Tip.It Times Presents: So Who Needs Fansites Anyway?
shadowbot replied to Kiara_Kat's topic in General Discussion
Well im not sure how many people are reading my comment right now, but long long ago sometime in the period of RSC Jagex did officially say they planned on starting partnerships with some trusted fansites. However i think this was also around a time when they said they planned on adding official clan support into the game. We havent seen much in that area either, unless you consider team capes and multi level wildy (which i dont) clan support. But that, like quite a few other ideas seem to have been proposed by jagex and forgotten. (player owned shops anyone?) -

Tip.It Times Presents: Jagex and Emergent Gameplay
shadowbot replied to Kiara_Kat's topic in General Discussion
I would like to disagree with what you are saying here Andrew. It seems that you guys at Jagex have given runescape a sense of fear and caution when it comes to some cases of emergent gameplay. Many examples of emergent gameplay in other games evolve from glitches or bugs, such as the cliff teleport in Wow or the bugs in Gunz allowing players to cancel out certain reload times on weapons by switching weapons quickly and shooting again. The developers of these games left these in because although they were bugs, the players embraced them followed by the developers. A key example of how this is the opposite in rs is the castle wars bug where players were turning into sheep and imps outside of the area. Since the rules of runescape say that any bugs or glitches must be reported and not abused, there is an overwhelming response to things like walking around outside of castle wars as an imp. Massive amounts of players would follow you around reporting you for bug abuse and telling you that you are going to get banned. This type of paranoia about banning is because of the Jagex policies, and yes this is the same type of behavior that stifles emergent gameplay. As developer of runescape I'm sure you see it differently but coming from a veteran rs player, myself and many other people included are actually wary of having fun with some unintended effects that we find in the game because people are so scared of falling under this umbrella term of "bug abuse" -
Tip.It Times Presents: Jagex and Emergent Gameplay
shadowbot replied to Kiara_Kat's topic in General Discussion
Definitely the most interesting tip it times article I can remember reading in a long time. Great point about Gunz too that someone made in a previous post. It does often seem that once players start getting too creative with new updates jagex tends to go and tweak things, even when they are small pointless things some people consider fun that dont affect gameplay at all. I agree their attitude should change and they should leave some things be. Mostly I think Jagex's issues stem from the fact that they dont want people getting 99 in any skill "too fast".(what is too fast btw, they seem to have their own definitions for that) Sometimes I think they should lay off that attitude a bit and let people play the game creatively. -
Jagex' new rares? - 3A vs discontinued - PRICE UPDATE 7/2
shadowbot replied to Ts_Stormrage's topic in General Discussion
3 new 3rd age items a day, and how many new members a day? its the relative ratio of 3rd age items vs total active members that may cause these items to stay up there rising in price for a looong time... There's a topic on the official runescape about this: Quick find code: 15-16-992-37069354 And here's one of the quotes: "Paul Gower said that: The chance of getting a piece of 3rd age armour is precisely the same as getting a left half shield from a skeleton! Okay... And the drop rate for getting a shield left half is about 1 out of 10,000. That means you have a 0.0001% chance of getting a piece of 3rd age armour every time you do a clue. " 1/10000 is way greater than 1/1000. Also, I don't think that 3000 clues will be done in a day now. The holidays are over. If 3rd age is the same as getting a left half from a skeleton, well... holy crap.... I'm maxed out in combat skills and im lvl 90 slayer and I've only ever gotten 1 half shield from a bloodveld and never once had one from any other slayer monster, this makes me think the chances of getting one from a skeleton must be close to 1 in 100,000 and quite probably higher than that. Think of how many creatures one must kill to become 99 in every combat stat. Only 1 left half in all that time? Those chances are really really low. -
I think they only way they would have any leg to stand on with a tax argument would be if jagex sold in game money for cash and also accepted in game money for which they paid cash back. So for example you could buy money from them at $10 per million but you could also sell money to them for $7 per million. If people were using the game as a tool to make money in this way, then yes they could justify a taxable income. However jagex doesnt nor will they in the future (or so they say) ever offer this kind of option. So we are safe.

Guide to your FIRST fire cape even lvl 60s can get it!!!
shadowbot replied to Danton's topic in General Guides
I just wanted to say, watch peoples fights with Jad on video and pretend like you are switching the prayers. If you practice this for 10 or 20 minutes so that you have it down before you even fight him it will save you HOURS of wasted attempts. Using this method I killed Jad on the 3rd try, I still messed up prayer switching the 1st and second time out of pure nervousness. -

