  1. Uh. No. Pure mathematical chance stipulates that the odds of one thing happening are completely independent of all other variables - time since last drop, the world you're on, etc. etc. ad infinitum. Each time you kill a boss, you have a 1 in X chance of getting a hilt/some other item. Period. If you get a hilt on one drop, you still have that same 1 in X chance of getting a hilt the very next kill. It's already been mentioned several times - selective perception. You're trying to make up a reason for why something is happening - "oh, we switched worlds and got a hilt, that must have been a dry world!" is garbage. Drop tables are random, and nothing will change the appearance of items, and people trying to explain their luck through any other kind of reasoning are making up garbage.
  2. Winner! Holiday "events" just seem so contrived these days. Bring back the days of scythes and bunny ears just showing up out of nowhere and let us have our own holiday fun. (I say scythes and ears because they were untradeable...P hats/Masks/Etc. were nice, but gave such a huge economic advantage to those playing back then over time, which isn't right.) I played when crackers were dropped and I'm basically broke. So did I, and I'm broke as well. But some people are not.

  4. I too wonder what they mean exactly by "help them build their communities." If they mean bring more people to fansites, that shouldn't be an issue, at least with the bigger sites. Popularity and word of mouth spreading of fansites is quite common among the biggest, which bring in a steady stream of users already. Smaller sites could benefit, though. If they mean build community, like camaraderie, community spirit, etc. it could be interesting. Helping support/attend fansite events? Assisting with site content? Providing content in advance of the content's release (similar to MechScape World)? This could be hit or miss, depending on how they implement it.
  5. Pffft. Those that played late RSC didn't get the whole story about how skilling (especially mining) was an adventure in pain and torture. Time to play old balls here... Early RS (early 2001) was vastly different. To mine ore, you had to: Click on the pickaxe in your inventory. Click on the rock. Hope that you managed to mine your ore, since you could easily fail, or find the ore hasn't respawned, or mis-clicked the rock and dropped your pickaxe (seriously, if you clicked on a space of ground you'd dump your pick there instead of mining the rock). You'd better hope that there weren't people standing there also, because A) there was no right-click option to grab stuff off the ground, so B) if there was one other person there, interacting with them in some way would be the left click option, not getting your pick. This was on top of the other hardships of the time; no item banks, minimum 3 melee rounds rule if you were low combat mining in the Dwarven Mine, etc. etc. ad infinitum. Conclusion, you don't know how hard mining (and, by extension, fishing and woodcutting) used to be. I don't think the skilling article does the history aspect justice. :)
  6. Big failure. A development diary needs to be more than this guy saying, "well, I've started thinking about a new quest, but I don't have anything yet." Dev diaries are about showcasing stuff actually IN development, and beyond the planning stage. There's basically nothing done on this new quest. Also, new elf quest plz. But (as I said in HYT CC), if this one also involves copious amounts of beer, it may be OK.
  7. I don't. Partly to help avoid the burnout that had me quit for 3 years, and partly because it's just stupid grinding endlessly while you're bored stiff. No amount of music/chats/watching TV, etc. can help then. If I can't decide what to do next after 2 minutes or so, I log out and do something else (AoG, something else entirely, go outside and see the sun, who knows). Skills will come when I get them, not because I grinded for 10+ hour shifts for days/weeks at a time. Those days of grinding for me are long over.
  8. Dude. It's THAT picture again. By the way, no I do not have 99 woodcutting. I just happened to be there screaming my face off at the exact correct moment. Been a long time since I saw that picture (or a lot of the other stuff in this thread; fantastic read for oldies like me!).
  9. I'm genuinely impressed with the volume of questions he's answered so far, and what he has promised to answer in the coming days/weeks. I figured he'd pull a choice 10/15 questions from the first few pages, answer those, and be on with it. But it looks like he's on pace to tackle 1,000+, which is astounding (and probably keeping him from other duties? Shouldn't he be running the company? :P ). My question did not get answered; however, it is a detailed question about future RS content, so I'm hopeful it gets picked for one of the later updates. Nothing he answered really matters to me much so far, but the real meat of this Q and A session is still to come. Fingers crossed...
