial-Agricultural Development. Prestige. Events. IAD is money. Specifically Tax money. Growth is directly proportional to tax rate, with 5% growth per year being the max, and 10% reduction being the minimum. Doesn't matter how amazing your social welfare or nuclear missile array is if your industry is in shambles and your people are starving. Anything over 50% more prestige than another country, and 50% of their IAD belong to you, and you can install a puppet government. While they are still their own country, they will do whatever you say unless your prestige drops to within 25%, or your IAD share is below 50% for more than 5 years. If you have prestige at 10% or lower then you get nothing. Other notes: Global Warming has been shown to not be so unavoidable as was previously thought, and you have until 2050 to reduce emissions, for the world, to a reasonable amount per year, or 'The Warming' will occur, which will do various things to various countries. Similarly Fossil Fuel reserves have been found, extending Oil and Coal to at least 2050 at present usage, probably more. Research is limited to 1 Free Government project, though you can outsource other research contracts if you want, you will get 3 quotes back. Cheap and Fast, Fast and Secret or Secret and Cheap. Space exploration is strictly solar system bound for the foreseeable future, and setting up a Space Colony works just the same way as if you were investing in another country. Colonies start with 50% Prestige, however. Any questions?

A leg that is screwed into the ground?
-
That bionic replacement leg?
-
Yup, different game, same spell.
-
Probably, but horse can get killed, is hard to use in a cave and needs to rest alot. Also, 1 drop of mercury per hour, if you aren't running(aka sleeping) is probably considerably cheaper than keeping a horse alive for 24 hours a day. I mean you could just buy a flask at the beginning of the game and be set for the rest of it.
-
Tensors flying disk(Or whatever it is called in this version) would work just as well, and that is level 1 or 2?
-
Some sort of fire mage...or a barbarian with an Axe. Blow stuff up and teleport or smash stuff up and run fast.
-
Yup, two games that are turn up and be yourself. If only it was simpler somehow.
-
Not sure. I am in two minds about quiting Space and running a new Hegemony. On the one hand there is nothing wrong with Space, and the extended break might have done some good. On the other, got Kingmaker, Nex and Iey's new games...Can't expect people to wait around forever. Really down to Nex, Wyvern, Ross, Earth and Retech....Since they seem to be the main peoples.
-
Depends. Copy and pasting data...like weapons, for instance, is just sensible...It saves massive amounts of time. But generally working from scratch is my preferred method...Lets you respond to situations that are unexpected, and allows the players to be creative.

On originality: Things are only ever copied when you copy them. If you think up something someone has already thought of it gives you the prospect of re-imagining it in a new and exciting way. The other alternative is to find a random word generator. Then find a list of adjectives. Then find a list of political ideologies. Now you have the name of your race, two adjectives to describe it and their political outlook. Then pick a second ideology, this makes the race 3 dimensional, since not everyone thinks X. Then get a random number generator, and use it to work out how powerful this race is. Create more races as needed. Also works for factions/countries within races. Then pick two/three from a list of future technologies. More than five and things are hard to relate to (Ever notice how, on TV, in the future, with all that technology, everything is the same? In roleplay its harder to hand-wave 'Yes, there are replicators that can make anything everywhere...but there are also factories, and even though everyone has super nanites, there are still hospitals....and even though this rifle can blow vapourise a man within a material which is 90 times better than titanium, it will only make a small hole in the wall...Or how genetic engineering is everywhere, but some people are still naturally better than others...or mind control that is broken by a kiss'), three is more than enough to give a good roleplaying experience. You can then use the random number generator to define how good each race/faction is with that tech, if so inclined. Then pick a reason for the war. Even if it never comes up knowing why there was a war helps you work out how the world works. If so inclined you can make a world map too.* And you more or less have a roleplaying world. Then you just invent a sensible system to go with it. For a system you want something that, either: Takes a long time to resolve, but rarely needs to (eg DnD system), because the important information is stored in a buffer. Takes seconds to resolve and is constantly needed (eg Dungeoneering system) because everything is adhoc. What most people do is create a complicated (long time to resolve) and constantly needed system, because that is the system computer games use. I won't insult people's intelligence by explaining why this doesn't work in the Tavern. So...I would suggest key stats (Strength, Dexterity...whatever) which rarely, if ever, change. Which resolve, via excel, into HP, AC and Max/Min hit. Unified XP system. Then there are two major options from here: 1) People buy Skills. Skills give set bonuses. Pros: No complicated maths, Cons: Argument about what is covered by a skill or not. 2) People buy Levels. Levels give cumulative bonuses. Pros: Smaller integers mean player is not forced to choose 1 skill per level to improve, Cons: Can get majorly complicated. Feats/Perks/whatever are set up along the same lines as Skills. Then weapons/tools usually give modifiers as well. End result is a rarely changing system, which can be buffered very easily (Levels/Skills+Mods**, HP, AC, Min/Max Hit). *Site is pretty useful generally. **Keeping these as separate values is important)