I would also like to point out that back in those days you signed up with an email account and before they had highscores tables the highscore emails and upcoming updates were sent out in an email. I have since lost the copies of those emails that I did have but they showed statistics such as how many player kills people had and other strange stats that I dont think jagex monitors anymore. I think the people here at tip.it should put out a call to see if any people have those emails kicking around from way back. Alas my forgotten hotmail account was reset after a while and mine were lost forever. -
Tip.It Times Presents: An Important Meeting Takes Place
shadowbot replied to Kiara_Kat's topic in General Discussion
This whole business gets me thinking. Is there a way that a mostly unknown player from the forums, who happens to be an old hand at runescape and knowledgeable in many aspects of the game can write an article to be featured on the front page? If i do say so myself I dont fit the mold of the average runescape player, being a graduate from university and being a male quite a bit over the age of 15, also having quite a good grasp of the English language. I'd be quite interested in possibly submitting some thoughts and opinions that have been brewing in my head for a good number of years. If this is at all possible, I would appreciate it if anyone with the proper authority would contact me in whatever way you find most convenient. Cheers :) -
Any more info on the way the transport system works? i.e. what other spots can you travel to, if you have to pay to use it etc. Thanks for the info about branches, I will try to note them and see what happens.

What do you mean by 12 willow branches? Also, is it possible to note the things you give him?

Some Long-ago planned updates that have not come... Yet.
shadowbot replied to iwatake's topic in General Discussion
Dont forget that player owned shops were also supposed to be released, and player owned houses and farming were supposed to be released at the same time because POH was advertised that you could plant crops at your house, but they havent done that either. For those who think the team capes are clan support, you're wrong. Team capes are simple accidental attack prevention. The clan support is supposed to be an official thing where you have a clan hall and you can tell what clan a person is just by looking at their name. Not a piece of equipment that can be removed, and not something just anyone can buy and say "im in your clan" -
Tip.It Times Presents: Construction; Deflation or Not?
shadowbot replied to oddfaery2's topic in General Discussion
I think the drop off of players leveling construction will be severe. Either because they dont want to spend that much money per xp point, or because they have the levels for the features they want in their house. In my opinion the amount per day drained by construction will decrease to much lower than half of what it was the first week. Jagex wanted a money sink but i think what they ended up with was just a very sharp money speedbump. Because of the sharp prices i think lots of players will give up on construction. I believe that if jagex wanted to make it more long lasting and constant drain, the prices for the logs to planks, should have been cut in half making the average around 4gp per xp point bringing it much closer to the average cost per xp of other skills. The closer the cost is to other skills, the more likely players are to invest in it before investing in a non money draining skill. -
so he was able to attack and people were not able to retaliate? wow we will hear in the future about the famous fally massacre. rs history made: june 5 2006

Dont worry, I have a similar story. I was also in full dragon. D chain, beserker helm, whip, d legs, d square, glory , and had full guthan in my inventory. I had just been playing fight caves which is why i had the equipment on me. While waiting for some friends i was killing a few of the monsters. I got down to about 30 hp so i decided to heal on some of the small level 75 monsters with my guthan. After getting hit a 10, i was like omg what the hell is going on. Then another 10. At this point i start to run. Then i see some kind of spell shoot out from the monster and hit a final 10 on me. I was dead. Standing in fally with a dragon square and the 2 cheapest parts of the guthan set. My week was totally ruined. I bought back the rest of my guthan with the cash i had in the bank, and got a new whip after a few hours at the abyssal demons. This was a few months ago and to this day I do not plan on buying a d chain again and still dont have d legs. Now i always keep my ring of life on my finger at all times. No exceptions. Lesson learned: know what monsters you are fighing beforehand. always wear a ring of life.

Tip.It Times Presents: English: Its Proper Form
shadowbot replied to oddfaery2's topic in General Discussion
Is this the best article you guys can come up with? Seriously, bothering to rant on something of this caliber just seems like an attempt to insult a lot of people for no good reason. Let people talk how they want, if that bothers you that much, youre going to have a lot more difficult problems in your life when you get to stuff thats actually important. -
I dont see why Jagex should ask a tip site to withhold quest information. If players want to try it themselves, cant they just try it themselves? Its not like having the guide up is going to ruin it for the players who dont want to use a guide, because those players will go and do it anyways without looking at a guide. If jagex thinks quest guides are such a big deal, why dont they create quests that cant be guided? Speaking as a person who already cant stand the fact that jagex even forces us to do quests (and yes i do consider it forced, since they lock up certain portions of the game until you quest) I hate quests and just want them over with, so i can get back to working on the skills i prefer. Jumping through hoops running around gathering items is not my idea of a "fun quest" I should have the option as a player, to play this way. I dont appreciate jagex "requesting" that the fansite i get quest guides from, withhold the guide.

Fight Arena Guide - 702 + Safe Spot (2005) (AOW discussion)

Also could you clarify which to pray protect from first when fighting the boss. In the picture you have protect from mage, but in the text you said that in your experience he always starts with range attack. -

Would there be a benefit in bringing prayer robes as opposed to range gear? I realize it would be harder to hit, but over the course of 15 or so prayer pots, that is a huge extended amount of time you could spend in there.... just a thought.
