What compelled someone to bump this post? It was started in July 2004. And I remember when it was started

Drivers Ed, Waste of Time and Money?
Massachusetts law requires under-18s to take driver's ed, which includes... 1) Thirty hours of classroom instruction. Sit in a room with forty other sixteen year olds listening to some fat old guy telling boring anecdotes about the rules of the road. 2) Six hours of driving instruction with an instructer. I actually thought that this was time well spent. 3) Six hours of observation. That's right. Observation. You sit in the back of the car and observe while the instructer works with another student driver. Worth the money? :notalk: Overall, I'd say that it wasn't worth the money. But the time behind the wheel with an instructer is really well spent. He notices all sorts of stupid little bad habits that are easy to fix and could prevent a crash.

My soccer practice this morning
Not surprising. All these american footballers say that soccer is a wussie sport because it's not full contact ( ). What they forget is that soccer players aren't wearing twenty pounds of pads to keep them safe. Soccer can be a ton more dangerous. Gotta love it 8-)

And the new Miss Universe is...........
^Just put your gender in your location. Put enough spaces after the end of the location to start a new line, then write "Gender: male." On topic... No matter how much we all say we'd like girls without eating disorders, I don't think there's a one among us who would turn Miss Universe down

Mood setting music, suggestions?
I've actually heard that classical music is really good before a sport match because it allows you to relax and focus and keep your cool. But I personally prefer Metallica - Fade to Black, especially the intro and the killer guitar solo at the end. 8-) Guns N Roses - Welcome to the Jungle is pretty good, too.

If you could direct you own movie...
Like smell and touch? I'm not sure we have the tech for that just yet. :| I haven't really thought about this before. Off the top of my head, I think I'd probably do a story of a young man who came home from a war seriously disturbed by what he saw. The plot would surround his struggle with his former relationships etc. Not very original, but I think it could be quite interesting and incredibly powerful. All things considered, though, I'd much rather act than direct :P

Azmniag!
^That doesn't prove it false. Just limits it. Obviously, if you write a word that no one has seen before and screw up the letters, no one will know what it is. They can't sound it out. Yeah, Ive seen this before. I think I was the last one who posted this on these forums. :P

The pinnacle of bad arguments
lmao. I have no clue if thats a joke or not? That business of the earth resting on the backs of four elephants and a turtle flying through space is a reference to a fantasy / humor novelist named Terry Pratchett. All his stories are set on "Discworld," which is a flat circular earth on the back of four elephants who in turn are standing on a turtle. I'm thinking maybe you all just got OWNED, and the website itself is a conspiracy. :P Nobody on there actually thinks the earth is flat. They're all Terry Pratchett fans (or similar) pretending to be flat earthers.

Arrrr!
I saw this movie, and it was very good fun. Completely rediculous and not nearly as good as the first, but very good fun. I definitely reccomend watching the askaninja review before you go see it, though. Not a classic like the first Pirates, but a good enough sequel.

Disturbing..
Oh! Whoops  I'm sorry. Bad assumption on my part.

Disturbing..
I'll admit, Middle Eastern culture seems more violent and oppressive than Western culture. My only objection is that you (ShadowFax) seem to categorize all Islam believers as being uncivilized. You blame the religion for the lawlessness. I think this is unfair and destructive. Do you think Islamic people in your neighborhood are all uncivilized? Of course not. They are just as moral as Christians or Jews. Judging them harshly just because they share a religion with a violent Middle Eastern culture is, forgive me, kind of bigoted. Other than that, I agree that Middle Eastern culture is in many places atrocious and a source of much of the violence in the world today. It doesn't help that the area is of such strategic international importance. Anyway, Ragen's probably right. Sorry for straying off topic.

What are you wearing today?
Navy blue shorts w/belt. I had a shirt on earlier, but it chafed.

Remove post counts
I fully understand the argument against having post counts, but I agree with ^this guy: For me personally, I try not to spam. I try to write only meaningful posts. My post count is a record of personal achievement. I don't use it to judge myself against anyone else. Although I know a lot of people do judge this way, I personally would like to keep my post count.