There are various advantages to an non-unified system...It means that you can get better at an individual skill far faster. For example...If you happen to only really use a rifle and lockpicking, then you can level those skills up directly, rather than having the game nerf you for puring. Inversely, it also prevents people from becoming really good at one skill and then using the massive/easy XP they get from that to level up all the other skills. It also supports longer games, since most 'unified' games have some form of asymptote in overall level, at which point it becomes near impossible to level up. In a non-competitive game, ie parties or single player, the second point is invalid, and the first point doesn't really factor, since few single player games nerf puring. And non-competitive games rarely last beyond a few months...so... However, Tavern Competitiveness means that people nerf or people binge...And don't want to reach the celing in five minutes. Ergo, a unified system is exploitable. However, it takes a lot of strain off of the moderator, and given that Nex is dealing with a major concept, simplicity is preferable.

Very much agreed. Shame you don't make a game.

Yeah...Characters dying, unless it doesn't really mean anything, doesn't bode well with the Tavern... Since there is a strong tendency to ignore the warning signs and complain that 'I could'a taken them' when the Mod says that you crawl away with your last good finger, instead of springing up on your broken legs, picking up the gun from the molten magma and firing a pistol 500 meters, passing through a tiny hole with a series of randomly swing blades and a room full of hostages, to press a button that will deploy a health kit for you... Or the ever popular 'What I do is use my face as a weapon.' It is also extremely difficult trying to think of mundane, but challenging, encounters, persistently. Also virtually everything is too much to handle... [hide] 'There is a cave, do your explore it?' 'Er...No, I could easily expire from a small tap.' 'Oh come on, it will be boring if you don't do anything.' 'Boring! I picked up a newspaper, got a paper cut and had to spend two hours in ye olde hospital because I don't have first aid as a skill.' 'Yeah, but that was at level one, you are level five now.' '...And you promise I won't die from tripping over a rock or something?' 'You have my word.' 'Ok...I enter the cave.' 'As you enter the cave you feel a thin web, like a spidersweb.' 'OMG RUN AWAY!!!!' 'You run away.' 'Is anything chasing me?' 'No.' 'I take up position at the mouth of the cave and wait for something to happen.' 'Nothing happens.' 'Ok...I examine the web.' 'You re-enter the cave and trip over the trip wire. You fall into a spiked pit and are impaled on the spikes.' 'What! NO! NO GATING! I WAS LOOKING AT THE WEB ON ME!' 'There wasn't any web on you.' '"a thin web, like a spidersweb"' 'Yeah, it was a trip wire.' 'Am I dead?' 'Yes' [/hide] If death is reasonably likely then the game has to be rather restricted to prevent headbutting the spiky door, or getting knocked out, from occurring 'too' often. Personally, SPECIAL (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck.), with the levels and perks system thrown in. Lumps a lot of skills together and unifies the XP system so you aren't reliant on finding locked doors to level up your lock-picking level.

...Did you deface a book :!:

Good news and bad news...Good news got the disks to repair the laptop...Have been working on it for a while...Bad news it is running very hot and froze first two times I tried to repair it. Leaving it to cool down, and got a fan to keep it extra cool until I can fix it, install the power management software to prevent it from running so hot... So I will post an update in a few hours.

<_< stupid weather. Blue skys and sun with my complexion is a death sentence
-
Not especially... You could send out a virus that automatically DDOS' the network with every computer it enters. And this is the internet...So everyone on it has too much free time.
-
Its rather unlikely to occur... Kinda like saying if you give out your address you will get a letter bomb. There is a risk...but its pretty unlikely...
