There's not really a way to avoid them except for waiting till they've got some distance. If a friend of you is training in Tzhaar you could ask him to keep the mages busy.

Old quests I usually use guides since I'm not too fond of dying by a gigantic boulder smashing into my head. On new quests though I do it the day it's released with my usual quest partner

I actually quite like it, but I'm not sure about the dragon arrows... but i generally like the idea. Great painting work too :)

You gotta watch them now and then, if they get diseased the WILL die, check on them now and then to use plant cure.

The smithing exp is the same per bar for all items (except c balls)

For the highest ones you need stuff like coconuts and you can only get those from player grown palms.