Disturbing..
Take it easy, guys. ShadowFax, every major religion out there has atrocities to its name. Throughout history, Christianity has been used to justify just as much violence as Islam. The middle ages of the Holy Roman empire were just as oppressive as today's Middle East. If you need examples, try the crusades, or look at the Catholic / Protestant violence in England around 1600. I agree with Ragen. Middle Eastern society might be cruel compared to our Western standards, but it has nothing to do with one religion being better or worse than another. Don't go claiming that Islam itself is evil; a claim like that is inflammatory and false. A little more on-topic... a ton of kids have all these political opinions that they have inherited from their parents. That was me for a while (I had no clue what I was talking about), but I like to think I've become a little less ignorant of American government. Now I've found my own reasons to believe what I do. ESPECIALLY about G.W. Bush  .

*Official* World Cup thread (Predict the World Cup Final 4)
Anyone else watch the third place game? It wasn't a perfect game for either team, but it was a lot of fun to watch. Three spectacular goals and an own goal. Schweinsteiger = 8-) And Portugal's Gomes had a beautiful diving header. I'm not really impressed with Christiano Ronaldo, though. He has the talent, but his inexperience is really obvious. He might grow into an exceptional player, but right now he's just flashy and inconsistent. He gave away the ball trying to pull of a fancy move :-k .

Evolution
I actually remember reading in the Boston Globe within the past four months or so: scientists discovered the fossil of some sort of fish that was a perfect missing link between two species. I saw it and said, "wow, there's great evidence for evolution, I should keep that or something," and then I forgot about it. :( Is anyone here familiar with the book The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell? I haven't actually read it, but I've heard it has an interesting theory. Basically, Gladwell talks about how in any system, change occurs very quickly in short bursts, followed by long periods of perfect stability. Gladwell was talking generally about all sorts of different types of systems, but it can be applied easily to evolution. Imagine a community of organisms that have adapted to live together, compete and consume each other. They are perfectly adapted, so no one species has any dramatic advantage over another. Therefore, very little change happens for millions of years. However, amidst all this seemingly perfect balance, small disruptions cause small adaptations to occur. The system is not disrupted, no new species are produced, but these small changes add up. Eventually, all these small changes add up, and all at once, the system reaches (drum roll) the tipping point. Something drastic happens. Practically instantly (on a very large timeline) a new species is evolved, or something complex like an eye or sonar is developed. After this brief upheaval, the system finds a new balance. I can't really do this theory justice, because I don't really know what I'm talking about. It makes sense, though. Say we're following the evolution of one species into another and into another etc. Of course we won't find a "halfway" species, because such an animal is, well, halfway. It is out of balance, and it won't stick around for long. The system it is in has to find a new balance, and this is an extremely fast process. Thus, the fossil record will only show a series of species; it will not show a slow morph from one to another. It would be just incredibly lucky to find a fossil from one of those transitional species. Transitional species only occur in tiny windows between long periods of stasis. Again, I haven't even read this book, but if I understand it right, it seems like an excellent explanation (some might say convenient excuse :P ) for why we can't find transitional species.

anyone who weightlifts out there??
Excuse me, I have to go throw up now.

the metric system rocks what is wrong with you people?
I think the reason it failed was because patriotic Americans decided that the metric system was some sort of foreign import. Accepting the metric system was just the first step on the slippery slope of allowing creeping communism to take over this great country of ours. The government even put up speed limit signs in km/hr, but they were literally shot down by angry locals. Apparently true-blooded patriotic Americans don't like simplicity. We prefer multiplying by twelve and dividing by 5280 when we talk about inches/feet/miles. Now that's sacrificing for your country. #-o

Fourth of July!
Every Fourth of July, we go to New Hampshire (where fireworks are actually legal) and buy a massive amount of the loudest fireworks we can find. This is the first year we spent more than $200. Gonna be a good show. :D

What does this sound like...
How soon are you going to a doctor? If it's any more than a day or two away, try and see someone before then.