  10. Been around since April 6th 2001 ... for you scholars, that was the day Asgarnia was released. A friend of mine showed me the game a few weeks beforehand, and I initially thought it looked quite goofy. Kinda forgot about it for a while, then went back to the website on 4/6 and saw the Asgarnia update news, thought "this is neat!" and joined. The rest is history. Wow, I remember so much about the past. Good magic and evil magic (before the huge mage/prayer update, I believe late April 2001?), where the highest spell was Fear, at I believe level 13. Fear was awesome. For those who don't know, Fear, when cast on a monster, made the monster vanish. No questions asked. I remember tailoring and thieving (yes, thieving...BK fortress quest gave exp for it back in the day) on the stat list. There's a lot more as well...Today I saw the picture of Everdred getting 99 woodcutting for the first time in about two years (this was June/July '01) which has me screaming my face off in it. The amount of people PM'ing me over the years asking if I had 99 woodcutting is at least in the thousands. Good times...
  11. As has already been mentioned many times, I'm sure a lot of people saw this coming. Here's my take: I'm personally interested in Jagex's *EXACT* reason for this potential nerf. If it's because the high levels (read: Heart Unit, Affliction, etc.) get crazy experience, HELLO! Isn't that what happens in your game dingbats? Are we going to lower lobby catching rates because lv 80 fishers catch more lobs than lv 60 fishers? Reduce yew cutting because 75 WC'ers cut more than 60's? HIGH LEVEL PLAYERS ADVANCE FASTER THAN LOW LEVEL PLAYERS. Sorry! If it's because everybody, high AND low levels, get crazy experience, then what's next? Nerf the rift then, because that's probably second-best combat exp. After that, nerf whatever is third best...etc. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A TRAINING OPTION THAT IS "FASTEST" FOR PLAYERS. TRYING TO LIMIT WHATEVER IS FASTEST WILL RESULT IN HITTING A CONSTANTLY MOVING TARGET. Those seem like the two most likely reasons Jagex may give for nerfing PC. If I may, here's my way to "fix" PC: 1) Make it so you can only earn XP for whatever method of combat you use. Whip the portals, earn combat points. Mage or range, earn points in those. Then make it so you can only trade in points towards those skills: Combat points would only be allowed Att, Str, Def, HP, and Pray. Mage points would only be allowed Def, HP, Mage, and Pray. Range points would only be allowed Def, HP, Range, and Pray. If you use more than one form of combat in a round, you get one point in whatever you dealt more damage in. The 50 damage rule still applies (and it is NOT combinable - 40 mage damage and 20 range damage doesn't give you a mage point) 2) Get rid of or reduce the money. I think most of us can live with this. I'm in favor of only reducing money myself (maybe in half) because with other monsters or minigames you get SOME reward (coins, loot, etc.) with your experience, unless you're dead set on killing scorpions for combat training. Other than that, I think it's fine as it is. The big problem I see is the training mage/range without using mage or range, as that's pretty ridiculous IMO. Just my 0.02 ~WeatherMatt
