Snakes on a Plane
You assume a lot. They came up with several titles, actually, but Samuel Jackson said he'd quit if they didn't change it back to Snakes on a Plane. wow really i neve knew that! do you know why he wanted to have that as the title? I think the discussion went something like this:

Climate Change Discussion.
The simple truth is that no one really knows conclusively whether or not humans are heating up the planet. We're pretty sure it's getting warmer, but no one knows why. The last two posts are definitely legitimate theories, but climate is such a complicated subject that we can't really know for sure.

real life?
Unless the argument itself is enjoyable and therefore worth pursuing because it's one way of getting the most out of life. :-k On topic: What I always wonder is if my reality is created for me by a superior technology, and they are training me for some higher purpose when they wake me up.

Climate Change Discussion.
Funny timing... I just finished reading a book by Michael Crichton called State of Fear. It was a fiction thriller, but it had a lot of real science in it about global warming. His main idea was that the threat of global warming is overstated and not really a problem. I disagreed with him on his final conclusion, but it's pretty obvious that the threat can be overstated. Example... Famine and hurricanes always happen. Those examples are just sensationalism. As for 2003 having the hottest summer in thirty years, that means that it was hotter thirty years ago  However, I do believe that the temperature of the Earth is rising, and that there could be some connection to greenhouse gases. For this reason, I support most environmental causes. That's why it's frustrating that there is so much misinformation out there. The industry on one side presents us misinformation that there is no crisis, and in response the environmentalists distort the facts almost as much to prove that there is. There is a crisis, but it's hard to gain support when everyone is spouting bull about it. Anyway, the way I see it, the real reason to listen to the conservationists is not global warming. The bigger problem is the simple fact that our energy needs are skyrocketing and the oil is not unlimited. People say there are alternative energy sources, but the reality is that none of them (or even all of them together) are practical if we want to keep consuming at the level that we do. So, go ahead and be worried about global warming. Be worried about species extinction, land destruction, etc. But the real danger comes when the middle east begins to run dry and Americans still want to have half-hour hot water showers day and night plus a half-hour commute in an SUV.

Face recognition! Do you look like a popular person ?
I used a pretty small picture, so I don't know how accurate it will be, but I got... Leonardo DiCaprio 61% Camilla Parker Bowles 60% Ryan Phillipe 60% Matt Damon 59% Paz Vega 59% Claudia Schiffer 57% Emma Watson 57% Kim Cattrall 54% Ashlee Simpson 53% Rob Thomas 51% Apparently I look more like women than men. :| Cool program, anyway. I'ma try a new pic of me :D EDIT: Matt Damon came up with all three images I tried. I'm off to Hollywood. 8-)

Outrageous things you thought as a kid
I went to daycare/preschool before kindergarten. It closed at 5 o'clock every night, but I couldn't tell time. Instead, I judged time by how dark it was outside. If it was really dark, my dad was late picking me up. If it was really light, he was on time. Somehow, I never noticed that he was always late during the cold winter months and always early during the light summer months. :-k

How old were you when you had your first kiss?
Of course this is true. Unfortunately, it's true about many guys who aren't single. :? As for me, I was always kind of a late bloomer. First kiss happened the summer after I turned 17. So don't worry if you're sweet sixteen and never been kissed! Many people make it all the way to or through college kissless

Post intelligent opinions on "emo" and "goth
I know exactly what you're talking about. Kids, especially grades 6-9, simply choose an entire life attitude like putting on an outfit in the morning. What's funny is watching these same kids trying out new attitudes every couple months, until finally they outgrow all the pretensions and they resemble adults. All part of growing up

Baseball: Does anybody else think Big Papi should be AL MVP?
All I know is, he's on the cover of the Boston Globe practically every morning for some superhuman achievement. I'd give him the title :P

World War III?
I don't think this conflict will escalate that much. If any big players (US, Britain) jump in, it's not like other big players will jump in on the other side and cause a true world war. It could get really messy and expensive if enough muslim countries gang up on Israel, but I don't think it will be the spark for WWIII.

What is the greatest sin?
Ah, but now you're judging others. You're saying that those people are calloused (which I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you...just pointing it out). So by proclaiming no judgement, you are judging others who do. Hmm... Completely correct, but not necessarily relevent. My point was this: someone who commits suicide is clearly having some pretty terrible problems. They are so miserable that they would rather throw away everything than try and go on. Given how upset and unfortunate they are, I find it disrespectful and callous to judge them poorly. They're a person in trouble, driven to desperate extremes. Can't we feel sympathy for them after they have lost all self-respect and dignity? Instead of insulting them further, I mean. I guess my issue is not that you (by you I mean anyone who has answered "suicide" on this thread so far) are judging someone who commits suicide. I judge people all the time (as pianofrieak pointed out). My issue is that you are deliberately refusing to be sympathetic towards a fellow human being in a time of their greatest distress. For that, I judge you. I don't think that's hypocritical. :-k

Biking - Any tips or tricks?
Having cycled a lot too I have recently been astonished to see people on steep hills trying to pedal sitting down... It isn't as though pedalling standing up is difficult. Almost all of my cycling has been done standing up due to the nature of the style I ride, in fact last christmas when I was considering getting a newer bike I was going to get one with no seat: A seat would get in the way. Pedalling standing up is actually more difficult in the long run. If you're only climbing one hill, then stand up. But if you're biking for an extended period of time, sitting on the seat even when climbing steep hills will conserve energy. I think the difference is that when you're standing you have to support your own weight in addition to pedalling the bike. While sitting, you just have to pedal.

Epic Songs
Someone will probably flame me for this, but I think a number of Eminem's raps are powerful specifically because they tell a story. I wouldn't call them "epic" in the traditional sense because that implies heroes and grand sweeping ideals and stuff. But something like "Stan" is epic in its own way.

What is the greatest sin?
First thing I thought of was date rape. Like when those college kids put a drug in a girl's drink to put her to sleep and then... Don't know why, but it seems even worse than murder to me. And personally, I've never understood why people think suicide is such a big sin. Judging someone else poorly for being so upset they gave up hope seems like the most self-righteous and callous view imaginable. I don't mean to point fingers at any individual specifically, but who the heck are you to judge?

Biking - Any tips or tricks?
Be sure to stretch out after biking, especially if you haven't done any biking in a while. Ideally, you should stretch a little before and after, but I think afterwards is most important and effective.