  12. Ha. This question is easy. How will the world end? Take your pick.
  13. Pfft. This is Jacksonville's year. :P IF Byron Leftwich can get used to the new offense and avoid horrid games (points to last year's 21-0 HOME loss to Houston where he was 6-14 for about fourty yards and an INT that killed our playoff hopes :/)
  14. There's some general rambling that I'd like to say at the end of this post, but for now, here's the story! ----- Adrian's Quest - Prelogue ----- It was a calm summer day in the desert town of Al-Kharid. Two normal parents were strolling the town with their 1-year old son Adrian. After enjoying the sunset and seeing Adrian start to drop off, they decide to head home. They return to their two-story house, pretty advanced by Al-Kharid standards, where most buildings were one story. They tuck Adrian in bed, then decide to retire themselves. The parents go to bed without suspecting a thing. Meanwhile, out towards the large open pit mine north of Al-Kharid, many miners see something suspicious. A tall dark woman is seen on the dark horizon to the north. With her are around twenty men, each equally dressed in black. Most of the gang members are wielding torches, while some have swords in hand as well. The miners, seeing this army, hide from sight. The gang seems surprisingly dedicated to marching straight on to Al-Kharid. The gang approaches the northern edge of Al-Kharid. It is completely dark outside now, and no one around is awake. The tall woman in front, seemingly the leader, gives the command. Without delay, the army assails the house with Adrian and his parents inside, as well as a few other houses nearby. Many of the woman's top swordsmen go inside first, clearing out any resistance. They look around, seeing nothing. Suddenly, off to the left, one warrior notices one of the parents moving quietly, trying not to be seen or heard, attempting to escape. Instantly, three attackers converge, catching the woman as she tries to open a window. They decide to kill her, then notice her husband curled up on the floor, trying also to not be seen. The warriors quickly kill him as well. The operation is going just as planned. The parents were rather rich folk, having quite a bit of wealth in gold and gems. The dark army collects anything valuable, then decided to make a quick exit, as the guards of Al-Kharid have been alerted, and could attack at any moment. But they donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t take into account the child. AdrianÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s high-pitched screams alert one of the masked men. The man who notices Adrian is the woman's head thief and one of her leading assistants. He immediately goes to the woman for her council. 'Boss, boss, look upstairs!ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ He begins, stumbling over his words with excitement. ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâThereÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s ... there's a...' 'There's a what? What's up there already?' The woman replies, knowing time is short. 'A child boss! A small child!' This strikes the woman surprisingly. She reaches a quick and very surprising decision. 'Bring it down here. I'll see to it that it gets out of here safely.' The thief brings down Adrian, blankets and all. The woman examines him quickly, then calls for the escape of her men. As the army starts to leave, AdrianÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s house bursts into a fiery inferno. The palace guards finally arrive, but they find no intruders, and many citizens slain, their houses ransacked. The woman leads her troops away in a hurry, going back the way they came, carrying Adrian in her arms.... ----- End Adrian's Quest - Prelogue ----- Hey, look! Forums! (Yeah!) They're back! (Double yeah!) Time to explain myself! (mild grumble) Ok, so I fell off the face of the earth. I had posted about 5 or 6 chapters of this story on the old boards. Then things got a bit dicey. I had been having some technical issues with the boards (not being able to post all the time) along with the ad annoyance. About that time the amount of pointless flaming started getting REALLY bad. It got to the point where I got really pissed off (and of those that know me, you know I am really mild tempered...) completely blew up in the tip.it chat, got permbanned, removed all existance of tip.it from my computer, and left. I sorta moved in to another website at that time, but I never really got used to being there. Plus their forums were down for a week recently, as well. So I found out by word of mouth Tip.it is back. I've decided to return on a trial basis for a little while. Since writing is my real love, and I'm actually decent at it, and there is about one good story in these forums amongst the 100 joke/'you know you've...too long when'/'1-2-3 word stories' posts, I'm coming back for a little while. If this story gets good reception, and if the forums are perhaps better than they were before, then I'll stay. But I might pick up and leave again. Who knows. Since these fourms are brand new, and most Americans with half a brain wouldn't be up at this time of night, I decided to step in and post the first real story, hoping that most people would see this story first and be hooked. Anyways. Some of you will remember Adrian's Quest from the past, while most will not. I've done some work on it in my off time, but the basic plot line is unchanged. Expect (hopefully) a chapter every couple days. It's summer now, so I can actually get decent work done on it. PLEASE post comments/complaints/questions/death thereats/random inconsistent babbling on here, so I can at least see how many people read the story through and have a thought about it. Seeing 6 views on the post and 0 replies does me no good. Thanks a ton! ~WeatherMatt
